Toby basically spoke about how he wishes that fans expand the underground lore and don't restrict themselves by just what Toby says
Yeah maybe that'd be neat but instead what we got was 500 sanses. I GOT BOXES FULL OF SANS

Oh god that still reminds me the time I was playing tf2 like... oh god 8 or 9 years ago now jesus fuck but some CHILD some BABY BOY was STALKING a teammate who's username was sans with the funny skeleton Pfp and fucking constantly trying to do some weird rp with a grown ass man who just liked the funny skeleton from vidya so he set his visible username to it. NOOOO STALKER CHILD, YOU WILL NOT HAVE YOUR SANS GENOCIDE ROUTE FIGHT ROLEPLAY! STAND ON THE POINT!

...I kinda wonder sometimes how that kid turned out and really where anyone who was there during that bizzare exchange is these days. Hopefully it's not just all troons and politics team bugman cionversions.

his wishes will go unfulfilled.
Most of the UNDERTALE fandom is too pussy to explore a literal racewar (although, to be fair, Toby seems to intentionally steer away from any racial tension/racism allegories which is a strangely prescient choice)

Fuck it, since I oddly don't really see anyone talking about it anywhere else. It's all just fag shit. Usually only for about a month after the chapter release people actually talk about the game.
I honestly think a lot of people don't talk about the shadow crystals enough, they're clearly going to be important down the line considering there's even a counter for them and a failsafe method to collect them if you forgot to pick them up somehow. It's obvious they are important.

Now in the dark world when you use one yourself it just seems to show you the light world equivalent of where you are. But they also seemingly drive people insane I guess?
Or maybe just being able to see the truth of what they are is what drove them insane? Who knows. Could be it only has this effect on darkners exclusively. But again who knows? That's just me making shit up.

But when you use them in the light world is when shit gets interesting because it's not really clear what it's showing. As an example, if you use it in Chapter 2 with Susie around it says that when you look at her through the shard you see her glaring at you coldly. But the second you move it away you see her smiling and making a "rude gesture" at you. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this was literally just Susie fucking with you for a laugh but who knows?
If you use it in Noelle's house in Chapter 4 you see Noelle close up against you whispering.
What does any of this mean? Who fucking knows, but it's really strange and interesting.
The fact that it also says you or more likely Kris won't throw them away because it feels "Very wrong" to do so is very bizarre as well.

Also as a random bonus if you try to give Ralsei the black shard the fact that he says he SHOULDN'T use it rather than anything else also piqued my interest. (Black Shard is what you get from the Roaring Knight btw not the Shadow Crystal.)

Seam forges them together into the pure crystal. The weapon you use the 5 crystals (+ thorn ring from an aborted snowgrave route) to forge, the Twisted Sword, is the only weapon in the game that actually kills enemies when you defeat them.

It's inaccessible legitimately right now obviously, but apparently it's pretty busted. I imagine it's probably going to be needed for one of the endings.

I'm watching the Asriel fight in the anniversary stream.
That scrolling collage of everyone's memories avatars is like the offended page on Encyclopedia Dramatica.
It might as well be gore. It's just a horrifyingly long list of troon OCs.
There were no trans flags in that whole collage, which means Toby instructed whoever was in charge, if not him, don't accept any flags

I dunno how I feel about shadow crystals.
Shadow Crystals weren't even a thing until chapter 2, then they got retconned into existing in chapter 1.
Makes me worried that Toby changed parts of his original vision to more so include the secret bosses at some point.

I have a theory in regards to Jevil and his claim to be able to do anything. So as Ralsei explained, the Darkners are all objects in the real world who take on living, anthropomorphized forms in the Dark World because of Lightners' imaginations running wild in the deep dark. Ralsei's comment about how Darkners of dead Lightners can only appear in certain dark worlds makes me think that the one who makes a fountain has a lot of influence over what form the Darkners take, and they stay consistent when getting moved between fountains by Kris and Susie because that's the form they're already recognized in. And there's some arbitrarity in whether objects turn into Darkners or other objects in the Dark World. Kris can keep Darkners like Lancer in his pocket as the card he is just the same as he keeps things like pencils, bandages, and candy in his pocket which turn into weapons, armor, and food.

