I've unfortunately had to use that language in certain leftist spaces to avoid their ire. For instance, when talking about something specific to being a woman (i.e. having a period), I had to quickly amend my "being a woman" to "being afab." Do I use that language normally? Absolutely not. It makes me cringe.
I don't think gender critics "seek a society where men and women have different and rigid roles"; I see no Gender Critics saying that men cannot do homekeeping work. What gender critics seek is a society where men are not recognized as women, nor vice versa.

There has been a deliberate and forceful push to represent Gender Critical views as the opposite of what they are are. There's different definitions but they all are a variety of the concept that gender is a socially constructed belief that varies by time and place and should never be imposed on people against their will. A man is no less of a man because he likes dresses and make-up. A woman is no less of woman because she likes short hair and rough sports. Gender non-conformity (sometimes shortened to GNC) is a right and no-one should be punished for being GNC. 15 years ago this was mainstream and progressive; now it's hatespeech because it denies men are women because they like skirt-go-spinny.
The TRAs and fellow travellers claiming that GC beliefs try to impose gender norms instead of removing them is absurd. It's a lie that's repeated so often ordinary people believe it's true, especially as actual GC beliefs are so heavily censored on shitholes like reddit.
