Some more drama such as people understanding the severity of hacking but adding that bricking a users hardware should be illegal. Some people also joke that if you play anything made by Riot Games, you deserve to have your shit bricked.
If anyone is interested in researching the characters behind this, the FEC records are quite useful. Clicking on a record will give you some data, for example, Brian Levine, their head of Government Relations (bribing politicians to allow them to damage actual human beings' computers):

Click on 'OPEN IMAGE' and it will give the person's (generally, home) address:

If someone has given an obviously false address then American citizens can file a complaint with the FEC about fraudulent details.

Because the FEC is incompetent, the generation of the images is consistently broken for the likes of WINRED and ACT Blue, either because there's too much data for the processes to run or they're constantly submitting updates which mean the images never finish generating. That's fine- let's say we're looking into this disgusting MAGA jeet, Jay Kapur, a senior director at Riot:

We get an error:

At this point we can either click through to the campaign, find the right election year (which could be different from the year in which the donation was made, pre dated, post dated, all sorts of shit) and download the CSV (often at least hundreds of megabytes and SLOOOW to download). OR we can use an alternative website that collates these data files like https://checkmydonation.org/. You can't search by name or employer, but if you have a name and a state you can get an address....

and confirm it- while California is more sensible about whether you should be able to see who owns a property just by typing the address in than every single other US state, you can just Google +redfin and see that Kapur's 2020 residence, 20444 Via Cellini, Porter Ranch, CA 91326, was last sold in 2017, so he almost certainly still lives there:

So if I understand correctly, cheaters paid $6000 for cheating devices, and the anticheat caught them, and this proves anticheat is bad.
Trump is doing his best to bring on the American Century of Humiliation but the exchange rate for EUR:USD is not 1:10 lol.

I don't anticipate ever making the kind of money that paying $6000 to grief kids in Valorant/Fortnite etc would seem worth it. But $600? Yeah, wouldn't do it right now, but there's people paying well more than that for a bottle of Pappy right now.

the technological dystopia where paypal can fry your neural implants killing you for trying to buy too chud coded of a book is brought on not with speeches by scary men bearing over podiums or at the end of a gun but by overpaid quirk chungus posting millennials soying out on twitter.

It's more about the implication. Riot shows that they can detect hardware and then makes smug replies about bricking your PC. So then you obviously have to ask questions.
Like is this automatic, is there someone who signs off on it? What's stopping a rogue employee from just bricking the hardware of people they don't like who just so happen to be playing the game?
But Riot just kinda answers these concerns with "erm that just happened sorry I raped your PC cheaters"

TL;DR Cheaters are niggercattle and kinda deserve to have their shit broken, but I do not trust Riot games with the power to break anyone's shit at will.

People cheering on this are literal cattle.
This isn't about whenever or not you think cheaters "deserve it" or whatever but whenever a company should even have the ability to do this in the first place.
And you have to have negative IQ to trust Riot games of all companies with this kind of power

Nigger what did you think "kernel-level anticheat" meant

People surprised by this haven't been paying attention and have been lapping down their goylent like the good little consoomers they are. By installing a device driver, you are giving the person writing that driver total control over your system. This has been true since the dawn of time in computing.

Somewhat tangential to the current topic of conversation, but this is something I deal with somewhat in my professional life, and I dunno how widely understood it is these days. But at this point it should be understood that any online game is recording everything you say and everything you type to train their content monitoring systems. The Riots and Robloxes of the world may use proprietary models while smaller publishers and developers use systems from third party vendors, but everyone is doing it.

Triggering reset faults in devices that try to directly access memory in your software is good. The more I read about this device, the more it sounds like an AIDS-infected needle. It's really not Riot's fault that causing this particular device to reset corrupts its firmware; this is down to it being some shitty Chinesium cheat-tech that isn't fault tolerant at all.

Please read the rest of the post.
It's not about the fact that they can do it, It's about the questions that them being able to do it, create.

The Device isn't my issue. Fuck the device. I'd just rather not have random parts of my PC bricked, at seeming will, by a smug tech tranny.

Then stop running Windows. Windows has been bricking knockoff chinesium parts for operating out of spec for years.

This isn't about whatever linux fork you jerk off on. The topic is "riot games is fucking gay"
No, the issue is that Windows will blacklist any device that doesn't play by its rules. All Riot is doing is snitching to Windows about a device that's pretending to be an NVME SSD not operating like an NVME SSD should and Windows blacklisting it.

Well this is why cheering on this is fun, as long as you're not a twitter faggot doing it to suck up to his corporate overlords. Best case scenario is cheaters obscenely expensive hardware gets broken and Riot takes a massive money-losing PR hit and maybe lawsuits. Not sure if it's going to fully live up to that expectation but so far it feels pretty cheer-worthy.

I would blow my brains out before I'd pay $6000 to cheat in a fucking video game.
You're not thinking third world enough (good). A lot of times this shit is just an investment, farm up a couple of accounts with a high ranking and sell them. You think it's pathetic paying $6k for cheating rigs? How about being the kind of gremlin who pays $500+ for an account with some cosmetics and a good ranking purely for eclout from, I don't know, a third layer of gremlin even deeper and more depraved than the first two. Who's more pathetic? The cheaters, the hardly sentient slime that creates this sort of buyable boosted account incentive, or the biohazard levels of dysfunctional dirt who is impressed enough by these things to give the slime the drive to pay up?

The Internet, and especially gaming, has just become a global slum full of horrors beyond what could possibly have been imagined...

You need to go back and re-read more carefully. Nothing has been bricked. Their bold jeers about 'paperweights' was a reference to the fact the DMA devices are now useless as far as cheating in Valorant goes. That's it.

I won't even change my PC settings to SecureBoot because that's shit I shouldn't have to do. I've been so sick of game companies thinking they can just demand I make bios level changes to my machine, install kernal anti-cheat, all this shit has just been getting far too invasive.

If you still play anything associated with Riot, you deserve to have your shit get fucked up especially if your a cheater. But I won't be praising Riot for smugly owning cheaters, bunch of fun sucking cocksuckers.

I also saw this, I don't know if this is true? They're claiming the ring-zero anticheat also forces you to reformat.

When we open that 'influential person' board we absolutely need a thread on that anti-cheat guy.

p.s. I found this thread while looking for this.
Oh, so it's the fighting game adage of "talk shit, get hit bricked". Say meanie words and get your setup cooked. At least those are the dots I connected.

I mean it isn't a NVME ssd, it's a GAY NEGRO WALL HACK DEVICE only the most degenerate of players use. Good on windows for taking out the trash
