This isn't true, you can separate item servers from always online play. Valve has been doing just that for 20 years now. You can have private tf2, cs2, portal 2 and dota servers hosted on your hardware and the item servers cost almost nothing.

Fuck cheaters, even though they are doing the players a favor by reminding them they should be doing something better with their life. Shame that even kernel-level anti cheat isn't enough to stop it though. There aren't any games good enough to have it installed so I don't, but if I cared enough to play a game competitively I would do it on a PC without anything important on it.

No, it's more like if I have a gun range that bans FMJ ammunition, and I have some kind of downrange FMJ detector, and when it detects you using FMJ ammo, it shuts down your station, and you are escorted off the premises. You spend lots and lots of money on special FMJ ammo you think will beat my detector, but it doesn't, and you get shut the fuck down and we escort you out. Now you cry that your expensive ammo is useless because the only reason you bought it was to circumvent the rules at my range. I laugh about how you wasted your money on overpriced ammo that got cockblocked, and everyone calls me a bad guy because hey, you paid a lot of money to try and get past my security.
