I picked this up at a friend's recommendation, and while it can be unforgiving if you poke your nose in the wrong place, it's... oddly kind in other ways.
Its also kind enough to not continually drain your resources for repairs, so long as you have the stations built up you can do a full repair on everything for nothing more than a click. I really hope that is not changed, it helps reduce constant supply drain.

Server when? We could use the valheim+ mod (its available on github if you hate the mod nexus)
nexus has a 12-length password, according to the guys in there it's because "its the trend" in some systems.

totally ignoring the standard 2FA and 1 upper case, 1 special char and 1 number 6-length type of password... quoting myself because i used a password generator: whoever came up with that requirement is a fucking idiot.

anyways, i got me some mods to curb the gaeness and found out a couple of things after starting a playthru with only the armor and cape combo:
1 - i shoulda have ate dinner 5 hours ago
2 - i shoulda have drank water 4:30 hours ago
3 - i shoulda have slept 4 hours ago

with mods curbing the annoying things of the game it becomes highly addictive, i'll share the modlist later.

No, thank you. I've already wasted three digit hours on this stupid game, if it becomes any more addictive I'm going to lose my fucking job.

I think I'll definitely use that bigger discovery radius mod, since I spend a lot of time filling out the map. It will probably save quite a few hours of my life.

Valheim+ does several of these things already. I'd say valheim+ and berry planting would be the definitive kiwi edition

try Map Fog Of War Explore Radius, you can customize the size with a config file unlike the previous one where it has set values.

more precise configurations, valheim+ is meant mostly for servers while i picked more customization mods due to singleplayer/coop focus.

bit of a sperg but check this autism: Repair Requires Materials, Starvation one of valheim's stronk points is not using that retarded mechanics and these morons do this shit. unfuckingbeliveable. one can say it's mod and thus its optional but it still does not excuse the fucking autism of these morons, if i wanted such retardedness i could play a good chunk of survival games to get this kind of crap, not having them is what makes valheim somewhat fun, the shitty enemy spawn where you'll face 7 trolls in a night or 20 gaydwarfs is something i found no mod to curb it, yet

This game is a fucking grind but like Rust I'm embracing it. At least trolls won't offline raid me when I'm sleeping IRL.

Played for like 5 hours last night and I managed to smelt about 50 copper, 20 tin, sail to where I thought the Elder was (ended up blocked by the mountain biome, the fuck bruh), build a periphery base and portal there, sail some more rather pointlessly including in other huge storm that I thought was gonna break the boat apart, and then finally spent the last hour or so building out my moat more and more. It's like 10-12 tiles down now all away around and 3-4 tiles wide. I really want to kill the fucking Elder so I can start getting harder raids. I want it.

stock up on at least 4 finewood bows and go with either bronze or flinthead arrows. more than 400 and you'll be able to kite him around his pillars since they'll block his vine attacks, do it on daytime right after being awake so night won't cripple your stamina.

try picking up 2 star boars to use against him, have two to breed and pick the rest.

Bit the bullet and got the game. Any early tips?
Don't get too hung up on building a big shelter or a safe spot until you've dealt with your first boss. Building or making a lot of racket at night will draw in enemies, in the meadows they're usually not too strong. Fires scare them enough they'll not want to get near.

Addendum: if you really want some easy shelter, there are usually abandoned buildings close to the spawn point you can patch up and claim for yourself.

Use the wiki if you feel like you're stuck. Some recipes don't unlock unless you've found or crafted certain things.

Food is life. There's no food degradation mechanic in this game, so stockpile like you're a prepper. Each food item affects your max stamina, max HP, and HP/stamina regen rates. Before you take on a tough fight (a boss battle or clearing out a burial chamber), make sure you've eaten a full meal of three items. With that, unless your skills and gear are complete ass you can tank hits from two-star enemies and keep right on beating them in the face.

Speaking of which, yes, there is a variance of weapon damage in the game. Skeletons are weaker vs blunt attacks, for example.

Which brings me to the early-game best weapon: Stagbreaker. Holy fuck I am surprised this hasn't been nerfed, because it is hilarious. It has a slow windup, but the strike creates an AOE effect that knocks back pretty much any normal enemy and may stagger them. I went from hating greydwarf kill teams to laughing at them because even a half dozen dorfs + a shaman or brute have trouble when your ground-pound sends them flying like tenpins.

The big difficulty in crafting it is getting core wood. The good news is that you get that from pine trees, and those can be cut with a stone axe. Bad news? Gotta run to the Black Forest biome to get it. Try not to get stepped on by a troll.

if you can make a bronze axe then you can cut oaks which drops fine and core wood along with normal wood too, birch also drops fine wood but at very small amounts.

and never forget to always put roof on stuff, if it rains structures without roof will be damaged, the crafteng stations also dun work without a roof too.

God damnit I had to come to shore during a storm and I had a bunch of shit in the boat and I went AFK inside a shelter and I kept hearing cracking sounds as I made a sandwich. Turns out that was my boat getting torn to shreds and all my loot sinking to the bottom of the sea. RIP.

On a happier note I have sat bases with portals all over now. It's a little tedious, but this game REALLY wants you to put the time in to make little shelters and portals at various places. Having one "home base" is good, but make smaller ones at your mining outposts and other points of interest.

Made a tiny little cuck shed to sleep and store my crap in. Finding boars for the bow is remarkably annoying.
Edit: Made a beehive too. What can you do with that without fermenters?

you mean honey? besides eating you'll use it on the fermenter for buff-giving things, including the reduce poison soup that you will need for once you get to swamp biome.

once you die you can keep dying in multiple places no problem, just mark your death locations because corpse run buff can have it's duration refreshed once you pick another tomb and that buff is basically this:

managed to kill alot of draugs and leeches with one buff and no armor

Start stockpiling food ASAP is something I recommend. It will seem like you have endless food but then you have to start making the meads and shit and it goes fast. Right now I have to spend like 30 minutes just hunting blueberries and raspberries every few in game days. Collect every queen bee you see and then make hives at your base for honey supply. They also will fuck with mobs that try and attack you as a side benefit.

Once you get a bow get fire arrows go to the forest (not at night) and try and kill a couple trolls. Troll armor will serve you well for a long time. Don't bother with a raft, wait until you can make the 2nd tier boat after you get access to bronze. The first boss is pretty easy to kill just make sure you bring enough arrows and food and try and be rested . When you're mining throw down a fire and maybe even a little shelter for the bonuses. Be careful especially at first because trolls and gaydwarfs will swarm you.

I finally killed the Elder last night. It was an epic journey on my boat to setup the portals and then the sat base and it took like 100 fucking arrows or some shit but he went down. Also, the stamina mead is fucking awesome. I know I'm supposed to be farming carrots or some shit at this point as well. Gotta figure out the food system a bit more.
