It's not really something you can tell until you've interacted with people from other cultures (which most liberals that express this privileged mindset haven't). I think learning about other cultures is fascinating, but at the end of the day, these kinds of mindsets and social enforcement systems are fundamentally at odds with how American and western societies at large are set up. I've met/been friends with quite a few people from MENA/SEA countries that are sickened by this mindset, which is one of the reasons why they moved to the US and became citizens. But even with people from these countries that hate this rat-race scheming bullshit, it's fundamentally baked into their culture and has been for generations. So people that hate it that I've met and talked to, still feel some pangs of guilt that they're pariahs if they ever decided to go back to their home countries, especially if they converted to Christianity.
In Hinduism, your current material, physical and social conditions are determined by karma of your past lives, so accordingly a disabled dalit begger is in such a condition only because of his own deeds. It is a system that does not breed empathy but justifies greatest atrocities on others.
