All Operating System developers now have until January 1st, 2028 to implement Age Verification for all users.

This includes Windows, macOS, Linux, and every other Operating System (which has any form of Internet connectivity).

On July 31st, Illinois HB-5511 was signed into law by Governor Pritzker, which carries significant financial penalties for all OS developers (including non-profits and open source developers).

Smart TVs often get used for proxies for things such as PlayreadyProxy, so it'd be a net loss for piracy. All the other shit can go, though. Can't wait for me to have to scan my ID to use the fucking washing machine.

There is no "age verification", at least not yet. There may be an "age declaration" feature that may be included in distros in the future, but maybe not. If you are paranoid about this, don't install a systemd distro.

All of this shit is unenforceable, and there will be ageless versions of each distro that would come out the next week if any major distro implemented it.

As for Arch and the AUR, you can use Arch without it and install third-party stuff not in the main repos manually.

Oh I think part of the reason it's difficult is half of the system crafters keybinds are undefined even though they're on the GitHub. This is like an extremely cursed setup

Can you even ban AI contributions meaningfully? If I were an asshole, I could always ask the AI for help and pass it off as my own work. That being said, moral grandstanding is what's in with the soyim at the moment. The more you repeat the mantra of retarded shit like Remembering What Matters, Everybody's Human At The End, etc., the more you remove yourself from the burden of actual change and being responsible for something.

Firstly, it is possible to install a lot of stuff without third-party repos. You can literally download them as tarballs / zips and just stick them in /opt or in your home directory under ~/bin or ~/.local/bin

Secondly, there is quite a lot of good stuff in the core repos.

For the purposes of my current sperging the greater topic is entirely a red herring, I'll just answer in brief to be courteous: it isn't about catching every AI contribution without fault, its about setting a precedent that people who like to rely on the bot beyond their own skill and intuition in hand-crafting packages are unwelcome as contributors, i.e. the same way Gentoo or NetBSD do it. I won't comment more on that since it will derail the bigger point: FAGGOTS IN FREE SOFTWARE.

Like look at this shit, read these two mailing list posts and tell me I'm wrong. For context, the three players here are indieterminacy, the guy writing these emails, Gabber / Gabriel, the faggot that shit up the discussion ~2 weeks ago, and Greg Hogan, a disgruntled maintainer that criticized Gabriel's faggotry calling it "pulling a gabber". Im bitterly disappointment to read in a community forum the transposition of a person's name into a pejorative. A casual awareness of the seriousness where this occurs commonly should make it clear why such techniques are used sparingly.
Personally, as somebody who has made numerous faux pas (including bourne by positive intent towards people I admire and love), I find the accumulation of guilt and shame tiring (at least it usually deters /that specific/ failing from occurring again). However, Id prefer to suffer numerous things rather than use the wording I read within quotes - even if wrapped in irony -- the risk of harms is too great and disproportionate in these circumstances.
In a public forum, the context, motivations or inexactitudes from those words can have a life beyond the typing and original readers. More obviously, not only could it shake a target's dignity in ways serious but at a community level corrode hard fought courtesies.
You have no control over how others will internalise words expressed in frustration - unfortunately this requires either active self policing to avoid harm or the need to add clarifications where necessary.

From my perspective, I need to make it clear that I took an approach to try to minimize harm, though I had already regretted not taking more time to write my last communication. In this instance, to avoid being explicit to further distress Gabriel during what is a very awkward situation. (I can only hope that he has greater resilience regarding social pressures than I).
I have tried to understand both Gabriel's perspective better (revisiting GCD007 was illuminating), as well as the nuances concerning Guix's nubile governance (as was GCD001's parent governance document).
Bilateral communications have also helped.

While I had already concluded the need for pause, I would feel uncomfortable should today's stasis continue indefinitely (perhaps no rush is ideal given holidays).
People have their own reason for participating in community projects and volunteering.
For me, (indirect) coercive technologies and linguistics are something which (in a non mercenary context) would make either fight for or walk way. Given your feedback, should I take a stance to fight for human dignities it could be that my tone is tougher. This is unlikely to be because of any hardening at my end from writing tersely and explicitly but infact the practical reality that my vagueness and analogy have often emanated from a sense of charity.
@Gabriel, I hope you are doing well.

Hopefully you are able to differentiate between criticism and attacks and that those who disagree with you take greater offense towards those who causally use ad hominems as a means of control. Your abandoning Guix would likely be a greater less than were I to, given your history of efforts.
