Steam by itself doesn't, as far as it's concerned you can sell any random .Exe as long as it's not malware. SteamWorks on the other hand does require something called steamDRM but it's by valve's own admission not very strong. I actually really like their recommendation and wish more devs listened to it instead of adding Denuvo.
Just to clarify. I am not disputing whether Steam mandates DRM or not. It is simply a fact that ~96% of what is on the platform has some form of DRM, according to that wiki.

As much as I like people waking up to the drm menace I can't recall a time I was ever locked out of my steam account or library. I know people get hacked and all that but like their drm has never stopped me from playing a game before

whats the best linux distro after all the age verification shit? arch linux is having issues with malware in the aur so i would say its out of the game for now.
This is the most retarded fucking take. Shut up and go fucking home. Base Arch installs don't even include the AUR. You'd have to use a pacman-wrapper to even randomly install something from it. I'm tired of this stupid fucking misinformation about the AUR. If you have no fucking idea about Linux, Arch, or the AUR, please shut the fuck up and not spread your bullshit. Thanks.

-Source: 2000 Linux user, fuck you, I have forum accounts on gentoo/arch forums from 02. Shit's insane, and stupid, and spreading complete garbage about how shit works.

-EDIT: Also can fucking read and understand what the PKGBUILDs do, because I'm not a fucking knob.

ngl if you intend to use Arch without the AUR you might as well use a BSD because you won't have any of the good packages

Just use Mint

I mean, you're not wrong, but that's not the point.

The point is these retards online spewing shit they know nothing about causing fear everywhere. I'm tired of the stupid bullshit. I use Arch on my desktop, Debian on my homelab. I also use the AUR and have a few packages from it. But you know, I know how to read and I understand what I am installing and why I am installing it.

Shit is like we're having an influx of fucking retards who use AI google search summary to solve 99.9% of their issues with Linux. The AUR is not a bad thing, the AUR is not infested. The AUR stands for "Arch User Repository"... that means it's user added content, you're the retard for not reading what a script does before installing it. Doesn't mean AUR is the issue, the fucking retard running the script blindly, is clearly, the fucking retard.

Thanks. I do feel better. Also, if you're new to Linux, fucking use Ubuntu or Mint. Fuck off with this I'm jumping right into an advanced distro with no knowledge and/or know-how-the-fuck Linux works. Fuck.

i agree but the skids who do shit like put malware on the aur are getting more advanced every week, and supply chain attacks are getting more common
Then maybe you should, oh I don't know, fucking use the AUR like as-intended since it was created? Holy fuck. You can read every single pkgbuild, you can clearly see if funny shit is going on, stop blaming the AUR like that's the problem. You all are fucking wild.

i cant react with mati for some reason but read my post correctly before making an autistic rage responce

Do you?

If you really do, time your self. Keep track of how much time you spend reading every single pkgbuild

you can use some of the unofficial user repos to have an easier means of getting a more curated package list from the AUR. Chaotic-AUR is really good since they package all the packages you would reasonably want for any arch-based daily driving.

The big issue I have with the AUR was that its intention has long been overshadowed by its practical function.

The AUR is very much a dumping ground for packages that the Arch package maintainers refuse to touch but the users care enough to create build scripts for. That's exactly the way it's been operating since 2002.

I can appreciate using the AUR for critical packages: NVIDIA binary drivers, official Oracle Java SE, repacking proprietary DEB/RPMs for Arch, stuff like that. I can definitely get behind some necessary friction for legal/licensing reasons.

Y'know what I absolutely take exception to? Proton AG saying "we're working on an official Arch binary repository for ProtonVPN" for the last 4 years, and it's still a fucking build script maintained by some douchebag in the community. Brave flat-out pointing users to the AUR build script instead of just providing an official, signed binary package repository.

This wouldn't be such a problem if the Arch packaging team were more willing to expand their repos. God only knows that they're not the same tight-knit community of dorks and weirdos who post riced out Openbox screenshots like it's 2007 all over again. There's way more people, way more money coming in via donations and grants, etc etc. They merged community into extra, but they still haven't meaningfully expanded the extras repo to be comparable to RPM Fusion Free/Non-Free or Ubuntu Universe/Multiverse.

Y'know what else? They never fucking will because no one has any incentive to make proper, signed binary package repositories for Arch when the AUR is the best temporary stopgap there ever was.

I mean, yes, but this always seems to be an issue when it comes to any fucking Linux support from <insert company name>, maybe not so much the AUR.

This I don't fully understand now. I get there's gatekeepers for Arch, but the fact that there is a shit ton of packages which would greatly benefit from being included, but then again, Arch is KISS, so maybe it's a design feature.

Facts.

Native Instruments has had good Linux drivers for a long time. People bitching about audio on Linux are generally retarded or foreign. Windows is often worse, supposing support. From the context, without watching, I guess retarded.
On Linux, I can literally just plug in my 5.1 surround sound set via HDMI and it just works perfectly. No stupid bullshit about drivers not working, no stupid bullshit about some RealTek or other garbage not syncing. No stupid garbage about having to choose the "default output but the one that only has 1 input still is selected as the default output yet the one with every other thing is selected as 'secondary'".

I just click on "HDMI / DisplayPort 2" and I get 5.1 surround. Very nice. (On Ubuntu at least).

Install stupid packages, get stupid viruses. It's that easy.

Solidly said.

I certainly don't appreciate fucking dimwits like mister Parker who keep spreading this fucking bullshit around every single fucking week. "The AUR has been PWN'd", with this logic, Discord got pwn'd a million times over with its incredulous amount of scams with Mr. Beast and Mr. Musk giving out $1M in crypto. If you're dumb enough to fall for those scams, you're indeed dumb enough to fall for AUR RATs.

Yeah not sure who the fuck that regard is, but that's also why I'm annoyed to fuck-all. Everyone is acting like AUR is the fucking problem, no the problem are regards that don't understand what their system is doing and/or just blindly installing shit because some AI told them to do so.

You know, back in my day, I had to read, and understand what the fuck I was typing in my terminal and that's how I've come to gain all this elite h4x0r knowledge on Linux itself.

Blaming a fucking tool, for users incompetency is fucking wild. None of these "malware" attacks would be an issue, if people downloading and installing the PKGBUILDs just learnt to understand the fucking 20-30 lines in the file.

Stop blaming the tools for the users being fucking retarded. Tired of seeing this slop shit all over my feeds because people are fucking stupid to understand the real issue, which again, no idea how your brains don't put that together and still try and blame the AUR.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand a fucking PKGBUILD. Let alone all the retarded fucking tools people had to code/AI slop generate, for people to run their PKGBUILDs through for doing the exact fucking same thing your eyes can do.

Stop with the nonsense and fucking misinformation campaign, you all are fucking driving the community nuts.

This is distinct from professional audio. The usual "pro" audio stack on Linux uses JACK, though straight exclusive ALSA couplings are also seen. My mixing board presents as a standard USB audio device. My old Native Instruments Audio 8 DJ interface has specialized drivers for low latency and they were added either in the 90s or shortly thereafter. But yeah, we're not just talking audio, though PipeWire has saved us from shitty Poetteringware in the desktop world.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand a fucking PKGBUILD.
If you're using the AUR to the extent that you're auditing PKGBUILDs, I recommend Gentoo. ebuilds are even nicer.

Haha, fun fact, I have and did however use Gentoo for many of years starting in early 03. Pentium 3 stage 1 builds, all my gentoo boxes were stage 1, even on a PIII with 384MB of ram..