So I think that when Jevil found out the true nature of the Dark World he went insane, but he also became self-aware of the mutability of his own being. In reality he's a joker card, and the imagination of the one who made the dark fountain molded him into the form of a jester, but does he have to be? He could have been imagined as something else. And with that self-awareness, perhaps he could start imposing his own will onto what he is. Hence why when he's locked alone in the pitch dark basement, he claims he has greater freedom then those outside and can "do anything". He's no longer subject to other's perception of him dictating his form, so he's free to make himself and his immidiate surroundings into whatever he wants. He has this power to an extent even after the heroes find him. Hence while he's the joker card in the real world no matter what, he doesn't have to be Jevil in the dark world. He can decide he, the joker card, is a scythe in the dark world that you can use as a weapon, or a tail you can use as armor.

i am really interested to see what toby and his crew do with this. if you think about it, aborted snowgrave is kind of an "inbetween" route if we only have regular and snowgrave as our two routes. it's like it's something that shouldn't be possible, that you can still do, just like finding the eggs which are also gotten by going "inbetween" rooms to a space that should not exist, but does.

How galaxy-brained would Toby have to be to make aborted snowgrave the true ending? The only alternative is if you can unequip the Thorn Ring in chapter 5’s weird route and get the Twisted Sword that way.

Ok, one last (maybe) sperg out.
I like how UNDERTALE was one of the last big games to feature non-smartphones. Probably due to the DEMO coming out in 2013.

I mean, Queen does say she "Only Plays Mobile Games". Unless you consider "Snake" and "Bounce Tales" as mobile games (which is technically correct)
What if she only plays OG warioware?

The tech level in DR feels like it's stuck in the 2000s. People have landlines, pcs are all chunky, every car looks like a brick still, no one is actually on their phones unless they're calling/texting someone, etc.. The only mention I can remember of actual current year tech made after 1998 in the lightworld is Noelle's flatscreen, which she apparently wants to get rid of to buy a CRT, and Queen as a Laptop.

Either the game takes place in 2007 or everyone in this town is a giant hipster.

I feel like it would be fitting for the true ending to not be locked behind pacifism but some other weird third thing to fuck with players. At the same time I dont see Toby having the balls to make you having to slaughter Darkners and finding a third path to break the game the good ending in any way.

It's honestly kinda funny how literally everything about Kris screams "teenage boy". His name, his appearance, his personality, his hobbies, his behavior etc. are all traits a guy would have. Even his one-off gag costumes are all clearly male in appearance, but people still insist that Toby using ambiguous language magically makes the character 100% non-binary and don't you DARE get it """wrong""".
I'm glad I'm not the only one that clocked Kris as a boy immediately. Nothing about Kris says female to me in any capacity but I always have to police myself and not accidentally refer to him as anything other than "they" anywhere else or everyone will just ignore whatever I said to do the retarded
>ERM AKSHULLY IT'S "THEY/THEM" CHUD?!
It's so goddamn insufferable. It's a fictional fucking character anyway. Who the fuck cares? Well besides actual retards.
As for the being ambiguous on purpose so the player can project onto them thing sadly with Deltarune they just bring up the argument of "KRIS ISN'T (YOU) RETARD" blah blah "Nobody can choose who they are in this world" ect. "STOP OPPRESSING THIS FICTIONAL CHARACTER," BIGOT! It's all so tiresome.

I can't find it now, maybe Toby deleted it or I just schizo'd it but I swear to God I remember years ago closer to when Undertale originally came out someone asked Toby on twitter about Frisk and Chara's gender and Toby outright stated they were meant to be ambiguous on purpose so that the player could identify with them or something. I wouldn't be surprised if he deleted this tweet to appease the genderspecials or something.

Alright that was my vent post about that aspect of the fandom. :lossmanjack:Having to walk on eggshells over absolutely retarded shit like this is exactly why a lot of people fucking hate this game and the fandom. I wouldn't want to play a game or associate with its community too if everyone who talks about it are obnoxious niggerlords too. I fucking get it.
