In the past that meant a couple of percentage points and only applied to the really big guys meaning more power and money to EA, Activision and Ubisoft. Then Valve changed their revenue split exactly one week before EGS launched, very strange. Valve's changes applied to everyone and the split goes down to 20% after $50 million in revenue, 25% between 10-50 million and the regular 30% up to 10 million, I assume it is progressive so my $60 million number was wrong but it was meant as antagonistic hyperbole.

Even if you don't use EGS at all or just use to pick up free games you well never play, its existence is making Steam better for developers. Even if it goes away it will be hard for Valve to roll back these changes without a large upheaval. That's one of the reasons I think it's good, I don't use it because launchers suck but it is good that it exists.
that cut always existed, they just made it official and set to hard numbers, not based on size or ability to negotiate backroom deals. apparently you could get it even without being one of the big guys, according to some claims back then.

embracer in theory is big enough to get their own deal, unless that policy is a replacement for that in general.
as for devs, most of them work on wage + bonus, any profit share hardly affects them unless they run their own small indie studio, and most of those will never hit those numbers. even valheim is still 2 million short.

anyways, if I catched it right during the gamescom opening they announced hearth & home for september 16th.

Gotta hand it to backroom deals, bonuses and the associated NDAs, it means one knows what anyone else is getting so everyone thinks they're getting a sweet deal. It's shady. IDK though, I think it was Ubisoft that could negotiate it down to ~25% across the board and they have the lawyers to hash out such an agreement and the cost of doing so is a drop in the bucket of the overall revenue from a single game.

Doesn't matter, EGS existing forced Valve to change or, if your story is correct, finally commit to something publicly so they can't disadvantage some and favor others.

Started playing the game recently again, had a lot of fun, but damn, there are just a couple of things that force you to cheese it. Like with how much of a chore it is to repair broken buildings, you simply must create trenches all over the place and put every building on a giant pillar of raised ground.

They changed a few things about recipes (like boar jerky), added some stuff and you have a few new pieces to build with.

The repair tool working in an area would be nice.

How do you like the new combat mechanics in Hearth & Home? My gaming computer is currently out of action so I couldn't test it yet.

I have mainly just beat up Greydwarves as I was trying to build a nice island fort and didn't feel any difference to the old system tbh. Supposedly, the bow takes less stamina to shoot, other weapons do more damage (I hit a Greydwarf with my axe and it seemed to be more effective than in the past). Greydwarf Brutes seem to be slightly larger than before and some effects like fogs have been reworked, which makes for a great atmosphere especially at night, when you can see glowing eyes all around you.

I kinda wish the game allowed you to hire NPC thralls that you could arm with bows and arrows so they automatically fight off enemies at your fortress... or at least supply NPCs with tools so they automatically repair damage to your buildings every now and then. Maintaining a base is kind of a bitch.
Would also be nice to just drop off food items with an NPC that automatically fries meat, makes soup from the ingredients or who makes mead. It might be fun to add a basic leveling system, so an NPC that makes mead slowly becomes more skilled at it and gets it done quicker (or with less resources). Stuff like that would also make your castles, forts and longhouses look more alive and give the player a reason to expand living quarters and so on.

Be that as it may:

I am currenlty building a base on an island closer to the Elder, but when a troll spawned on this tiny tiny island, he knocked over half my buildings, shit sucks. I'll have to rethink my layout and cheese the AI so it can't attack me as easily, but since the island has a bit of overlap with a swamp biome, I get bloodbags, entrails and ungodly amounts of stone, wood, resin and greydwarf eyes from a neverending thunderdome of leeches, draugr and various greydwarves beating each other up on my shores. That's pretty disco, but I'm fucked when a troll spawns. Dude can't touch me, but my buildings get destroyed and it takes forever to rebuilt - which begs the question: Why even bother building something cool? I guess I'll have to put moats and trenches all over the island.

My biggest gripe is still the stamina system, since all it does is annoy me and waste my time. I just *love* being completely and 100% gimped when my stamina bar is low, so I can't do jack fucking shit to escape or fight back. It's even annoying outside of life-or-death situations, since I'm constantly getting winded in every little action I take, be that mowing my lawn or trying to repair shit and then being forced to wait every couple seconds for the bar to fill back up. I am seriously contemplating to look for a mod that just removes stamina from the game altogether.

