Are they? Are they invoking Godwin? After the past six months?

Her Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts are full of of people insisting she back out, with, let’s just say, varying levels of politeness.

That's a pretty apathetic way to talk about a teenage girl getting harassed and cyberbullied. I thought the Mary Sue hated that kind of behavior. Guess it's okay since the target doesn't despise Trump.

Speak of the devil-- they still think that women need their voices heard in the media, figuratively and literally.

In no way is it acceptable to harass a teenaged girl online. I would hope that goes without saying, but obviously it doesn’t. But it’s also ridiculous to think that performing at a celebration of any politician, let alone the most dangerous, scandal-ridden, anti-woman, anti-immigrant president we’ve seen, possibly ever, has nothing to do with politics.

Given how wrapped up in politics TMS has gotten, I decided to see how far the obsession has gotten. So for fun I counted the articles from February 11th to the 8th to see how many political/SJW articles there were compared to geek ones. Out of the 40 articles, 17 were political/SJW, 19 were geek and 4 of them didn't fall into either. It's sad how close this is.

Politics is exactly the point of TMS. Their very name is them "reclaiming" what they think is a deliberately sexist term.

How is the term "Mary Sue" sexist when the male equivalent "Gary Stu" exists?

"Gary Stu" is a masculinization of the term Mary Sue, which came first. The term originally came from some dumb self-insert Star Trek fan fic from the fucking 70s which was in itself making fun of overpowered self-insert fan fiction characters.

They actually did write a long article on why it's a sexist term. Their main point is the "Mary Sue" complaint is almost exclusively levied at female main characters while male characters rarely ever get that sort of treatment. The moment a female MC displays any level of competence on par with a male MC in a similar work, the stormweenie hordes immediately shout Mary Sue.

Honestly this is like the one opinion this idiotic rag has ever espoused with which I'm actually inclined to agree. Yes, while there are terms like "Gary Stu" I find internet communities judge female characters in genre fiction far harsher than male characters.

It's probably because male characters are typically written so that they're better at the things men are likely to be better at, and because their vocation in-universe explains their skill set.

-In this article about the new direction of Playboy, it's kind of sad how much the magazine is bowing down to the feminists. I have to agree with The Amazing Atheist (despite being a lolcow) about why is it feminists are all about free the nipple and getting naked for photoshoots, yet throw a tantrum when they see a scantly-clad fictional woman. I think part of it is that they can't stand to see a man have something that appeals to them. Especially how disgusted the commenters get about CIShet white men.

-Sure there are more LGBT+ characters in Geekdom, but wahhhh, it's still not enough. The reason there will be more white characters is because POCs are usually less than 20% of the US state. It won't be 60% like you guys want and that doesn't mean you can get all pissy and grossed out because CIShet white people exist. Same goes for trans characters and gays (who will not be 40%). I'm all for putting them in, but there's such a bratty, whiny air to it that it seems no fun to put in one in.

That's because nothing is ever good enough for them. You could have an all-lesbian cast, with no white characters, half of them are trans, and all of them need to go on a diet, and they'll still be bitching. They'll be too pretty, too thin, not enough trans representation, not enough racial representation, someone is too white looking, a particular mixed race combination wasn't included, their outfits are too sexy, they're not sexy enough, what about disabled representation. And so on. It will always be problematic.
