I blame the writing getting worse overtime as the Leftism corruption settles in. Kris being the subject of the standard "white/hetero male humiliation ritual" might happen... If that wouldn't piss off the troons identifying with Kris.
Also, Kris is a guy.

There's a lot of predictions/wishcasting in this thread that Toby is a secret chud and won't go with the dyke romance because he hates le delta western fan. Meanwhile it's been clear since Chapter 1 that Noelle's main purpose in the story (in the non-weird route at least) is to be Susie's gay lover. The most optimistic outcome I can see is Susie friendzoning her, but as we all know, only straight people are allowed to have relationship issues in this game (loveless marriage, divorce, polygamy, girlfriend kidnapped by Satan). That guy some time ago who said Toby has a lesbian fetish got it right on the money.

That said, I disagree with the idea that Kris only exists to be punished by the Player's actions. He's up to some shady shit with the Knight and Carol, shady enough that he doesn't want us to know about those phone calls and he's willing to watch Susie and Ralsei get knocked the fuck out without lifting a finger. If/when he gets de-handed it'll probably have something to do with that.
While we don't know what Gaster's intent for us is, our motivation as the Player is nominally to save the world and stop the Dimensional Merge Roaring. If Gaster turns out evil or if Kris ratfucks us out of that, we can at least say we were tricked and it wasn't some sort of "are you really... le good person??" moment. Point being, our motivation in the non-weird route is not as evil as whatever Kris and the gang have in mind.

Toby Fox was always that way though. For some reason he seems to be fascinated with the idea of homosexuality. His first big project, an Earthbound halloween hack revolved around dr Andonuts being a repressed gay and killing everyone because of that. He also worked on Homestuck, another very gay project where he was close with the author, and that possibly influenced his affinity for homos further. In Undertale there's a lot of gay/trans characters and you even play a hand at getting 2 male guards to go on a date. And Mother 3 also has a lot of unconfortable moments where gay men put their hands on the main character(a child), although I'm not sure if that game was as important for Toby as Earthbound.

Feel free to downdoot me, but I think Elnina and Lanino were really cute together, and I would have loved it if the plot had progressed into a TV melodrama to reunite these two jilted lovers, y'know, since we’re in a TV world???
