IN 2017 BOOTCHA LAUNCHED A SERIES OF VIDEOS OUTLINING THE STORY AND FAILURES OF THE STAR CITIZEN CROWDFUNDING PROJECT. HE CLAIMED IT TO BE "THE MOST INTERESTING STORY IN GAMING". IT IS CURRENTLY 2020 AND AS OF YET THE SERIES REMAINS INCOMPLETE AND SIX MONTHS HAVE ELAPSED WITH NO COMMUNICATION.

In all seriousness he was supposedly doing interviews at Citizencon for his next video, but went dark after posting a few videos of himself waiting there for interviewees. I wonder what the hold-up is.

If I had to guess, either nobody showed up, the person he was hyped for didn't show up, or there's a legal issue preventing him from releasing the interview he wants (he didn't get a good permission contract set up, or something). He seemed to imply it was a dev or insider speaking to him there.

It's evolved into a complete scam. I called it out back in that fateful July 2015 blog which lit the industry (every single leading gaming news site carried it) on fire because it contained bold claims which most people were thinking but were too scared to voice because of Chris Roberts.

Now, 9 yrs later + $300m raised via crowdfunding + $63m in public investment (2018 & 2020), they still don't even have anything resembling the two "games" they claimed they could build for $2m - back in 2012.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we'd still be having this discussion five years (in two days) after that blog.
 
It's 9 years. Chris Roberts claimed that development started in 2011. And the Crytek lawsuit also confirmed this because they started working on that demo back in 2011. It's what they used in the 2012 Kickstarter. So, 2011 to 2020 is 9 yrs; regardless of how the fanboys want to wave off years of dev with nonsensical arguments like, they were building an office, they started from scratch etc. All the while ignoring the statements made by CR himself.

In another 9 years we'll have a "Sunk Cost Galaxy Community" thread where it's just me wondering when the full expose on CR will be finished.
 
Well, yesterday was the 5 yr anniversary of The July Blog. It's completely unbelievable to me that literally everything that I wrote in that blog has come to pass.

Meanwhile, we have a new contender for "It's totally a scam and money laundering op" crown.

No Warthog is complete shit. I was able to get a Fat Black Mamba Mk. III SE. It is really great. Along that line of thought, I'm pretty disappointed in the direction VKB has gone after. The Gunfighters are nice but they really hit the sweet spot with their older hardware. Also VKB has pretty awful customer service and major supply issues unless you live next to Russia.

I've got a couple custom panels and a throttle by GVL and the Crosswind for the floor. When I went looking around at the really elaborate setups these were the names that kept popping up. And all of my old shit was from the late 90s so it was high time for an upgrade.

There was a time I thought about investing in VR but decided against it and am glad that I did. Not only has that technology not progressed nearly as well as I would have hoped, but it is expensive!! The HOTAS subreddit of all places directed me to infrared head tracking and that has been excellent. It is very immersive.

I always thought the Warthog set up was nice, those VKBs are neato though.

I had a complete CH set up before I sold it to a friend, I'm pretty sure that HOTAS and peddles will survive a nuclear war.

Warthogs are pretty solid, but they have a blast molded gimbal that has a seam going right down the middle so they give you really bad "bump" when crossing laterally through neutral. And for the amount you would pay for a Warthog, you can get a significantly better stick from VKB or Virpil. They'll still be plastic though. Metal gimbals are going to cost you a pretty penny, relatively speaking.

I do like Thrustmaster's throttle for the Warthog system, it's pretty nice. And it's one of the few viable commercially-produced split throttles on the market. I almost got it but then GVL posted a few really nice custom throttles and he will let you request features, so that was a no brainer.

I run a virpil mongoose and throttle with crosswinds. I've never liked VR, and I run head tracking instead as well.

And as a former Harrier driver I can tell you the DCS Harrier is currently better than any of the $15 million sims we had for them in the 90s.

The Hornet, Huey and Tomcat modules are the ones that really make it worthwhile, though. I can't say enough nice things

I always heard the Harriers we got from the Brits were shithouses. Confirm/Deny?

Also, any of you guys ever play Falcon BMS?

They were all bad, but the alphas and charlies were really fucking bad in terms of randomly trying to murder pilots and never wanting to work right int he first place. The first bravos weren't great by any means either, but the plus was substantially better aside from the known issues with ejection seat failures and hydraulics problems.

I have a few friends who are now in 35's who really prefer them in every way, shape and form to the Harrier, though. Including one who spent his career in hornets

I guess it wouldn't be a USMC aircraft if it wasn't trying to murder Marines. Why did we buy those things again? And I'm still surprised that given the clusterfuck that was its development that the F35 is actually good.
