No, it's more like if I have a gun range that bans FMJ ammunition, and I have some kind of downrange FMJ detector, and when it detects you using FMJ ammo, it shuts down your station, and you are escorted off the premises. .

And you own the gun range. You are escorted off your own property.

And then they set your property on fire.

And there's no guarantee you were actually using the wrong ammo

Now Riot today is bricking people's computers
No they aren't. They're making a cheat device unusable for cheating. This is anticheat functioning as intended.

And you own the gun range. You are escorted off your own property.
Valorant players don't own the Valorant servers. Bringing a cheat device violates the T&Cs.

And then they set your property on fire.
Except the cheat device isn't actually destroyed! It just fails to bypass the anticheat, making it worthless.

And there's no guarantee you were actually using the wrong ammo
Signed firmware actually does guarantee you're using a legitimate device.

They didn't brick their own servers, they bricked your computer.

You had a FMJ detector rammed up your ass and then you were escorted of your own property and you like it. That's the analogy.

You need to do an OS install "It's only a small fire, the range is still there I just need to rip out the interior and replace everything" the company is entirely in the wrong just stop.

Cool can't wait for them to update it so also bricks your system when you say mean words in game. Followed by the update that bricks devices that have hate speech on any file on your pc.

I can't believe this bridge bricked my truck. Someone should start a class action lawsuit against this bridge. Who could have known this bridge was gonna brick my truck. Bridge designers should never have the power to brick my truck. etc etc.
I know this is bait but, honestly this kind of a shit argument, the bridge wasn't built with the intention of bricking the truck. The anti-cheat software was built with the intention of bricking your pc.

Riot Games ended up posting this tweet saying "congrats to the owners of a brand new $6k paperweight" which caused quite a stir on Twitter because it implies that Riot Games is actively bricking users hardware:
At this point, just have a rule where you can only play the game if Riot Games can send armed TSA agents to your house to inspect your PC's hardware.

Nobody's PC got bricked.
I don't like gaming companies fucking with my hardware. I didn't even know cheating programs came in physical hardware before I read this thread. As funny as it seeing cheaters get what they disserve it's still a company fucking with hardware, and I don't like that president or the slippery slope that it will cause. Next they will come after you for violating their TOS via saying anything remotely offensive.

This jive nigga was ragebaiting all over the place a few years back when Windows 11 came out, claiming there was nothing wrong with it. He's just taking the pro-Red Star OS position to piss people off.

Then stop using Windows, because Windows has a variety of security features designed to prevent suspicious devices from doing things they shouldn't. In this case, Windows stopped allowing an unauthorized device trying to spoof itself as a different device in order to inject code directly into memory. This is a good thing. This is something Windows should do. Allowing things to pretend they are benign devices and then inject unauthorized code into running programs is extremely bad for obvious reasons.

Here's what happened:

Cheat device: Hi, I'm a humble NVMe drive. Let me touch your no-no place
Anticheat: Windows, this thing is acting sus, it's touching me in no-no places
Windows: Lemme check
Windows checks
Windows: Wait this isn't an NVMe drive, and it's touching no-no places. IOMMU, That's not allowed.
IOMMU: YOU CAN'T TALK TO HER ANY MORE.
Cheat Device: 😭😭😭😭😭

Also, sorry but another fun fact about DRM: when we first encountered DRM we had to LEAVE THE AUDIO FILES ON THE CD, SO THAT THE DRM CHECK DIDNT CAUSE STUTTERS. Half-Life and command and conquer sold soo well bc they were games of the era that didnt just rape your hardware bc some fucking publisher wasnt hitting their quarterly profit margins.

Dude calm down youre the reason devs use floating point integers so we cant add fucking currency to some slog of a game with cheat engine. fuck all the way off with your noise.

I find the whole situation absurd. Apparently cheating is so rampant, and profit margins are so fucking tight in Valorant, that this is considered an appropriate escalation, a low level hardware/firmware attack to get niggers to fuck off. I'm just saying, there has to be a better use of people's time than cheating in fucking Valorant. Like go outside. Play a decent game that doesn't rape you.

The problem here is that we all know that slopes tend to be slippery.

No, they didn't.

Windows recognized an unauthorized device and stopped allowing that device IO access. Everyone's computer continued working perfectly well. Their $6000 PCIe cheat device stopped being useable.

As already mentioned, you need to do a full os reinstall to undo the damage they did to your computer.

As per your own analogy, they are ramming an FMJ detector up your ass, they are escorting you off your own property and they are setting it on fire.

The reason you cannot accept any of the above is you have to reword it to make it sound less obviously abusive because that's the only way you maintain the notion this is reasonable. It's not.

The company is in the wrong.

A simple test:

"Your videogame should not break parts of your computer. It is wrong and it is unreasonable."

If you can't agree to that statement then some underlying assumption you are running off is badly misaligned. "But the reason for" no, " but but the cheati-" no. "Buh buh they maintain their own serv" no. " But the damage is limi" also no. "It doesn't apply to me-" no.

People will support the worst conduct of the worst company in the world because they can just rename whatever they're actually doing in their head to sound reasonable to them.

A videogame should not break parts of your computer. It's fucked up. Don't defend that shit, you literally make yourself into a patzy. Have some shame.

Here's what happened:
If only it were that simple. It bricked the device, and sounds like it even bricked connected pc too. That's RADICALLY different than just denying access. Also what's with this gay shifting blame to Windows??? Its a direct result of riot games software.

Even if you want to support bricking cheat hardware, this is a nasty precedent because of the potential of false positives. Lets not forget that false positives exist all the time, from obscure new hardware, software to screen record, ect ect. Its not new that someone COMPLETELY INNOCENT gets banned because of this, and now you are saying its fine if their computer gets bricked??? This is a horrifying precedent. At least bans can be reverted, bricked hardware is another league.

This is kinda like if you took a policy of shooting cell phones of would be perverts out their hand with shotguns, and if you raised concerns about anything ELSE hit by the buckshot, or possibly maiming guys who WEREN'T being voyerss, you handwave it. You don't have to support voyeurism to think that's a bad idea.

Can't we hate both riot and the fags using hardware level cheats?

This feels like two different specicies of vermin fighting.

I'm gonna play the devils advocate, and say lol, you get what you deserve, like on one hand yeah, I can absolutely see how fucked this is and what it could be used for, but seeing cheaters get 1% of the annoyance they inflict on players is funny and I refuse to feel bad for them.
