On the topic of Yakuza, I dont know if anyone has said Ichiban Kasuga.
I personally don't really connect with the "mysterious and deadly" type like Kiryu (though he is attractive). I prefer the " very fucking dumb with a heart of gold that is trying his best", which is Ichi down to a T. He has this innocent silly puppy energy even though he is a literal Yakuza, and it's just overall a character that I'm always rooting for.
The Like A Dragon entries have been my favorite, so I may be a little bit biased
I loved him even when he was rocking that ugly ass punch perm

shinjiro's arc is one of the most beautifully depressing things i've seen, when pursued you're able to stop him dying in your arms, only to have the epilogue happen. it's like a monkey's paw romance loop. majority of characters in persona 3 are heavily elevated from the epilogue alone, seeing characters in that type of situation is emotionally manipulative but also incredibly sadly beautiful, especially from that perspective. a lot of the characters needed more slice of life building but seeing how they react in THE crisis situation does a lot for player attachment, along with stuff like the letters from friends promising to meet again before they know, the cheering in the background etc.
and then 4 and 5 are exclusively "fuck sadness or bitter ends or any sacrifice, we got friendship, and basic school education bitch"

One of the killers I actually enjoy going against.
