Tomb Raider 2013 wasn't the worst game I've ever played but it was one of my most miserable gaming experiences.
It's like it was made by a committee that saw the most cancerous AAA trends and decided to make a game out of em;
The super magnetized "platforming" and complete and utter lack of any hazard.
The action setpieces that play themselves (largely due to the above)
The generic gears of war shooting.
The focus on being gritty and mature survival experience despite the fact the game has regenerating health and constantly treats the player like an infant.
The game being story focused and the story and writing quality in general being awul
The completely pointless RPG elements, complete with perk tree, half of which consists of such interesting perks like "get more xp/parts when doing X"
The fucking detective vision.
And a bunch of other shit I can't recall at the moment.
Again it's technically better than your hourly unity shovelware or most mobile games but it's a case of the whole being worse than the sum of its parts.

I will note that it's nowhere near as SJW as people say. Maybe it gets worse in the next two but they also cut out the lesbo subtext so I doubt it.
And from what I've heard the sequels are actually better in some ways, but still focus too much on being a cinematic experience.

It’s a shame Core went defunct, Legend is probably my favorite of the old games. Short but replayable. Underworld was a massive disappointment to me. Angel of Darkness had an interesting story plus Kurtis was a neat character, but it was just so chock-full of bugs that it suffered as a result. Couldn’t even finish my copy of the game because of one in particular.

I hated the Soy reboot at first, now I’m indifferent.

Told Raider 2013- Not going to lie, I enjoyed it. It has some interesting ideas, such as the metrovania map design. But it was really for collecting collectables.

RoTR - It was a solid improvement over the first one, with some great DLC missions. Denuvo and MTX killed it for me on the other hand.

Don't know if I'll we be getting the 3rd tbh, heard a lot of people don't like it.

Last one I played was 2013, honestly I thought it was a decent enough time killer, but I struggle to remember much about it. I've wanted to play the newer ones but fuck if I'm paying full price.

Doesn't help that Rhianna Pratchett only seems to get writing gigs because her dad wrote Discworld. Her work is just kinda...why is it a big deal when she's on a writing staff? It's serviceable but forgettable. Anyone could write the games she writes. Writing talent isn't hereditary.

Overlord was the only serviceable thing she wrote, everything else has been downright terrible. In some interview she says it's very hard to write for video games since the devs can just order the story to be re-written at any time and stuff like that but that's not much of an excuse when you've never written anything good. Guess she just has games press connections.

Why do people make such a big deal over soy, it's a fucking plant.

If you eat too much soy your pecker stops working properly, and before you know it you're writing "woke" stories in games, which are actually thinly veiled jackoff fantasies.

I own and played TR up to Angel of Darkness, when they made analog controls mandatory and somehow I couldn't cope with that. I had calluses from the PS1 controller up to that point. TR1 still has some of my favorite musical moments.

Last Revelation is my favorite (despite the absolute shit that is the vehicle controls), just because I'm a sperg for Egyptology sometimes and that game of Senet vs the AI rocked my world lol.

I got Anniversary out of curiosity but haven't done much with it. Been playing a lot more analog-dependent games in recent years, so maybe I'll be competent when I try it again.

I've only played the first one, among the soy trilogy but, I Always thought it was dumb and cringy.
starting from the attempted Rape qte, her crying after killing a deer and then, she ends up screaming ''Im CUMMINH FOR YOU ALL, BASTARDS''.
and let's not forget the ''nice guy'' who sacrifices himself and the best she can muster is a kiss on his cheek.

Cant believe this was written by a professional.

I always felt it was neither good nor bad. It was the most generic AAA experience I'd had in a game not by UbiSoft.

I hate the reboot and I hate Nu Lara but that's not the point. The fucking fan base drives me nuts, I already quit tombraiderforums because rebooters have overtaken everything. They could spam and leave their shitty comments on any classic related project but you're not allowed to say anything negative about the reboot because that's "dividing the community". Like bitch, the community is already divided, there's no middle ground. Classic fans have been keeping the real Lara alive, made their own games and TRLE levels, financed the soundtrack remasters for classic TR and AOD, meanwhile rebooters been posting shit like this:
lara-croft-boob-raider-18-558.jpg
lara-croft-boob-raider-32-b77 (2).jpg
(it's from the cringy comic called "Lara Croft the Boob Raider" that completely shits over core design work)

Well, I never cared that I didn't look like Lara because I'm not a self-hating insecure twat and I don't get triggered by girls prettier than me.

