That's why I'm enjoying the game so much. The game was clearly made on a shoestring budget compared to any current western studio's project, it's janky and flawed. Yet you can easily tell that the developers did care about what they were doing. It has a... SOVL, for lack a better descriptor, that the vast majority of big releases don't have, and nowadays you only really see in very few indie passion projects. That palpable care goes way above and beyond in making me overlook its shortcomings.im watching some cringe exposition segment on youtube, the kind of section where every other game would have you just staring at an animation of a character talking. this game's almost got the exact same thing going on except in this game the animation has the little old lady walking around and constantly making/breaking eye contact with you, so you have to follow them around and walk into their trail of cigarette smoke to engage with the thing they're saying
like, it's still cringe, i think the voice acting for aiden is bad, the execution is kind of mid, but it's the composition of the whole thing that's a cut above the rest. they understand blocking! my god, i can't recall the last game to bother to do that. you can excluse an inordinate amount the execution being rough around the edges as long as the core meat of the thing has a concept being executed that's not brainless slop
