Most fan projects fail, sadly. People lose interest/motivation, collaborators fall out, people run out of money, PCs die. It happens.

Undertale yellow is the only legit fangame I've played, the rest are made by troons, tweens and tween troons

Funnily enough, Undertale Yellow is actually the least woke game out of all the shit in the Undertale Franchise, despite it being a fan game. The main character is literally referred to as, “My King” in the game, and if you use gendered pronouns the community won’t jump you. Also on the topic of fangames, I’m pretty sure the reason why Undertale Yellow became so popular is because it’s literally probably the only fangame that was actually finished, and it’s actually original, and not some retarded AU or the one billionth Sans/Chara fight. That and the fact that Toby Fox greenlit its creation.

Undertale Yellow is basically cut from the same cloth that Undertale itself was, so the effort put into it and the resulting high praise is unsurprisingly comparable. It plays and feels like an actual Undertale DLC/spinoff.

Like UT was already a small project made by a tiny passionate team that just blew up in popularity by sheer chance, so theoretically other random people could very well match it in terms of quality. It's not a AAA million dollar budget game that needed 400 people working on it, Toby Fox built his game in a cave with a box of scraps.

Sadly most of the UT fandom were children and trannies at the time of the game's release so most were either unwilling or unable to do so. UTY was absolutely the exception.

I liked undertale yellow, the main critique I have of it is the character designs don't look like they fit in a Toby fox world. They're way too Original Character(tm).

is undertale yellow any good? i hear mixed things about it.
I enjoyed it, genocide route feels a bit slow at times because you never really get strong enough to one shot even the weak enemies. The music is really good but some of the gimmicks and bullet patterns are a pain to get through. A lot of people complain that there's too many anthro monsters but there's tons in undertale too that people just seem to erase from their minds.

I'll be honest I've heard good and bad things about Yellow but I'm not super interested in playing an Undertale fan game. Certain games lend themselves better to fan games/total conversions/hacks, and I'm not too certain on Undertale and to a lesser extent Deltarune lend themselves to being interesting fan projects in that regard.

>fangame gains popularity (Undertale Yellow)
>immediately itch.io is filled with clones following the same naming convention (Undertale [colour]) that amount a trailer and 0.0.1 version release

UTY genocide ending is pretty fucking kino tbh

All creative endeavors are filled with people who put more effort into talking about what they're going to make than actually making it. It's the way it is.

Personally, I don’t view that specific character as Nonbinary.

Take a look at this and tell me that this isn’t just some zesty fish dude.

The only issue I had with Yellow was the writing. A lot of times the story kinda feels unsatisfying in a way I'm unsure how to quantify. It feels like a lot of things just kinda happen for no reason, with little setup or payoff. Also, it has the issue where it just doesn't know when to shut up, and the dialogue scenes just kinda drag on and on and go nowhere. If anything it makes me appreciate how well done UT/DR's dialogue scenes are, like even that one part in Chapter 2 where Noelle is just kinda talking at you and rambling is made memorable by walking around and spelling out 'DECEMBER' instead of just standing there and pressing A to see the next text box.
Other than that, visuals and music were awesome. I'm glad to see that the project managed to bear fruit in the end.

The way I feel about this game can be summed up by the Flowey fight at the end of the Neutral Route. The art and aesthetics are top-notch, all the phases being a different design and sometimes an entirely different medium was an incredible idea that was executed perfectly.
But unlike in Undertale where the fight ends with the wind at your back and you're finally able to damage the bastard, in Yellow you get his health to zero and then the music fades out and it all just kinda stops abruptly. Flowey goes "alright I'm gonna reset the timeline now lol" and then the game ends, roll credits. They couldn't have come up with a less satisfying ending if they tried.
It's a moment where you can feel Toby Fox's usually-subtle secret sauce sorely missing. Much of the game has a similar feel: It's Undertale but created by bog standard indie devs instead of Sneaky Tony, the kinds of devs who are great at art but can't write themselves out of a paper bag.

Undertale Yellow is pretty good. It lacks the distinct Toby Fox charm, but it's the only fan project worth a damn.
Got pretty sick of the blue bird self-insert furry character though. Way too much screen time for such a mid character.

What did Toby mean with this?
