Riordan is pretty well known for hating all the changes the movies made to his story, so if he's involved in the Disney+ show in any capacity I'd imagine it will be somewhat more true to the books. The real question is if he's become so woke that he'll use the show as an excuse to make the original characters more "diverse" to appeal to his increasingly SocJus fanbase. After that awful genderqueer character, I honestly wouldn't put it past him to decide that Grover is a proud trans-goat or something.
The Satyrs and by extension Centaurs being black makes a lot of since... after all in a way they were the original niggers

also can someone post some quotes from the book? especially the norse gods talking about allah
none of the gods talk about Allah. Magnus (the mc) basically asks Samirah how she’s able to work as a valkyrie and believe in the norse gods if she’s muslim, to which she explains that she thinks the gods were created by allah and are just super powerful beings, but not gods. Later she says “allahu akhbar” and explains to Magnus its actual meaning and that it’s not just something terrorists yell before bombing people.

my favorite woke quote in the entire series has to be when the genderfluid character Alex tells Magnus, verbatim, “I’m genderfluid and transgender, idiot”. Several characters talk to Magnus about their experiences with genderfluid people in their respective times (T.J, a black union soldier, says he met a trans person named Madam William when he was alive. It is implied that Magnus’s dad Frey had an orgy/relations with genderfluid people).

Alex being genderfluid is explained by them being a child of loki (who apparently is known to change genders too) and a shapeshifter, so they also feel they don’t fit into a single gender either. I give him credit for being a little creative. Dialogue wise, he’s not very subtle so it does come off as forced though.

The final Trials of Apollo came out but the series got really shitty so I'm just going to get it from the library instead of buying it.
Seems like Riordan's next series will be Celtic, I shudder to think about the wokeness level

If it's anything like the Magnus Chase series, then we already know what fresh hell is in for us as Rick continues to touch pantheons of Europe.

Cu Chulainn will probably be evil or a massive asshole, just like Hercules was in Heroes of Olympus.

Can't forget that scene where Magnus declares "I'm an atheist" despite... everything. I don't think it's brought up again.
There was also a line from the first book where Samirah says she was bullied for being Muslim at school. In Boston, Massachusetts, haven for liberal thought since 1630.

I've read a few of his books in the past (and watched the Percy Jackson movie), and found them to be Harry Potter all over again.
That's intentional. Teen finds out he's magic and belongs to a hidden supernatural world with high stakes, a special school he goes to every year, with a monster of the week year showing up and almost destroying everything. That's Harry Potter but with Greek myth instead of wizards.
But I'll never read the rest of them because of the extremely poor precedent he sets for teens. Genderfluid this. Non-binary that.
Riordan was never an organic discovery like Rowling. His publishers wanted a Harry Potter IP for their own, so they found an uninspired moron who can put words together. And Riordan has plundered Norse and Egyptian myth for his shit writing as well. I hate him. And yeah, also for the gender / progressive bullshit.

Magnus’s atheism is used to describe his disbelief in a capital-G God, juxtaposed with Samirah’s devoutness. He brings it up a few times when he and Samirah talk about religion or the absurdity of their situation, and it makes their interactions/relationship interesting imo.

Samirah being bullied in a Boston school for being muslim, especially in (what I assume is) the early 2000s, isn’t really a stretch.

I'm glad that the only book that I read was his was the one with the underground maze. But even then, it was a little bit pozzed, with the girl getting pissed off at the Sphinx instead of just playing along with the easy SAT test.

Riordan's sperging about standardized testing in that book was (At the time) his most notable view, besides his disdain for either consumerism or people buying fast food since in his previous book before that Spinx scene had the mascots come to life and are powered by the general public inadvertently supplying them with it.

That one while not as infamous or notable, foreshadowed what would come.

Shit reads like parody.

No actual person says stuff like "non-hetero-normative" in their day to day life. Next he'll be giving detailed descriptions of all the nice polyamorous trans lesbian bissexual bipoc hobos he meets and their neopronouns.

The MC should be stated that he's a homeless kid and lived on the streets for two whole years, meaning that this gender nonsense is even LESS natural dialogue for a sixteen year old who isn't attending school or been drinking the Tumblr Kool-Aid, because I'd figure most homeless teens are less concerned about pronouns and more towards finding their next meal.

Don't even get me started on Rick's attempt at "EEEEVVVVIIILLL RACIST COPS!" in this book.

Going back here again! It's clearly a ghost writer for Riordan because no teenager talks like an indoctrinated college chick. If he were an actual zoomer teen, he'd probably say something like:

It's deadass too bad about the gay shit and all, but I ignored her. Not into hearing sob stories right now. I got titan asses to kick!

You know, looking back at the original P.J series (without all this shared universe fuckery that was a fucking mistake in my opinion)

You kind of feel like the conclusion of the story felt very formuliac if that makes any sense.

Cronos is defeated and things are back to the barely functional status quo. Gods are still massive arrogant pricks who treat humans like shit but hey, at least we are not speaking titan, arent we?

It just feels like there wasnt a moment where the gods are forced to at themselves and asks "Are we the baddies?" since greek mythology has no shortage of stories where the gods come off as borderline cosmic horror monsters. And we are suppose to want them around even if Cronos would have been the worse option?

I dont know, I know this series was meant for middle schoolers and ultimately what Im suggesting would kind of end up being out of their age range but it really feels like, if this series were allowed to, it should have asked the question "Is Luke right? At least in some way? Sure, Cronos isnt the preferable option but to just stick with those gods doesnt seem like the best option either".

This is where I kind of think the fact that this story being meant for children kind of held it back on some real possibilities. Having our hero realise that he is fighting for a dysfunctional status quo and there that, while he is fighting against Cronos, he isnt fighting for the gods either and that there has to be a way to making this world less fucked up than already is with all these monsters roaming around freely.

Sometimes the series is REALLY counting on kids not knowing some of the darkest tales of mythology, which, lets face it, are a lot. Rick wanted to keep things simple and I can respect that but I would also kind of recognise that this story could have been better or at least have more spice if it bothered to explore these territories.

To be fair, there atheists that could meet God right on their faces and then still say they are still atheists later on.

Doesnt help these characters are meant to be really young so fuck you if you think kids/teens talk like that.

We got the answer- The Trio is Complete!

The optimist in me wants to believe Riordan let them cast the black girl as Annabeth as a compromise so he could keep Rachel Elizabeth Dare (a redhead whose initials literally spell "red") as a white girl, but realistically they'll probably change her too. Tbh I'm shocked they kept Percy himself white, half the fanbase is convinced he's hispanic.
