One thing you guys talking about gamer girls need to understand is that this their existence is completely inevitable. Women are the primary money spenders of the family. Everything, even men's products, are marketed towards women primarily. For example, Funko Pops aren't popular because the average nerd likes them, they're popular because your sister thinks "Wow this is some nerd shit just like my brother" and buys it for you. It only makes sense that eventually some girls started latching onto this consumerist-level nerdiness.

So many people today are too quick to put everyone in cliques. They always want to know if you're a jock, or a prep, or a goth. Me? I don't fit into any of those groups. So what am I? Well, I'm a Nonstop anime watching, Epic loot hunting, Rick and Morty loving, DC and Marvel fanatic. So what does that make me? Well, you tell me ;D
Sounds like you're a fucking nerd, dude

It's true. Every Christmas when I'm throwing away the shit people got me there's always at least one Funko Pop going into the trash and it's always a woman who bought it.

I fucking love Star Wars.

this forum really needs new lolcows because fuck some of these threads have become embarrassing

i guess part of the problem with being a site revolving around mocking cringe is that the cringe can follow you

seriously though the kicking and screaming about normies appropriating ""geek culture"" is fucking embarrassing

There's no such thing as appropriation. It's that people who barge into other people's subcultures and tell them they're doing their own shit wrong and need to accommodate invaders are assholes.

Comic writer Dirk Manning posted this to his Facebook, calling out the trend of fake nerd girls.

Of course, the news wrote backlash against this, claiming that the term was made solely to attack women.

https://www.newstatesman.com/culture/2012/11/fake-nerd-girls-whores-and-sexism

"I’m sure it seems harmless and “fun” on the surface, but memes like this are indicative of a much larger and much more problematic attitude within geek culture. Namely: if we don't like how (specifically) a woman/girl identifies as a nerd, or displays their nerdery, based on rather arbitrary & subjective definitions of what being a “real nerd” is, we can label them a whore/slut/fake. Which, by proxy, indicates that they are not only not a nerd, but are also something of a social/cultural pariah. The word “whore” is pretty specific and, especially in this context, is clearly not meant to be anything other than demeaning and dehumanizing. That you don’t think “all” women are whores is really not the issue. The underlying sexism of the "fake" nerd/geek girl rhetoric is"

They fail to realize that a culture is not made up solely of the media or symbols it consumes, but also of the customs and values they uphold, no matter how self-destructive, exclusive, or unproductive they are.

unsurprisingly the progressive millenial nerd chic population and pitstained fedora tipping grognards manage to be an equal and opposite force of embarrassment

the union of media fandom and politics was a mistake

I know people like to blame this on The Big Bang Theory, but what about Weird Al's "White & Nerdy", which came out a year before BBT and was pretty popular at the time.

Wait you think this thread must be part of one side if this thread is about pointing out the hilarity of another? I thought this place already had a Fedora tipping neckbeard atheist thread.
