You know what? When I get the comics, I'm going to do the review myself after all. I don't want to potentially lose my friend if it's as bad as I expect it to be.

I think the biggest thing is, above all else, that "I want to be a hero" bullshit.

You know who don't consider themselves to be self-glorifying heroes in real life? The heroes. Firemen, police, emergency service workers, guys in the army, they don't do what they do because they want to feel all fuzzy inside and crow about how they're awesome and shit, they do it because they know it's their job and even the everyday good deed do-er who rescues a cat from a tree for the little girl next door or basically every single little story printed in the Scouts in Action part of the Boys Life magazine. They do what they do because it's the right thing to do. No glory, no fame, it's basic human nature.

But GK? He's such a fucking coward that he makes Dwight from that one episode of "The Office" where he fakes the building being on fire look more heroic.

I'm gonna fess up here because this fact infuriates me in a very ween way - I'm Gilded. I tried pulling a Liquid in an attempt to rouse more content out of him, and my recent discussions with him have revealed to me that this isn't going to work.

Jay is a completely egotistical asshole, we all know this (things we all know being restated will probably be a recurring theme this post). But what else is he? Psychologically contradictory. He has himself backed into an infinite feedback loop that starts with him asking himself if what he's doing is wrong, goes to him solidly believing everyone else is in the wrong because it's okay to do what you want as long as you feel it's right/not wrong, and not only refuses to change, but he probably can't and never will.

He'll call himself a fighter any day of the week, then deny confrontation or arguing the same moment it rears its head into his view. Eleven times out of ten, he will not accept any kind of criticism regardless of how it's actually delivered to him. He'll cry and cry about how he doesn't like blunt criticism, but that's a lie on his part because he just doesn't like criticism period. That would break his fantasy and suggest he's not perfect, after all. All of his posts in response to any criticism are him doing the most fucking confounding mental gymnastics I've seen, topping even OPL. And like OPL, either he'll dance around the criticism with excuses and poorly-phrased essays, or just respond "thanks" and dismiss it forever.

In my foolish attempts to actually help him where he needed it, I've basically said "fuck it" and I'm resigning Gilded to just become a yesman to him and probably draw more MS Paint comics/thinly-veiled "I'm better than you" pictures aimed at him. Any attempts to help him should just not be made, and any attempts to possibly challenge his "power" will be met with him flopping over and letting you right on through.

Here's our latest Note conversation on dA. He didn't respond to the last one I sent, and it's guaranteed he probably never will.

I like your drawings

I agree with you all, he's definitely not going to change and his only motives for being a hero are selfish/narcissistic. I'm not going to lie, on a regular non-sweetheart/ween dA account I do criticize him a bit (not over the top but small jabs and legit criticisms) and he disregards all of it; he's apathetic in his response which says to me he's avoiding thinking about whether or not his actions are wrong and how they effect others. When I called him out on that time he commented on that girls journal about his bad day he seemed like he was avoiding confrontation and as though he wanted the conversation to be over. I think he's gotten to the point where he's in an "ignore it and it'll just disappear" mindset when it comes to how he sees himself and his relationship with others. No matter what he'll dodge criticism so that his hero fantasies remain untarnished.

Oh good you'll continue doing the comics, I like your art so yay :)

Exactly and it's sad that he doesn't see that.

I've really grown to like Persona 4 recently and a major reason is the main group's motivation. They want to find the guy responsible for the disappearances in their town not because they want to be heroes, but because they want to find out the truth and it's just the right thing to do. As opposed to the Aluminum Shithead who only wants the glory. :bleh:

That's the thing about being delusional: a nutcase can want to be a super awesome hero that everyone loves and no one hates, and any time people hate him is because they're just wrong or want to cause unfair trouble. We all would like to better ourselves, but usually so that we can enjoy life and people around us want to continue being around us. Goldie just wants to 'better himself' in a sense that he's better than everyone else, and people envy him or get breathless when he's in their presence. Goldie wants to be 'better' so that he can feel that no one will ever question him or criticize him. Instead of using himself as a good support start, he instead, as he put it, made his ego into a 'black hole' that is never satisfied and dumbly sucks up anything that comes within reach, neverending.

