Over a year ago The Mary Sue took the heroic stand of no longer writing about Game of Thrones because it uses rape as a plot device.

Well they made it just over a year.

The first half of the roundtable is them all coming up with excuses as to why they are watching the show now when they swore it off forever a year ago.

Nothing screams strong independent woman like the inability to stop watching a cable TV show.

They probably crawled back to watching the show after somebody mumbled "strong wymmen killing men" and "dah lesbians".

Either way these people just have this nasty habit of "hate watching", which is beyond autistic tbh. They also prowl around tumblr and i don't get- why do you watch a show that you know will make you angry?

The review of ID4 is funny because the cast is diverse as fuck and they still hated it. In fact they're annoyed the gay couple arnt gay enough, apparently they didnt get the memo that watching two out of shape men in their early fifties make out isnt what people signed up for when they bought the ticket.
What diversity it is when all movies are going to have the same "diverse cast" with supah strong womyn, at least two PoC, homo couple, subplot that is metap[hor of tranny issues etc? It's like checklist and if you don't have one thing from this list you are racist/sexist/people are going to boycott movie.
Isn't real diversity when, yes, some movies have that kind of cast, but some are more "traditional"? Some have fully black cast and some are about mostly white people? Not every movie or TV series have to represent gay couple?
What happens now is madness and fad. "We gonna have first gay/lesbian/trans/whatever in blockbuster, we will be part of film history". "It's what sell now, so we represent!".

Thematically and style wise both independence days have an overarching theme of the brotherhood of man and our capacity to be great. Both casts are culturally and racially diverse, it's pretty much the poster child for what they say they want.
The 2nd film under performed in America so Mary sue might want to avoid the inference that the narrative of diversity=good product is bullshit. More likely it's due to the fact that it wont draw in those sexy sexy clicks like their sudden change of heart about game of thrones.
I'm curious to see how they'll react with Ghostbusters if the movie sucks and or bombs.

They will blame everyone but the studio, director and cast.

I expect a headline like: "the world was not ready for Ghostbusters 2016"

My non-existant desire to see this movie just got even more non-existant.

Assuming this review is accurate (which given the behavior of the director it probably is), if I wanted to see a bunch of ~totally awesome grrrlpower~ defeating a straw man in a shitty, gimicky reboot I'd just watch the new Powerpuff Girls or some shit.

I'd love something with a team of female action heroes that isn't just a shallow, preachy gimmick.

Dream on. The way things are today it's a pipe dream.
