Umm, I'm undecided on the Steam controller until they reveal if it's trans. I can't make a decision to but a new product until they unveil its complete sexuality lore.
We get it, you hate fun, you don't play games and all you can do is bitch about identity politics.

It doesn't make you cool or unique.

The coomers are already on it unfortunately, and it looks like hot shit.

I much more prefer Valve's little jolly fella. He's cute and perfect as-is.
happeh
Just look at my boy go. How they massacred him. Bastards.

I'm personally fine with the 8GBs of VRAM given that the market for this are going to be people who are a) looking for something that they can hook into their living room TV and/or b) people who want a simple pre-build PC.

Hot take:

I like this Steam Controller fella.

Though now I see him in the controller itself.

The sticks are the eyes. The touchpads are the cheeks. The options button between them is the mouth. The bumpers are the eyebrows.
Same, he's cute AF. He reminds me of the Switch Doggo before the furfags took over.

yeah I believe the whole thing is a nod to the oldschool refreshments animation, I like it. it's not pandering to that pornsick faggotry, they're just too young to get it

LTT Anus Tip Tech tells Valve it will do well if it is $500 console prices. They look at each other with unease. I hate that this faggot broke the story that the Steam Machine is going to be over $600 presumably.

MLID did a back-of-the-hand BOM for it and came out to around $425 to produce.
Steam Machine Specs Analysis_ Valve Might Price XBOX out of Gaming! - 0-13-20.jpeg

Keep in mind that most of the high-price components are actually surplus that AMD is trying to get rid of (the Hawk Point 2 CPU that was supposed to go into a now-cancelled Surface and the 7600M which was supposed to be put into laptops but no one wanted), and Valve is getting firesale prices.

I don't think Valve has decided on a price yet due to RAM and NVME prices which is why Linus' question caught them off-guard, but I think they'll probably err on the side of good sense and price it around $500.

If Valve is selling it like the Steam Deck, then you're going to need to a Steam account to even get the thing in the first place and that's honestly a great reason to just price it at break-even. Even if they have to take a small loss on it initially, the math kinda works out on its own - you buy a Steam Machine, you boot it up and are immediately on Steam. What do you do first? A significant chunk of people are probably going to buy a game and immediately put Valve in the green on that sale.

(I also think the unease could be Valve wanting the final cheapness of the device to be a surprise so they want people to think it'll cost way more than it actually will)

this incident
15 years later and people still take that BSoD seriously.
GLaDOS
Of course, if they saw what the BSoD actually looked like they wouldn't be able to do the same old tired circlejerk of "Microsoft bad". Not to mention how blue screens practically ceased to exist post-Vista.

Genuinely hurts my head people are willingly this stubborn and ignorant. But, if you're truly willing to bet, then I'll gladly accept your money.

If it's 650 USD or more, I just can't see it arriving as anything but a dud. Seems like they wanted to market it as a console (here's a small box with a controller; just plug it in, log into steam and play your games!) with a single sentence that was basically "it's also a PC, btw", then somehow get confused and concerned that everyone sees it as a console and thus wanting a console's price.
