Then why focus on Homer? The slow-witted ADULT who's a terrible role model?
Bart did obnoxious things that kids could (and often did) imitate. I know my friends and I were inspired to make epic prank calls. Besides the local taverns, we hit "Bruce Lee" and "Sadham Husseini" pretty hard.

Homer was just dumb dad to kids. Nothing that they could imitate really except saying "D'oh!"

Well, they could always strangle each other.

When I was a kid I found someone in the phonebook under James T. Kirk. I called him up and played clips of Scotty yelling about how the shields won't hold and how one more hit and we're done for while the red alert alarm blared.

Apparently lots of people have prank called him, but I was the first to use sound effects. Or at least that's what he said before he hung up.

Now that you mentioned it, we I did that too. I had the Star Trek sound effects cassette tape. Sadly, my guy was a mere James R. Kirk, but we had to make due.

"That's the problem with being middle class. Anybody who really cares will abandon you for those who need it more.

I wonder since this season had a lot of bad musical numbers, I wonder if the writing team consisted of Theatre kids who did not get anywhere

How many times has The Simpsons blamed FOX News or anything FOX related since their inception? I always used to think they did that to cover up the mediocre script writing in the later seasons.

I think someone even brought up the fact that current day Tucker Carlson averages more viewers in the millions that compared to a Disney owned Simpsons episode.

It would've been seen as biting the hand humor back when the show was largely owned by Fox themselves. Now that it's owned by Disney, it comes off as strangely petty.

As someone else pointed out, The Simpsons had been throwing shade at FOX and making jokes about them since its inception, they more or less perfected that sort of "biting the hand" humor that Married With Children helped pioneer.

Now it really is just partisan and petty.

I think before they did it for both political reasons and to look more edgy by badmouthing the channel they air on.

But nowadays, it just feels like desperation to look cool and hip as though it isn't part of establishment stuff (Fox itself is very establishment but the Simpsons political shit is to make the show look edgy and taking a stance against the system).

Indeed but wouldn't be ironic if and when karma come to bite back the Simpsons?

I love how the whole BIllie and Lisa scene has become essentially a meme, almost like a wakeup call to everyone not in the know aboot just how much the show has deteriorated.

During the seasons anyone actually gives a damn about The Simpsons did a fair number of silly jokes about The Fox Network. But these were pretty tongue and cheek and in my opinion well deserved mockery. While the 90s Fox Network is well remembered for giving us all time classics The Simpsons, Married... with Children, and The X-Files it was also known for being a network that resorted to trashy entertainment. Fox was the home of the first great reality show Cops, where viewers could voyeuristically see the police doing their most exciting work of beating the shit out of criminals and arresting druggies. As for Fox News, The Simpsons didn't take any jabs until way late into the GWB to Early Obama years.

I know it's not worth getting mad about but god last week's simpsons episode really gets worse the more I think about it, like it really shows how bad modern simpsons is.

Like in the songs they had Carl randomly point out how a thing is racist, which like yeah I get that but just pointing out a bad thing isn't funny or does nothing. Honestly the comments on the video of the song is really bad

I love the reaction to the "though still pretty racist" line. It acknowledges that the country was an amazing place full of opportunity while also acknowledging one of the issues that we American's would often rather not speak about. I wish more people could do that and respect the legacy of America while also pointing out its flaws instead of doing one or the other.

I know people are saying that this is poor or pandering and I do not find Simpsons as good... but the fact is the world has changed a great deal over this century. It is a very different world. The humour of early Simpsons, the both sides are the same of Citizen Kang, no longer really works. To be honest if people are getting more angry over a bit in a piece of media then the issues it is addressing like this then they have some odd priorities. Personally I think it's a decent enough song, summing up some history.

Like I partially disagree with the last one since that song was not even written by Hugh Jackman, who sounds like he's doing his best with the material given, but still it's true that the Simpsons really exists to stroke celebrity egos off even these comments point out the issues

The Simpsons has become another SNL—a piece of legacy media that used to speak to average people and be hilarious, but now it’s just an outlet for celebrities to stroke each other off (like the Oscars).

Sure glad that I got a lecture about the decline of the American middle class from a studio that outsourced their animation to Korea, sung by a millionaire from Australia, owned by a company that gave the world Fox News. Did I get that right?

Like the issues presented in the song is true to some extent but to blame it all solely on "REEEEEEE FOX NEWS AND REPUBLICANS" is a gross simplification, especially since its the safe message without blaming corporations like the ones who conveniently own the Simpsons. But if anyone wants to listen to these shit songs here you go
