The conservative case for reparations

California’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans has arrived at an estimate owed to the State’s Black residents: $569 billion.

The nine-person committee, led by State Attorney General Rob Bonta’s ’93 LAW ’98 Department of Justice, and created just one month before the Yale and Slavery Working Group in the fall of 2020, found that state discrimination practices in the mid-20th century have resulted in a debt of $223,000 to each Black Californian whose ancestors were in the United States in the 19th century.

Like most issues in our polarized political climate, the task force’s findings will preach to the choir of progressives already keen on the idea of reparations, while falling on the deaf ears of conservatives who will never hear about the task force’s work or, worse yet, form their opinions from what Tucker Carlson has to say. However, it should not be taken as given that progressives are for reparations and conservatives against. In fact, there are several arguments for reparations based on conservative principles.

The conservative identity of the modern Republican Party has its roots in the Reagan Era of the 1980s. At this time, family values, fiscal responsibility, private enterprise and limited government became the key tenets of conservatism and indispensable to conservatives. Each of these values is reflected in the task force’s report and forms the justification for reparations. The report describes how racist and discriminatory policies not only led to the degradation of Black familiesand hindered the growth of Black-owned businesses but created a massive wealth gap, which, rather than “trickling down,” has concentrated and compounded at the expense of African Americans.

Reparations are an attempt to correct the harm done by big and intrusive government destroying American families, crushing successful private businesses and restricting individual civil rights and liberties. The long and painful history of racism in this country has thrown a wrench in the social, political and economic progress of African Americans, and if reparations are the way to free African-Americans to reach their full potential, then even Reagan would agree that it is time to “turn the bull loose.”

Closing the racial wealth gap means money flows more easily through the economy, creating jobs, increasing productivity and expanding long-term growth. Reparations also repay massive government debt and will reduce government spending on welfare and assistance programs disproportionately used by African Americans because of past discrimination. If reparations cut government spending and prevent debt from being passed to future generations of Americans, then reparations are the epitome of fiscal responsibility.

Conservatives who value faith and the rule of law should celebrate California’s reparations efforts. They are the first in the nation to address this issue, attempting to repent from their original sin, and are guided by the Supreme Court’s 1883 interpretation of the 13th Amendment to abolish “all badges and incidents of slavery in the United States.”

The fact is, the racial disparities that still exist in the United States today represent a shameful badge of slavery that will stay with us only if we allow it. Conservative Republicans have made their opposition to reparations clear. But if Republicans wish to lay claim to the legacy of Lincoln — whose Republican Party is fundamentally different in ideology and base than the Republican Party of today — then they own America’s first attempts at reparations, and must embrace today’s efforts to do the same. So as California continues its efforts to examine its history and the legacy of slavery, the State Attorney General’s alma mater should continue its work with the Yale and Slavery Project and we all, regardless of political ideology, should see the merit in this bold undertaking. It will not only ensure, for the first time in our nation’s history, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all citizens, but equality of opportunity for any hard-working, law-abiding individual who wants a chance at the American Dream.

All I did was post a comment on an internet thread acknowledging that people were pretty racist back in the day, but I'm pretty sure your people have fought about six wars and conducted at least one ethnic cleansing because they're so mad about the Ottoman thing.

Probably not the example of 'stop seething' you should be pointing me to.
We did a lot of that! Because it was OUR LAND and expelling foreigners and kebab is a wholesome local tradition.
Maybe you should acknowledge that peoples should not be forced to associate under Nation Guard threat. Separate and find your own path.
As for slavery, just like it was the case for my us in Balkans, it was because of our failure to keep up with an expanding empire. In time, we did ally with other empires and put more resources into getting up to date, while sabotaging the enemy.
You want the blacks to go the same path? Best of luck lmao. Their racial group never scored any significant victories against other groups. For some reason, can't really figure out why.
Also, hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Fine, I'm for reparations. If you were a slave then you can have a million dollars.

How much longer before "The Conservative Case for Drag Queen Story Hour?"

I'm not much of a conservative, but here's the actual boiled down conservative case for reparations: Lol no. Cause it won't work, dumbass.

Which is why Reagan legalized no-fault divorce, raised taxes (as governor), amnestied 3 million illegals, and tripled the national debt.