Recently classic fans organized and started a hashtag "Bring back Classic Lara" and even a fan petition to let Squenix know there's a demand for the character. What do you think happened? All those "nice and inclusive" members of the fandom called the hashtag divisive and toxic because we apparently must "Respect all versions of Lara". And then Rhianna found out about it and got triggered because we hurt her feels, even though she left the franchise after Rise.

I'm tired of being nice and inclusive to these assholes. They tainted the franchise so much I can't even look at classic games anymore. But I don't even care. Shadow was a flop and pretty much killed the reboot. Maybe that's why rebooters are salty...

Was Shadow a flop?

I got to be honest, I don't like the old Tomb Raider games much, Lara herself is of course hot, but I tried them a few times and just couldn't get into the gameplay.

I actually liked the 2013 reboot a lot, sure Lara wasn't the hot pants and tank top sporting Lara, but you got the vibe she could become that, this was her "origin story", I feel like when the game was conceived it was less about a "feminist Lara" and more the "gritty reboot" in the vein of Batman Begins and Casino Royale.

I liked the setting and the supporting characters (especially Jonas) and though Lara dressed more conservatively she was still pretty hot.

Then with Rise, Lara was toned down even more, was less likable (though she still had a pretty nice ass, which is more than hardcore feminist would have allowed), but the game itself was solid, although I found the story and setting less interesting.

I actually liked that DLC where you explore Croft manor a lot, even though it was a "walking simulator"

I've yet to play Shadow though, while the setting is interesting to me they've toned down Lara even more, which is unfortunate.

I hope they keep the same continuity but for the next game I hope they bring sexy Lara back, just say she's evolved as a character to where she feels confident to wear the hot pants and tank top combo again.

Was Shadow a flop?
It sold about 7 million which was less than Rise which sold less than TR2013. But we don't know how many of those were sold on sale because it was discounted a lot. One planned dlc had to be cancelled so they only released an outfit instead. The definitive edition had no extra content.
Before the release SE talked about how they would make more games but after release they stated this was the final game in the trilogy.
But even if it sold good enough for them to greenlit another sequel we still haven't heard anything and it's been almost two years

I understand not liking classic games, they can be hard to get into. And I understand why reboot has its fans and fine with that. What I'm not fine with people behind the reboot having absolutely no respect for the source material. I understand why she had to be reinvisioned for younger audiences unfamiliar with the franchise but why call it Tomb Raider then?

Nu Lara will never become classic Lara because of how fundamentally different the characters are. Old Lara was disowned by her family because she refused an arrange marriage, so she had to make a name for herself to live independently. She wanted to be an adventurer and
she didn't need a tragic story for it. Nu Lara hates adventuring because it gave her PTSD and her character arc is about accepting her father's legacy and money. Or something...I wasn't paying attention to the story.

Shadow has less family drama because Rhianna left and it tries to focus more on actual tombraiding again. But to me it wasn't enough. I think they tried to give Lara more "realistic" body because people complained about her being too skinny to take down armies of men and undead zombies (even tho it's a video game). But she ended up looking more square and shapeless... and don't even get me started on her hair! Still it's not as bad comparing to Abbynator.

She actually wears shorts in the comics at one point...Which is funny because of how paranoid the devs are about putting her into shorts in the actual game. Because shorts are automatically sexual, I guess...

Anyway, if you enjoy those games, I'm happy for you. I just had really bad interactions with the diehard fans who are probably a vocal minority but, I swear, it feels like they've overtaken everything. And don't even get me started on Sam/Lara shippers...Because Lara is sooo toootally gayyyy you guys and Rhianna just couldn't made it canon because all those sexist homophobes at Crystal didn't allow her...Because that's totally happened

Messed around with Shadow's recently and actually sort of enjoyed it. Not paying to play it probably helps make it seem better. The action still comes off as awkward for a Tomb Raider game. It's just weird having Laura go around an enemy checkpoint stabbing people in the jugular. Makes me think the developers could make a decent playing Rambo game if given the chance though.
