That's not entirely accurate. Something I liked about Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is how the player has an arc in that game. You begin as this very weak young vampire who gets told what to do by everyone but by the end you become so powerful that all of the main characters want you to do the big jobs like killing the villain. You even fight the Sheriff who's implied to be the strongest vampire in the city. Then at the end La Croix attempts to use dominate on you to get the key to the sarcophagus and it doesn't work (which is really interesting since earlier in the game after you blow up the warehouse if you refuse to accept his later tasks he uses dominate on you and forces you to say yes).