Reagan's big feather is that he ushered the Soviet Empire to its grave. But was he conservative? He certainly talked like one.

California was never a slave state and the notion of slavery as an 'original American sin' is straight from Marx's poison pen (November 7, 1861, Die Presse).

Repentance without forgiveness is somewhere between self-flagellation and masturbation. It is a blatant (((inversion))) of the Gospel.

whose Republican Party is fundamentally different in ideology and base than the Republican Party of today — then they own America’s first attempts at reparations, and must embrace today’s efforts to do the same.
One way to ticket to Liberia sounds fair to me.

Yeah if they had the balls to be "inhumane" they might have done something like enslaving an entire race of human beings for two hundred years and then they'd never have racial tension in their country ever again because everyone would love each other and get along.
Well the Muslims did that and also made sure not to leave behind descendants of slaves. So yeah there's room to grow in that inhumanity.

No, they left plenty of descendants of slaves behind, they just allowed them to properly integrate into society instead of acting like a bunch of vicious, seething crackers and creating a rift so profound it still hasn't healed a century and a half later.

Marx also cheered on the US when they seized land from Mexico and from the Native Americans, as did Engels.

Both of them were very selective in their condemnation of racism or imperialism. Which isn't surprising when you realize that a truly principled stance against imperialism is impossible if you oppose concepts like private property or nationalism. Without one of those two things, preferably both, you cannot argue on why it's wrong to seize the means of production belonging to a different society or culture. Whether or not any society will be consistent in their beliefs and completely refrain from imposing their will on other countries is a different matter entirely, but the fact remains that opponents of communism can easily make a better case against imperialism or racism than they can.

But I digress.

Um, they castrated them so that's impossible. They did forcefully assimilate societies they invaded across the Middle East and North Africa if that's the proper integration you seek.

proper reparation would include deportation to Africa, I mean, if we really want to make things totally square.
What cultural heritage? They're African. And they will always be African which was clear to Lincoln and should be perfectly clear to everyone else by now.
As much as some of us think "Africa is a country", you'd have multitudes of Cameroonians, Nigerians, Gabonese, Congolese, etc., vehemently disagreeing with you on that one. American Blacks are American as hell in culture and behavior, as far as they're concerned, being generations removed from whichever land or tribe their ancestors hailed from...and who the fuck knows where they hailed from in the first place.

Simply put, we're stuck with our niggers. They've wormed their way into the American fabric like herpes after a raw pounding in a dirty cunt. Deportation is out of the question -- we'll just have a bunch of Liberias on our hands. You might have a few who'll voluntarily go back to the "motherland" but most niggers don't give a fuck and won't go unless forced at gunpoint.

Best solution for everyone involved is for someone to nut up, take the idea of reparations for niggers out back and double-tap it in the head, for good. No need to explain anything -- just say "No, we're not doing that. Fuck off if you don't like it." Aside from chimping out and burning down their own neighborhoods, what the fuck are they gonna do?

Number One problem in society in general? We don't know how or when to tell people "No." These people should be told "No." and to go hang if they can't deal with it.

OTOH, if we really wanted to be bastards, we'd dump all of our niggers in Haiti, blockade the surrounding seas and fortify the living fuck out of the land border so the DR doesn't get too pissed with us. They already have enough to deal with, as it is.

They castrated some of them for specific courtly and religious roles, but that wasn't even close to the majority. Plenty were used for military service, and they stood a pretty decent chance of emancipation if they survived. Another one of the major driving factors cited on the demand for slaves in the middle east was that masters kept manumitting the children of their slaves as a display of piety. The entire middle east is full of the descendants of slaves.

Great troll if you are implying the Middle East is full of descendants of BLACK slaves. They did have a lot of White slaves that probably make up some of their current population.

Retard, the point is that reparations are also for something that happened to no living person in America. If we really want to follow that chain of "logic," the only reasonable solution is to deport anyone who wants reparations. It is only fair. If you want to split hairs of specific region maybe send them back to the families of Nigerian and Dutch slavers specifically and let them deal with the problem.

Well the Sate took away property from people, so they should get reparation for that lost property.

Medieval Islamic trade routes were almost global, they had slaves from pretty much everywhere, dude.
