We've had a huge amount of superhero movies going on for like ten years now and the public is still lining up to see those. They need to get their head out of their ass and fire Kennedy already, that's all you need to do to prevent fatigue.
One of the things that I think would help prevent fatigue from sinking in further would be to branch away from the Original Trilogy. Disney and Lucasfilms has had the OT get the lion's share of the attention ever since Lucas sold the IP, with the vast majority of the new canon comics, books, and games (even last year's Battlefront II had the majority of its content focused on the OT) centered around that era. Even their attempt at creating the Sequel Trilogy heavily relies on the OT, to the point where the movies feel like they're using the OT as a crutch (the most glaring example being the Chinese Rebel Alliance knockoff).

After Episode IX, they should focus on different eras, with new stories being centered around the PT and even way before them. I'm talking shit like a Count Dooku origin novel, a Republic Commando reboot, and movies that take place in the KOTOR era. Give the Clone Wars some more love, and create entirely new conflicts that can stand on their own without relying on the OT. Basically, they need to stop playing it safe and get creative.

I noticed that if the credits list John Swartzwelder as one of the people creating an episode, it's probably a good one.

John Swartzelder is a fascinating individual to me. He's credited for making some of the best Simpsons episodes and has written the most Simpsons episodes out of everyone who's ever worked on the show (59!!), but he's also an extreme recluse. The picture on Wikipedia is from 1992 for instance, and he hasn't done audio commentary for the DVDs even though virtually every other writer has done so.

He's the Terrence Malick of The Simpsons

Back in the day there were rumours he wasn't real.

He's actually released some books since leaving the show, heard they were alright.

In Homer Simpson in: "Kidney Trouble", the DVD commentary said that a Swartzelder gag in the script called for a man to just start digging a hole during the staged gunfight at Bloodbath Gulch ("THE FRIENDLIEST TOWN IN THE OLD WEST"). You can see it if you look at the background.

Well I went and watched the new simpsons episode after matt groening's "FACK YEW ESS JAY DOUBLEYEWS!" statement and....jesus fucking christ it is literally just fucking family guy without the occasionally amusing edgelord schtick or the writing quality.

Why cant cancerous nonmedy/normie media and SJW media just join hands and jump into a literal volcano together and rid humanity of this shit?!

Because that'd break the cycle, as much as I want to see shows like this and Big Bang Theory die already.

Maybe that's what the TV the proles of Oceania watch is like.

So what was the episode like?
Abe's on his deathbed after events that caused Homer to sell his car to a demolition derby driver (don't ask, but it ends in a heart attack and a Barrack Obama pun). He tells his son something he did long ago revolving Mona and Homer's relationship over baking pies and the recipes that came from them. He survives and Homer regrets this, and tells his family. The episode ends with them going to a diner and the waitress/owner gives the recipes back to Homer after finding out how much they meant to him.

Oh, and they make a couple NCIS jokes and about how long its been going. And Homer somehow found time to install glass blockers in Marge's car.

You know what's sad about this? One of my favorite episodes is from season 10, Maximum Homerdrive. The Marge and Lisa story was actually funny; while Bart and Homer were off truck-driving, they were installing a new doorbell. There was an underlying joke under all of it; Marge exclaims that now that the guys are gone they can do something exciting, and they end up doing something really mundane. You got the sense that Marge was a really boring person that buying doorbells was exciting for her. And we got some solid jokes from it as well (the Jehovah's Witnesses suddenly realizing they're just annoying people and giving up is one of my favorites).

This is that without that self-awareness. It's like they took a really mundane subplot and put it at face value instead of saying, "Yeah, even we know this is dumb."

I'm just picturing him like the Sam Simon portrayal from the 138th Episode Spectacular.

So, did anyone else here see the Sunday, May 6th, 2018 episode of The Simpsons?

There was a brief vision of Edna Krabappel that spoke a single line; considering that Marcia Wallace has been dead going on five years now, that was a little odd. I wonder whether it was an outake from one of her final episodes, a line used within one of those same episodes that I don't remember offhand, or possibly even a synthesized version of her voice, since computers can now easily extract phonemes from clips of her voices and recombine them into new lines? Or it could just have been a very good impersonator, I suppose. She's dead in-universe, so I don't think this will be a regular thing, but maybe her estate gave Gracie Films permission to say one more thing just this once.

Speaking of dead guy cameos, Adam West is still showing up on new episodes of Family Guy, though, in that case, I get the impression that Adam West knew the end was coming soon and he probably recorded a lot of brief appearances over his final few months to be used posthumously.

Yeah, it was another sweet episode. Less sterile than the last one, but appreciated, and an actual laugh with the Roadside Qur'ans gag..

And Bart now has a new teacher, Flanders.

Well, Wallace is credited, so it may have been an outtake, cause it doesn't sound like anything she'd have said in the show prior to her death.