I mean, that's pretty much just Conan: Exiles, only replace "hire" with "knock the fuck out".

knock the fuck out and wait hours for them to break.
unless the server settings reduce that shit, oh and boobies and sausages.
AT LEAST these fuckers managed to get the house update out and didn't bail out like any indienigger, here's hope the next updates follow suit although it was kind of annoying how much sweet ass time they took, feels like they took time to code for a while after doing blow and fucking hookers in a yatch with the horse they paid.

Don't know if I should make a new thread about this but, whatever.

I got a lot of good hours out of the game so far, two whole playthroughs with a fuckton of base building with friends and a bunch of modded sillyness.

It's very fair to say I got my money's worth out of the game but I still feel the need to bring up the elephant in the room.
Ever since the game has released In February 2021 there have been no major updates, the road-map posted close to release date has not been followed up in any way.

The game has sold incredibly well, far exceeding developer expectations but this somehow slowed down the development process?
I'm no game developer and I am aware that plans can and will change, but to go from 4 promised updates a year to half an update in one and a half years is completely abysmal.

Roadmap.PNG

To put it into perspective, the game released with 4 mostly finished biomes, 4 bosses and a good amount of weapons with about 3-5 Mobs per Biome. It's a good amount of content and I would certainly argue you already get your money's worth from the game now.

What I cannot tolerate however is the absolutely shit community of stans and the moderators censoring any and all criticism.
Go to the game's discussion and you'll find threads that criticize the game or questioning development speed to be locked.

Usually followed by a copypaste moderator post that asks people to be constructive, dismissing any points of actual criticism offered by the OP.

I could bring up several of these kinds of posts but if you look at the time this was posted as of me writing this post you can probably tell it is a very prevelant issue a lot of people have.
And these kinds of posts and moderator censorship has been going on since the game's release.

Recently they have even come to disable comments on the update and hotfix posts, urging people to join their discord for discussion instead
:)
Disabled comments.PNG

Not to mention the horrible stans that use every opportunity to suck the developer off and dismiss any criticism made by users as trolling and being ungratefull, with such comments as "It's done when its done impatient bitch" and "Oh another one of these again...reported"

You are not allowed to question the development process, you are not allowed to point out that the developers so far only has from my memory so don't quote me on this added

A few weapons, one of which being a long awaited fist weapon
One armor set
Four new mobs with one of them being a simple reskin
A new cave to explore
A few building pieces and one or two resources
A bunch of new recipes and revamped food system
The usual bug and performance fixes (Even though it is surprisingly enough not a buggy game)

It is complete tyranny and full on censorship. I urge anyone interested to visit the the game's discussion page and just have a look themselves.

Does anyone else care or had similar experience or am I just autistically sperging about this shit?

edit: added spoilers and fixed the roadmap picture and adding shit I forgot.

Pretty telling that this is the most worthwhile thing to talk about regarding the game in like a year. I've been following the development of a couple of titles that receive far more criticism and have made less money, yet those devs still tough it out and leave everyone's posts up uncensored and continue working on their projects. These guys, on the other hand, seem like they just wanted to make a standard early access scam but had to change plans after their unexpected success. Now they and the autistic fans are trying to prop the game up as some beloved next gen Minecraft without the devs actually putting in any effort.

This is the most infuriating part to me.
I get that people can like the game, hell I like it, but what has to possess you to huff the farts of a developer who has put out nothing of value since release?

You see countless different accounts lurk in every thread, insulting anyone who has complaints while they're conveniently not censored or banned for being insulting.

Of course there is nothing new to talk about considering the game has become more or less abandonware.

Recently re-started playing it with some friends, was checking what server options were out there.

Honestly, I am not surprised by the lack of updates. The vast majority of places seem like they're still half-assing things since COVID, but I wouldn't expect coding to be affected.

The censorship stuff I was only now looking at. I honestly don't spend much time looking at other ppl discussing the game; if I have time I just play. Can't imagine the devs have much interest in pushing updates out they can't monetize since they cashed in upfront.

So few people track this game now that nobody here noticed that public test for the new update came out two weeks ago. Pros are that it finally adds content to the Mistlands, which previously had nothing in it at all, and adds new building parts to play around with. Cons are that it does nothing to improve the game whatsoever.

It's frustrating that the devs won't use all that streamer-influenced money they got several years ago to speed up progress with their game. Compared to other survival/crafting games like Age of Conan, ARK, Grounded, and even V Rising, Valheim is the most solo friendly game and it has by far the best building system compared to these other games. This could be an instant classic if the devs would get off their asses and finish it.

