Doing this in the three kingdoms style would probably be the best case scenario. However, I haven't looked, but I assume there will be a medieval 2 mod out there that meets some of these requirements.

On a related note, I feel that the Arthurian Legend theme is drastically under-represented in modern games. So much potential there that hasn't really been touched on in this medium for some reason.

I agree that Three Kingdoms was surprisingly good, but that got abandoned by CA really quickly. Didn't they cancel some major DLC and all updates for that game?

I doubt they will follow that sort of formula since they appeared to lose faith in it so quickly.

Ultimately, if they go with the more "realistic" style, then I see no reason not to just stick with Medieval 2.
There is actually a pretty good Arthurian game, pretty old by now, but it was very similar to Warhammer Total War, I would be hugely surprised if CA didn't take massive inspiration from it. Called King Arthur I and II. Can recommend to the interested.

There was a "plan" to extend the map northwards and include some of the nomadic raider from that region, probably an actual 3K start date and other stuff. Got canned because CA was doing complete bullshit with previous DLC and nobody bought it. Hence, why they stopped suddenly developing the game. Really shame since 3K was a big step forward in terms of mechanics and actually new stuff for the series.
There was also the fact that support got dropped just as Warhammer 3 was nearing completion and they were diverting funds and talent to Hyenas.
The modding community though has made the 190 expanded start mod that adds the northern barbarian regions and Korea to the game

I would actually prefer if they never did anything historical again, the inclusion of female fighters in Rome 2 still pisses me off.

They will do the same revisionist bullshit in Medieval 2.
Honestly the women-only regiments in R2 weren't nearly as stupid as the mixed units in Attila. A lot of the low tier Nomadic, Celtic, Nordic and Germanic units have women mixed in with the men.

I can imagine mixed race units being put into M2 with negroe European knights and shiiiieeeeet like that.

Lol, didn't even know that, never played Attila. That's complete revisionism with no basis.

The mention of African knights got me to think about a Total War game set in Africa. Perhaps in 17th and 18th century West Africa as African Kingdoms add gunpowder to their armies.

The problem would be getting the history right as one misstep and you’ve made Slavery: The Strategy Game.

Nobody gives a shit about African history except Egypt.

Game would be a giant flop.
They know this, so they are making European games and just put Niggers in them.

Yeah, this wouldn't do well. At most if they ever made an Empire Total War 2, this would be an expansion pack or a faction. Also they did have gunpowder somewhat earlier than that due to trade with Moroccans. The problem was until the market got flooded, they were treated more as art pieces or prestigious items used to hunt than for war. They needed more of them before gunsmithing could kick in.

If they really wanted to add Kangz n sheeit, they'd need to expand Medieval 3 to include the Horn of Africa and perhaps Mali. It wouldn't be too out of the blue, but also not sell like shit. Well it would if CA weren't a bunch of fucking idiots.

I'm going to assume that the M3 map will most likely be similar to M2 and Attila. And since they had Aksum in Attila, it would be fine to include the Ethiopian Empire since it was Christian. Otherwise, it remains to be seen if they will force various skin complexions into the individual soldier, women as soldiers and if they shake up the campaign can take clues from Crusader Kings if you will have a lot of female rulers and a lot of characters having a gay orientation.

But what worries me the most is the battle system. WH really fired CA's brain and I can't imagine they will be capable to slow the battles the fuck down and have no single entity units. Not to mention, make the battles feel fun again. WH has become so boring, despite the claims by the fan base that dragons and magic are much more exciting than spearmani. Attila still reigns supreme, and they should at least make it equal to that.

What else will they be able to release in the next couple of years?
The WH3 train won't stop anytime soon.

Well, I certainly could have elaborated a bit more. True, WH3 probably is the only decent source of revenue they have, but if things don't go how they envision it, CA will just cut support. And how slow their development cycle has been, it can't be that dire otherwise they would have shifted people around to work again on WH3. And more importantly, I would be surprised if the game that's going to be announced next is not going to be released next year towards the holiday season. And even if it's 2027, unless it actually happens, I don't believe we are getting anything else apart from the Nagash DLC next year.

We can expect End Times DLC plus Neferata DLC which was previously hinted.
I thought Neferata was part of the Nagash DLC. You see her in the video at the least but no details on how it shakes out. Maybe they'll make her an FLC.

AFAIK it was stated that Nagash will be the only Undead ET LL.
Makes sense to make Neferata a Vampire Counts LL. They're already due for an update, and most of her roster and most of the Mortarchs are already vampire counts

Ok so I think if you are doing a total war star wars game you have to do Clone Wars era since that gives you two factions with plenty of unit types and regular standing armies.

My only other idea with the star wars franchise is do basically a warfare of the ancient star wars galaxy that eventually leads to the formation of the republic. I dont know how detailed the lore is now in the disney canon but you could make up ancient factions that predated the republic.

The fact that 20 years went by before the even announced preproduction of m3 is a joke. Means it’ll be ten years at least until we see rome3 or empire2. Ca deserves its inevitable bankruptcy
True, but I don't think anybody wanted a M3 made by CA from a couple of years ago. That would have been an unmitigated disaster. Single entity, Richard the Lionheart on his dragon, killing the evil crusaders.

I have no idea what Empire 2 would look like now. Line battles with a lot of toggleable buffs and Napoleon being a Single Entity beatstick.
