Sorry for swindling all that dough; shit happens, bro!

I've seen many claim that unless you're a big trusted developer/publisher Steam won't pay out your earnings until the end of the next month, though I don't know how true or accurate that is.
I can believe it.
Otherwise, in cases like this the company earns thousands through scams and when people inevitably ask for refunds, Valve would have to pay it? it would just make scamming more likely, because they scammers would be safe and can run off with the money.
More likely, Valve keeps the money on hold so they can pay the refunds, just in case.

But for big publishers it matters less because Valve can expect professionalism from Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc.

Russian gayme journos Belarusian YouTubers made a video with exclusive info about the game directly from ex-employees of Fntastic.
EDIT: text version
(Starts at 9:51).
Quick rundown:
Gotovtsev brothers, founders of Fntastic, had no concept or "idea" for their game: they just wanted to make something Triple-A.
Brothers had no idea how games are developed: they forced their developers to implement features in extremely short amount of time, sometimes copying stuff from games brothers just played.
Developers stayed in Fntastic because some of them wanted to have an AAA-game in their resume.
Gotovtsev brothers :optimistic:ly believed that their game will be big, that it will GOTY 12/10, etc, etc
Brothers fired devs they didn't like: they gave them impossible tasks with impossible deadlines just to make their dismissal "justified".
There were crunches, obviously. Developers were inexperienced, obviously.
The game was originally singleplayer until Gotovtsevs told the team that "The game is now MMO".
After brothers played Spider-Man, they told their team to make their map "brighter". The team had to scrap a finished map just to follow this order.
Burnout devs were "temporally fired" for 3 months. Obviously they weren't payed for this.
"I wanted here to do something, but forgot what. You should think what kind of problem is present here."
"This is something not Triple-A."
"Three things cannot be hidden - Sun, Moon and Truth"
- Quotes from brothers.
Gotovtsevs told the team to remake certain "cheap" assets to make them "more expensive", "look like something made by Apple".
The game had 5 (five) testers. They were given by their publisher in Autumn of this year.
Devs couldn't publish a hotfix because "streamers were streaming, we don't want their online to go down".
Gotovtsevs forced the team to update Unreal Engine from 5.1 to 5.2 two weeks before game's release date.
The team had 1 day to check the map for bugs, broken textures and other problems. When one of the brothers found a single issue by himself, he fired one of the developers.
Developers made a hotfix patch and wanted to release it on Monday, but brothers decided to close Fntastic on that day.
"Everything just works until Gotovtsevs interfere"
The studio had fans what were willing to test The Day Before, brothers allowed them to be jannies unpaid testers, but let them test Propnight, their different game, instead of TDB.
The studio, for some reason, also developed a Slack clone called Continent. Fortunately sanctions forced Slack to leave Russia, making their Continent actually useful, but unfortunately brothers decided to market Continent to English market instead of making a quick buck in Russian Federation.
Sory 4 bad engleesh k???? I'm not proofreading this bullshit.

Fntastic was a Singaporean company and ran by two brothers or something.
Russia has a lot of Mongols, especially in the east. The brothers could quite easily be Russian.

Worst of all, many of their devs were online interns. They slaved for months with nothing but a scammer's get-rich-quick scheme to show for it.

Online internships are terrible for learning, and few would be brave enough to put the Day After on their CV

And The Day Before will officially be a dead game, when the servers are shut down next month:

It doesn't look good for your game, when even Babylon's Fall lasted longer.
That is hilarious. I mean, damn.

According to the video @12345 posted, Steam is proactively refunding everyone who purchased this smoking Cleveland Steamer of a 'game'. I will give Valve full credit for doing so, but hoo boy...

Some modders are working on creating a cracked version of game, presumably to make changes and use on a private server:

And the game reaching 0 players online, was to be expected:

I understand why so many was enthusiastic about The Day Before back then. It reminds me of The Division and Days Gone. Its a shame it turned out the way it did. The game will never have met everybody's expectations but maybe modders could turn it into something that will be enjoyable enough that they would want to play it.