No, your review is exactly spot on.

I should add something, though. Steam has annual awards ceremony where users can vote and Valheim even won something last year I think. This year, the developers asked the community to vote for them in the "Labor of Love" category and got brutally shot down in the comments with "Finish the game first, you hacks" and "One update a year does not count as labor of love" type of replies. Watching them get ripped apart was hilarious.

You can see it here.

Yes I saw, I too left a comment of similar nature.
This has brought me a lot of joy.

And as per usual the community is held accountable for "excessive vitriol" and always told that they're overreacting.
One would think that there has to be a reason for such a response.
You do not get 800 comments where more than half of which are exactly what you mentioned, tearing the game and devs to shreds, by being transparant and diligent.

This reminds me of No Man's Sky only that I do not see any sort of heel turn from Iron Gate.

Bringing this thread back from the dead to say that I love the game, me and my buddies have been playing for a while and been having so much fun, specially because we pretty much told the devs to shove their normal game progression up their asses. Normally you are suppose to go: Meadows > Black Forest > Swamp > Mountains > Plains > Mistlands, but because the swamp was kicking out butts with the constant grinding, rain and poison we said fuck it and decided to make a boat and go the plains for a change of pace, after almost 4 days in-game dying to goblins, mosquitos and loxes we took a fuling camp and set base there, started farming black metal along with barley and flex to make better foods and armament.

There's a big sense of accomplishment in ignoring the game's rules and beating up an area that you are not supposed to be in yet. Since is also alongside a black forest, a swamp and a mountain the location is just *chef kiss* perfect, the plains are also pretty comfy and nothing beats the fun that you have with your friends while colonizing the little green niggers, we are now more than ready to steamroll the 2 past areas.

The devs appear to have learnt the lesson after Mistlands and now want to be more open about the updates and now instead of one big one they are looking to introduce little ones while also working on the next area. That said this game is not for everyone I would say that it's not very beginner friendly and there's going to be a point where you will have to look stuff up in the internet if you don't want to waste time and (more importantly) resources experimenting.

I also have some stuff to complain about:
  • Lay down on the grinding autism, you will think that with 5-6 people on the same server you will be able to upgrade pretty fast but it's the contrary now you waste resources more faster which means more grinding.
  • Make a way to expand you personal inventory, since once you get things like the head lantern and the belt that lets you carry more weight you start losing a lot of space when added with your armor, tools, weapons, etc.
  • Don't make taming such a pain in the ass, I sure like when my 95% tame boar gets scared and resets the progress back to zero.
  • Speaking of taming, it would be cool if you could let us make a backpack for loxes to carry more stuff around, is not like you can take them that far enough anyways.
  • More potions, what we have is ok but I would like to see things like a speed potion or night vision one.
  • Buff some of the bosses powers. Eikthyr is ok, nobody uses Elder, Bonemass is pretty much the only you want, Moder is pretty situational, Yagluth is useless at the point you get it and the Queen is ok I guess?
  • Change dungeon generation it's a fucking crime to enter a crypt and only get ONE surling core or just 7 scrap iron from it, there should be a minimum limit if how much of a certain resource you can get but it shouldn't be fucking ONE.
  • And now the poster child of all Valheim complains: LET US CARRY METAL THROUGH PORTALS FAGGOTS or at least give us a new type of upgrade portal that can do it. If you still want people to embark in a long ship journey as part of an "adventure" (like the first 500 times wasn't enough) PUT A BOAT THAT RUNS OF STEAM SO WE CAN GO FASTER AND WITH CANNONS SO TO NOT MAKE FIGHTING SEA SERPERNTS WHILE SAILING THE SAME BORING SHIT.

As a end to my post I want to say that I love this little fucker:

Such a cool design.

Worth playing alone?
I'm interested in getting a survival game, but only one of a a couple. The ones I was considering, more, were This Land is Mine (shit but niche), Subnautica, and this. I'm trying to avoid getting more than one thing per genre (so like, for example, I got Prey, so I won't get Alien: Isolation; I got Hunt: Showdown, so I won't get Resident Evil 7: Biohazard).

Weird comparison between Hunt and RE7, as they are entirely different genres. But as for this game, it is fun, but I think after the 1st boss fight you will need a friend to help ya explore the other islands and fight harder enemies/bosses.

I had a hunt of an Assassin (flying bug monster) in a very musty plantation house and thought “yeah this is Resident Evil.”
