The most entertainment from this whole debacle isn't from the game itself but the fucktards over on the steam discussions page riding Paradox's dick and using strawmans such as Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk for the delays and lack of news.

They're getting their ass dogged because they basically promised that this game would come out. They officially announced that the game was going to come out in March 2020, then they changed it to November 2021. Then all of a sudden, they shelve the game and refuse to say anything else about it because they fired 2 people, someone quits, and then the studio they had working on it slide it down the table to another studio. That's terrible advertisement not to mention it doesn't make them look good. Now they're pretty much saying "It gets here when it gets here" and that could mean anywhere from 5 years, 10 years, 20 more years, to fucking never. Just to put a cherry on top of it, they put out a designer program and act like it's everyone else's fault with the message "here you make the game, lets see you do better." How about No! fuck that! It's their fucking fault. They deserve all the back lash they can get.

They also took preorder money for it.

White Wolf projects are inherently cursed. Pen and paper RPGs already attracts autistic weirdos, but a vampire themed RPG attracts the weirdos in the weirdo community.

Therefore the first Bloodlines game attracted Troika games which was already considered comperatively eccentric, and on top of that White Wolf was apparently watching them like a hawk at all times and being combative about changes to the world for gameplay purposes. Also FIVE fucking writers. In comparison the script for GTA IV was three times the size and had 2 writers. We've also learned that certain Bloodlines writers can be considered a little bit out there to put it mildly.

White Wolf projects tend to attract very imbalanced game studios. By that I mean the sort of game studio where you have two artists for every actual programmer, and a game designer that hasn't written a piece of code since he left school. White Wolf is therefore a perfect fit for paradox, whose main studio has lost all actual talent and had to scrap the economy system for Victoria III because they looked at the previous one the same way W40K machine priests look at tech from the glory days and declare it fucking magic.

Bloodlines 2 seemed cursed from the beginning. And its first trailer honestly looks like a vampire game for twilight fans rather than those who played the first game.

They also took preorder money for it.
I think the moment any studio takes preorder money on a game they promised to release, they lose any and all right to secrecy. They owe their customer base updates and progress reports on when that game is coming out because they were already selling it to people before it was even finished. They need to say something or give people a date rather then sit with their thumbs up their ass.

Yeah but did they even get that money? If I remember right with Steam is they put that money into some sort of holding account until the actual release of the product.

I ironically think that VTMB cant be replicated for several reasons, one of them is cultural environment.

The vampire genre thrived in the early 2000's, especially with the type of culture brought by movies such as The Matrix. There was this dark embrace of the macabre, gothic was the trend. Loud nightclubs became "the place".

So VTMB was able to build its identity around that cultural time period. I ironically say that VTMB is a time capsule without losing its timeless appeal. Sure, you could see it as a window to how culture was at that time but it doesnt go too far to the point where you cant enjoy it unless you've "been there". I think I recall only ONE political joke in the whole thing and it was a rather tame one...its shocking to imagine a time where thats as far as these things got.

There was just this charming young gothic angst adoration of the macabre and cultural taboo that just fit the vampire genre so well.

But now that culture is no more...

Now assuming the original was made today and somehow had the same crew, passion and all other ingredients, would have still been great? Yes...but I feel like some of that cultural aspect of the game's setting would be missing.

The 2000's were essential for VTMB's timeless classic status, ironically enough.

I'm not going to hold my breath on Bloodlines 2. They pretty much canceled this game by shelving it in development hell. It could be a whole 10 years or never. When some games get shelved, they risk never coming out and I suspect this game is one of those games we'll never see. I guess I'll check to see if there's any more updates in a few years or find an article why it never saw the light of day. This game was fucked from the get go.
Even if it does get released I’m assuming its going to be a mess with lots of dropped features which in theory might have been good but you only see a glimpse of it and the plot is probably vampires telling you their non-heterosexual sexuality for no reason, hamfisted Black Lives Matter allegories and the big bad being a Trump-like vampire in charge of the city.
Paradox is unlocking it's Vampire the Masquerade license. Anyone can make a Vampire game now.

It's dead Jim. It's really fucking dead.
I dunno, I’d love to see a VtM 4x game, maybe a small Shadowrun style tactical RPG game.
Has anyone seen any ads or promotion of any sort for the recent 5 VTM games? They seem to be pumping them out and the only way I find out they exist is from occasionally searching up what's happened to B2. Swansong almost looks like what they showed for B2 a couple of years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if they shared assets with Hardsuit Labs then completely cannibalised the rest of the game when HSL got kicked out, would give some more meaning to the name too. It doesn't look bad though, I'll probably pirate it when it comes out.

5 was a guess, apparently there are 8 of them, including the pubg clone coming out in less than a week. How they're handling the IP is just completely bizarre.
Bloodhunt is not bad, particularly for a free to play game, theres lots of fun parkouring about sort of like a Spider-Man game without the webslinging.

There’s some balance issues and playing on consoles is like hard mode since there’s very little aim assist but you can turn off cross play (Consoles only, PC players can’t) and the ranked mode is also a few weeks away.

But in general it’s a pretty novel attempt at a Battle Royale game with civilians giving different types of permanent boosts per game up to 3 when you drink their blood and downing and diablerizing other players let’s you get more boosts so there’s another objective than just finding weapons plus citizens noticing you use your powers or attacking them causes your location to be visible to other players for a while.

a small Shadowrun style tactical RPG game.
Oh god, I can see that being brilliant. Either a custom or balanced coterie based on the big clans of each faction with you being whatever unbalanced munchkin or specialized clan member you want to be. Brujah glass cannon chargers, Toreador endless bursters, and Nosferatu/Malkavian assassins against Gangrel tanks, Lasombra shadow hitters, and Tzimisce with their usual fleshcrafting shenanigans.

I find your ideas interesting and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

i actually almost got hired by screen rantz's gaming side once but let's just say it wasn't a good fit

Getting into the gaming industry is the same as getting into any other industry at this point: you need to know someone or have years of experience in two different development skills and MAYBE you'll be hired. And of course it's all going to shit.

I think you could already see this in what little promotional material there was for Bloodlines 2. It was too clean, the characters too bland and inoffensive, the setting moved away from LA to Seattle. I'm also doubtful Bloodlines 2 would be any good because the industry is currently lacking in creativity and passion. There would be no attempt at improving upon the shortcomings of Bloodlines, simply copying certain aspects and calling it good enough. For example Bloodlines can be a bit boring in that you never move past being errand boy for the different factions. Ideally a sequel would improve upon this aspect and allow you some power and authority in the setting, but likely the developers would simply aim for a main quest similar in style to the original and leave it at that.

We get a full Bloodlines remake.

But it's in the Creation Engine.

its funny cuz vampires ARE canon to Fallout "somewhat"

Fallout 3 had the family which apparently were mutants that had a thirst for blood and were streghtened by it. Apparently they could even share their "gift" too, making blood bags have benefits upon usage. It was quite an interesting concept that fit the Fallout universe.

It almost makes me wonder how a crossover between Vampire The Masquerade and Fallout would go. How would vampire society deal with the post nuclear world?

Can vampires even get affected by radiation? They ARE biologically dead...Would they create a rivalty with ghouls?

Bold of you to assume they could even get close to the quality of the original even if they just copy everything. You can copy the work but you cant copy the talent.
