The thing with Harley is that she is a complicated character, pitiable but also competent in some regards and very charismatic most of the times, but people cannot simply erase her flaws and treat her as some idealistic flawless Mary Sue role model like they do with Black Widow or Rey from Star Wars, that's not Harley then. Most of her actions should not be seen as admirable, tbh.
I've gotten in so many arguments with Harley Quinn fans who think that she's a good person.

And don't get me started on the spergs raging about how she's too "sexualized" in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.

Sexualization is the whole point of the character.

Sexualization is the whole point of the character.

I'm more surprised more fans of her doesn't realize that. She is a funny and sympathic character (if you disconnect yourself in overthinking her actions ) but I doubt Dini or Timm tought about her more than " Joker's sexy assistant" when she debuted.

Hell, a character like this would be considered deeply "problematic" if created today to the mass media audience.

Harley tends to jump between sympathetic tragic abuse victim/quirky comedic relief character and anti-hero/anti-villain. She actually pretty hard to write for and anybody who actually pays attention would know that you're talking about someone who has engaged in unforgivable crimes such as the abduction and torture of a child and mass murder.
Has any writer other than Paul Dini truly understood Harley?

The Mary sue is on the warpath for the shitty ghostbusters reboot

It's weird how they effectively turn into a section of the films PR branch if it stars girl-usually you have to pay off the media for that kind of thing. Pretty much any remake in recent history with the exception of the wicker man gets the thumbs up of the original cast even if it is a stinker/flop (evil dead, nightmare on elm street etc) so anyone with half a brain knows Dan's 'approval' doesnt mean shit. Thomas Rothman's involved so it's gonna suck.
If they shat all over it it'd probably do more for women's in counter culture because it'd give them some credibility when they do back something, it'd also distance their political attitudes from a film which seems likely to bomb or at very least a suck .

For the record, James Cameron praised Terminator Genisys and look how that turned out.

Shitting on a associated movie publicly before release is a big no-no if you want to still have a career afterwards, the only person who I've seen get away with it is Christopher Lee about the wicker man and he already had a 40 odd year career in the industry and spent world war 2 stabbing Nazi's, so was not the sort to give a single fuck or to be fucked with.

They do know that just because he praises it doesn't mean it's OK, right? Aykroyd made Blues Brothers 2000, after all.

I guess even the MarySue couldn't claim with a straight face that (some) people don't believe her because she is a womyn... and there is no point in claiming that people don't believe her cause Johnny Depp is rich and popular because those (actual) privileges don't rank very high in the middle/upper class SJW world... and Heard is not black, native american, gay, trans or whatever...

So I guess a writer has to work with what she's got right?

Why in God's name is the website called the Mary Sue? The SJWs never complain when a name used to describe an impossibly perfect woman in writing (which I imagine they would take to be offensive?) is used as the title for their OWN DAMN HANGOUT. Or is it some sort of ego-stroking thing?

My guess is it's a 'taking back the phrase' thing.

I imagine it's intended as ironic, but it really just reminds you that the site itself as actually aptly named after a shitty, badly written character that is treated like a sacred cow for no good reason.