Like people have said in the past, Jay doesn't want to be a knight to help others and become a better person, he just wants to be the movie poster hero who gets the girl, gets the fans, and everyone loves him. What he doesn't understand is heroes are supposed to have flaws that they eventually fix through development, and accept that there are some things they cannot do. This is life. Time after time, Goldie says 'society' represses us from doing things that we like because he cannot admit that the things that turn him on have gone completely overboard and that he needs help. He is so insecure about being different that he'd rather become a multicolored spergfest like he has than go unnoticed, or feel unnoticed.

He finds no reason to go outside and make friends because his parents are the only ones that will worship the ground he walks on, and he knows that somewhere within his withered little soul. Goldie probably knows subconsciously that reality would tear him apart, and we helped make him realize that, possibly a LITTLE, and he hates it. He can't face the truth that he is a twiggy little dweeb with serious issues who will never be given actual respect or find people looking up to him, because changing himself to achieve that better person is too hard and it's much easier to hide in a house with a biased mother and keep safely tucked away in the Wild Web.
What are you talking about? Cleary the best characters are the ones that don't have any flaws to fix and don't develop because they start at their peak from the start of the comic. Would you rather have a character that struggles with some encounter and spends the entire comic over coming an obstacle or a hero that triumphs in the first page and can spend the rest of the comic playing vidya in his underwear and have sex and beat up kids. The 2nd one obviously. But seriously he just tries to pass off all his flaws as being different and special so he doesn't have to work on them because it makes him unique.

The saddest part is that for someone to be so consistently full of themselves at such a ridiculous scale just makes it all the more obvious that Goldie has major issues with himself and how he may have been treated. Now, I'm not sure he deserved it at the start, he may have just been an obnoxious brat from the beginning, but for someone to have to love themselves so much and act like a god among mortals means he didn't get enough love from others, or let his small flaws become this humongous from his extreme denial to just accept them and move on.

So we can't milk this cow as hard as OPL?

While sharing many similarities with Chris, Jay can not be brought to action in the same ways. He's somehow a much more coddled, much more delusional, and much more passive-but-still-pretty-damn-aggressive person comparatively. The only thing that has really gotten a reaction more than "mm, yeah" out of him was his misfortune with heartsweets, something that can only happen so many times. His love quest is infinitely important to him - literally moreso than almost any aspect of life.

EDIT:
People should check out this exchange I had with him too, it's more light on his ego.

The real irony of this all is that while GK fails at everything "epic" he has ever tried to do he has spawned the most epic thread on the lolcow forum that I've ever witnessed. He should be proud he finally achieved something epic.

...High five to another Persona fan.

W00t, I sense a persona club in the works. XD

I would figure it would be like bouncing a ball off a wall in dealing with him. The harder we'd throw the ball, the more it's going to bounce back in our faces as he's so deluded. Unless, of course, it was a sweetheart that we threw at him. Which may not work as well in the future seeing as how he's aware of the weens now. Is Lisa still real to him though?

I have to wonder about GK's parents if he's never been tested for autism. It makes you wonder if his family is really in denial about him. Not just his autism but really his personality. He seems to share pretty much everything with his parents and I wouldn't be surprised if a small bit about his kinks or other fucked up stuff came up in discussion before. I really wish we could get more information about his family life because I kind of get the feeling that they believe that if they keep helping him hit the basic milestones to adulthood then eventually he'll pick up momentum and not be so... him. His autism could just make him totally oblivious to the possibility that he's the black sheep in the family. I imagine his brother would have some stories to tell. Didn't someone say that GK and him took many of the same college courses? Like GK needed someone to keep tabs on him or possibly even help carry him through some classes. Imagine if you were GK's brother. You're pretty much attached to this mulleted kid who gets pampered by mom and then you have to even drag him along through college. That shit would make me bitter. Might explain why they aren't facebook friends but all of this is guesswork. It just feels like there's something off about his relationship with his family.

Meh, I didn't tell him who it was. Just that two different people pretended to be Lisa and the person 'playing' her currently was someone who's kind of known for her niceness.. and that she wasn't really interested in hurting him :P
