Oh boy. The "I'm into Harry Potter/Sherlock/GoT/Dr. Who/popular show and I'm suchhhhhhh a nerrrdddd" crowd.

I guess the qualities constitute a nerd are arbitrary, but imo, popular shit doesn't count.

Funny though. It used to be thrown as an insult not too long ago and just a few years later it's what the mainstream crowd aspires to be.

I miss the days when nerds were considered total losers who got the shit kicked out of on a regular basis..*sigh*

I dunno, you tell someone you know stupid lore shit about D&D, like the names of each of the Nine Hells, or naming Warhammer units or something. That's not cool nerdy, that's still loser nerdy.

There’s a boobie streamer named “Amouranth” who does squats with lightsaber toys and the tips just roll in.
She does the most blatat nerd pandering there is.

Oh I think I saw her on this

It's really funny how being nerdy is basically now a fashion trend when most of these people would have nothing to do with things like that (or otherwise would never admit to it) a decade ago.

My personal worst kind of nerd is the one who pretends they actually like The Legend of Zelda. They probably only got around the first area of Ocarina of Time when they were a child, but nonstop make Water Temple jokes.

I agree with what a previous poster said about this whole mess starting in 2007. :powerlevel: I was a terminally uncool kid growing up and I got bullied a lot, I started college in 2007 and all of a sudden the table turned and I was cool and desireable. :powerlevel:

I think that's a big part of why SJWs are such a problem. I genuinely believe that being bullied built character, gave me a thick skin, and taught me a lot about how people operate alone or in groups. You put ten people in a room and systems naturally energe. Learning how those systems work is the key to success in life. As you get older you learn how to deal with all the types of people you met in school and work with them effectively in the corporate world.

The younger folks who make up the extreme left were never really bullied for being into weird dumb shit, but they heard stories about it happening before, so they grew a massive persecution complex. Back in high school I had no choice but to hang out with the gay kids and listen to them sperg about autistic nerdy bullcrap because, hey, we were cool to each other and at least they didn't shove me into lockers. Now those same symbiotic relationships between nerds and queer kids exist, but they're the cool kids, now. They're becoming the bullies themselves.

Remember, Anita Sarkeesian and gamergate happened because some opportunistic marketers saw this for-profit nerd culture shit and decided they could make a quick buck by pretending to be nerds and then getting mad at real nerds for not worshipping them.

Think about that.

VERY COOL. Me personally I am not afraid of being a nerd, it's a way of life. I mean, there's nothing wrong with a grown 40 year old man walking around dressing in a shirt that a 12 year old would wear.

I Fucking Love Science. Right up the same alley. Don't learn about actual science, just reshare pics of space nebulae and retweet George Takei's shitty tired memes.

Think about that.

Many "girl nerds" will go to long lengths to prove that they are also nerds and thus deserve to influence the culture because they read and watch geek media for the fun of it, and not just because they are posers.

It certainly does not mean that they are similar to typical nerds in behavior or what they want from nerd media, nor does it mean that their presence is good for the culture or its market, who feels the need to shift towards their (often tumblr-based) views while inevitably alienating both audiences due to their fundamental differences.

There are many articles that try to "protect" these kinds of girl nerds. Needless to say, they all accuse men of "insecurities" and wanting to create "secret clubs" where they can promote and engage in their "toxic behavior".

The fact that they claim to act the same as the original nerd culture, but that they also want to radically change it, shows that they never fit the culture to begin with, despite consuming the same media.

If I get gifted one more fucking pop funko because people think thats a cool nerdy gift I will literally vomit blood. Only upside is I can always sell the fucking things to twats who think having a wall full of the damn things makes them a kewl nerd.

I don't understand Funko Pops. They have them for many regular franchises, like Lost, so the market is I guess "nerds that like nerd stuff and other stuff too"? And are there that many people that want one of Dolores Umbridge? And why? My Barnes & Noble has several of those, even it's a purposely unlikeable character last seen in movies that are several years old now, like that's something people will want to buy at the mall...
collecting purposes

they wanna have a full collection so they can brag to their friends or resell it on amazon/ebay for absurd prices

I'd say it was 2007 era pop culture tbh.

A few more things that happened were the Wii bringing casuals into gaming (and "dividing" the console userbase), and the release of Team Fortress 2.
The whole Xbox 360 marketing itself to normies with Halo and Gears of Wars and the rise of the current era of Comic Book Movies gave rise to the normies nerds.

I gotta also say that the funko craze just doesnt seem to end. It feels like each day the company gets new shows/media to make pops of that people buy up the nose for.

Heck, go to any big name con like sdcc and you'll find people waiting in line for the exclusives funko pop.

Some of them look pretty cool, but most of the time they just look sort of meh or are often rerelases of popular characters just in a different pose/accessories.
Many of them are so generic you can’t even tell who they are, although Disney Afternoon one’s look pretty good I guess.
