I stopped watching around the time the movie came out, although I still like to keep up on the show to see what new depths can be plunged. Some people were noting a few pages back just how uncreative the new writers are. God knows how long ago the episode was now, but I remember seeing their satire of Apple, and it is just so unbelievably lazy and obvious. Like in the classic shows, you had characters/products/companies which were stand-ins for things in the real world, e.g krusty burger = macdonalds, roger myers = walt disney, and that was fertile ground for parody, but they at least had their own unique spin on things so they blended seamlessly into Springfield.
Changing apple and steve jobs to mapple and steve mobbs is just.. nothing. it's not satire, it's apple with one different letter. And as for the jokes, it was stuff like lol expensive and lol hipsters. anyone could make those jokes, and have. If itchy & scratchy never existed and nu-simpsons had to introduce a cartoon for the kids to watch, it would be called Ricky Mouse, created by Bolt Lisney or some other low-effort shite. I mean christ, I remember hearing stories about the old simpsons writers rooms where they would spend hours coming up with a sign gag that is on the screen for a couple of seconds. How long did the writer's room take to come up with fucking Mapple?

I think what I'm trying to say is new simpsons bad old simpsons good

Well in your what if for how Nu-simpsons would introduce stuff, you forgot to mention how they'd get someone like Amber Heard and sing her praises because celebrity, or have some musical number about corporations bad despite the pride in being owned by Disney which will be addressed by a nudge to give a false sense of self awareness.

The worst part is you know there's worse episodes still to come.
Yep, still at least two more seasons until Disney decides to keep it going or not.

Given that the last six episodes each earned less than a million views, I'm not sure if Disney wants to keep the charade going anymore.

Remember the Funtendo Zii???

I was just going through my DVD collection, deciding what to keep, when I came across The Simpsons season 5 and watched it. My god, this show really was funny and enjoyable back in the day. One of my favorite episodes was “Marge on the Lam”. Wiggum and Homer being saved by a giant pile of trash and laughing about climate change activists was just perfect, no matter what year you happen to be watching it in.

"it's a GHOST CAR"

Here's how I rank all the seasons:

SEASONS 1-9: THE GOLDEN AGE
SEASONS 10-13: THE SILVER AGE
SEASONS 14-16: THE BRONZE AGE
SEASONS 17-19: THE COPPER AGE
SEASONS 20+: THE DARK EON aka
"ZOMBIE SIMPSONS"

There are a few episodes from season 20 that are actually holdovers with the season 19 production code but technically when they switch to HD that's was my cut off point from the show.

Holy shit, just realized the last time I sat down to watch a new episode was Lisa the Drama Queen - 13 years ago. I thought it was stupid and The Simpsons had run out of steam then. Clearly I follow this thread so I know just how much worse it’s declined since then, but I really can’t understand how it still draws an audience, even if that audience is just hate watching at this point. Take the show off life support and let it die already

As an avid fan of the classic years, last fall I made an attempt to watch every extant episode in chronological order (mostly just having them on passively while I worked or did chores). I wanted to see for myself what it was like. "Surely it can't be as bad as I think," I foolishly thought.

I was partially right because it was fucking worse. Seasons 11-20ish were passable with some bright spots, if not the heights of glory of the earlier seasons, but the quality dropoff after that was just unbelievable. The lazy, unfunny, self-righteous writing, unimaginative plots and recycled gags... I had to quit shortly after Holidays of Future Past, somewhere around season 26 or so. It's truly irredeemable and basically unwatchable now. I don't understand how it's still profitable unless most people in this country are even dumber than the farms already suspects.

It might be esls and old people idk

I know it's not worth getting mad about but god last week's simpsons episode really gets worse the more I think about it, like it really shows how bad modern simpsons is.

Like in the songs they had Carl randomly point out how a thing is racist, which like yeah I get that but just pointing out a bad thing isn't funny or does nothing. Honestly the comments on the video of the song is really bad

Like I partially disagree with the last one since that song was not even written by Hugh Jackman, who sounds like he's doing his best with the material given, but still it's true that the Simpsons really exists to stroke celebrity egos off even these comments point out the issues

Like the issues presented in the song is true to some extent but to blame it all solely on "REEEEEEE FOX NEWS AND REPUBLICANS" is a gross simplification, especially since its the safe message without blaming corporations like the ones who conveniently own the Simpsons. But if anyone wants to listen to these shit songs here you go

Simpsons Political Satire When It Was Good
It's mocking the cold industrialists of the earliest 20th Century who were frankly shrewd bastards who didn’t give a shit about their poorly paid workers who if they didn't die of an accident would get fucking cancer later on. But it also mocks the corrupted union heads.

You watch that today and it's still relevant as ever, simply replace Japanese with the Chinese. In 50 years this gay musical will be forgotten like the rest of Zombie Simpsons.

Honestly for me what signaled the beginning of the end for the Simpsons was the movie. I genuinely didn't like it. Some of it felt like classic Simpsons, such as Albert Brooks as the insane EPA director.
"Sir, I'm afraid you've gone mad with power."
"Of course I have! Have you ever tried going mad without power? It's boring, no one listens to you."
That was literally the only joke in the entire movie that got a genuine laugh out of me and his whole performance was perfect in the role. That, at least felt like it had the classic Simpsons touch to it.

But the rest of it? Fucking stinksville. Everything from the overarching plot of Homer and his pigshit wrecking Springfield, the giant dome, the nuclear bombing, it all just felt so fucking meh to me. And a lot of the subplots, like Bart drinking and Lisa's inexplicably Irish love interest, were just completely uninteresting to me and I wanted them to resolve faster so they'd go away. The part where they went to Alaska was when I really started cringing.

The old Eskimo lady swinging her boobs around wasn't funny. The orchestral version of Spider-Pig was groanworthy and had me nearly cringing out my spine. Spider-Pig itself was an unfunny joke that too many people tried to force to exist longer than it ever should have. The joke about showing Bart's penis was just fucking juvenile and you could tell they were trying as hard as possible in some places to go beyond the show's normal humor and into Family Guy territory.

The entire thing was a massive letdown and it really feels like it would be representative of what The Simpsons would become. Mostly unfunny with the occasional chuckle and you wish it would just fucking end.
