I actually only just heard that the game was a big piece of shit, but after taking a quick squize at it, I'll have to clarify something:

There's a difference between having decisions that change your journey but at the end lead to the same ending vs a game where you have no fucking options to begin with

You know, i never considered the implications of Krusie getting more popular than Suselle might entail given Toby's thing for giving nods and bowing to his fans a lot in the game.
It reminds me of a certain reddit comment i posted around here, where they theorized if the Noelle and Susie pairing leads to the imminent doom on the prophecy. It read mostly as a cope for the Krusie shipper, but it really makes you think about the implications of Noelle being really important in the grand scheme of things.

Krusie is more popular because it's simply the better relationship. Kris and Susie have actual history and their connection deepens naturally and in an emotionally cathartic way throughout the story whether you see it as having romantic undertones or as purely platonic.

Suselle, on the other hand, comes off like an AO3 fanfic version of romance or something from a schlocky teen movie. It's forced and cringey.

That or Noelle becomes so easy to control that the ring is no longer necessary and she simply gives it back to "Kris" (you).
