The conservative case for reparations

California’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans has arrived at an estimate owed to the State’s Black residents: $569 billion.

The nine-person committee, led by State Attorney General Rob Bonta’s ’93 LAW ’98 Department of Justice, and created just one month before the Yale and Slavery Working Group in the fall of 2020, found that state discrimination practices in the mid-20th century have resulted in a debt of $223,000 to each Black Californian whose ancestors were in the United States in the 19th century.

Like most issues in our polarized political climate, the task force’s findings will preach to the choir of progressives already keen on the idea of reparations, while falling on the deaf ears of conservatives who will never hear about the task force’s work or, worse yet, form their opinions from what Tucker Carlson has to say. However, it should not be taken as given that progressives are for reparations and conservatives against. In fact, there are several arguments for reparations based on conservative principles.

The conservative identity of the modern Republican Party has its roots in the Reagan Era of the 1980s. At this time, family values, fiscal responsibility, private enterprise and limited government became the key tenets of conservatism and indispensable to conservatives. Each of these values is reflected in the task force’s report and forms the justification for reparations. The report describes how racist and discriminatory policies not only led to the degradation of Black familiesand hindered the growth of Black-owned businesses but created a massive wealth gap, which, rather than “trickling down,” has concentrated and compounded at the expense of African Americans.

Reparations are an attempt to correct the harm done by big and intrusive government destroying American families, crushing successful private businesses and restricting individual civil rights and liberties. The long and painful history of racism in this country has thrown a wrench in the social, political and economic progress of African Americans, and if reparations are the way to free African-Americans to reach their full potential, then even Reagan would agree that it is time to “turn the bull loose.”

Closing the racial wealth gap means money flows more easily through the economy, creating jobs, increasing productivity and expanding long-term growth. Reparations also repay massive government debt and will reduce government spending on welfare and assistance programs disproportionately used by African Americans because of past discrimination. If reparations cut government spending and prevent debt from being passed to future generations of Americans, then reparations are the epitome of fiscal responsibility.

Conservatives who value faith and the rule of law should celebrate California’s reparations efforts. They are the first in the nation to address this issue, attempting to repent from their original sin, and are guided by the Supreme Court’s 1883 interpretation of the 13th Amendment to abolish “all badges and incidents of slavery in the United States.”

The fact is, the racial disparities that still exist in the United States today represent a shameful badge of slavery that will stay with us only if we allow it. Conservative Republicans have made their opposition to reparations clear. But if Republicans wish to lay claim to the legacy of Lincoln — whose Republican Party is fundamentally different in ideology and base than the Republican Party of today — then they own America’s first attempts at reparations, and must embrace today’s efforts to do the same. So as California continues its efforts to examine its history and the legacy of slavery, the State Attorney General’s alma mater should continue its work with the Yale and Slavery Project and we all, regardless of political ideology, should see the merit in this bold undertaking. It will not only ensure, for the first time in our nation’s history, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all citizens, but equality of opportunity for any hard-working, law-abiding individual who wants a chance at the American Dream.

The cost of damages that blacks as a whole have caused in white societies is pretty high. But honestly, I don't want to get anything from them; I'd rather they all just fuck off to Africa.

Oh, the article means we owe niggers cash? No lol.

The only way I'll ever agree with reparations is if it comes with a one way ticket back to Africa and permanently being barred from reentering the country.

My personal view on reparations is that it's only appropriate and effective if given to those directly harmed by the government's actions.

For example, the Japanese-Americans who were interned during ww2 were issued a formal apology and monetary reparations. This is because when this legislation was signed in 1988, many people who were kept in camps were still alive. They remembered being taken from their homes and having their constitutional rights violated. It was right to give these people reparations, which they used to buy back the homes and property they lost when they were forced to leave for the camps. They were able to use this money to rebuild their lives because many of these people had NOTHING when they were released from the camps.

For African Americans, there really isn't a way to give reparations, because you would have to genetically test every single US citizen to search for any black ancestry....which many people have. Then it comes down to percentage. What percentage of slave ancestry will you need to have to qualify for reparations? 90%? 30%? What about those with .05%? They still have black ancestors, even if it's half a percentage. Does that qualify someone to receive reparations even with a such little amount of blood? Someone will argue that it does and then will come the infighting over if someone is black enough to receive monetary compensation. It will get bloody very fast.

If anything, people involved in the civil rights movement who were documented to have their constitutional rights violated via unlawful jail time and assaults against their person are far more deserving of having some type of compensation. They actually did something with their lives, and often paid a terrible price for it, for the sake of their future children. This generation figures that burning down their own neighborhoods will somehow own the white man and thus deserves nothing. They won't invest this money in their future, they will simply blow it and then hold their hands out again, expecting more. When they don't get any more they'll just burn down their neighborhood again.

Remember, Lincoln's plan after freeing them was to ship them back. I can absolutely get behind that as a Conservative case for reparations. I'm all for giving them a sum of money and a one way ticket back to Africa, but that sum of money better only be for the slavery - none of this shit about anything after they were freed. That's actually probably an act of mercy. I think if that was included, they'd probably have to end up paying everybody else.
Hell, at that point we wouldn't even have to muddle around with finding out which families actually experienced slavery, I'd be fine with paying the one time fee under those terms.

An honest accounting would result in all niggers getting a bill.

California wasn't even a slave state. Did their task force notice that during their 'study?'

They literally want to give blacks money for spending so much time in prison. Imagine-- REPARATIONS for committing an absurd percentage of the crime for multiple generations, and being a constant drain on society.

No amount of money or affirmative action is ever going to "fix" the stations of black people in the United States. It's the same reason throwing gobs of money at urban school districts never works. It will never be enough, they'll squander or blow through it, then they'll all be back with their hands out in a year or two.

It's the victim mentality and intrinsic issues with their culture that is going to permanently cause them to be second class citizens. It's a truth that they refuse to consider let alone to acknowledge as a group, and as a result it's a fool's errand to even attempt to make things right with them. They blame society for all of their ills instead of taking any responsibility or holding each other accountable.

We're going to be in the year 2150 and having the same discussions and riots we've had since 1950 with regards to black people. It's an unbreakable cycle, and attempting to integrate them into US society post-Civil War was always doomed to failure.

Reparations? They're already paid to just exist and be fat retards and criminals. Try stealing under $950 worth of goods in Nigeria and you're getting your fucking hand chopped off.

How is it conservative to spend money on something pointless that just makes a very small sliver of the population feel good while everyone else gets put into debt. How do you think Reparations are going to get paid out? Either by force or the govt printing money. It's going to cost the state an enormous amount in dealing with the thousands of lawsuits related to it and it's going to dramatically raise inflation. It's easily one of the most unconservative things to do in principle.

I'm pretty conservative so let me run this down for you. If you are, today enslaved in America you SHOULD be paid reparations. The rest of you leeches can suck a fart out of my ass.

It is a tedious, inescapable truth that liberals cannot imitate conservatives. Jonathan Haidt, Moral Foundations, et cetera ad nauseam. And it's just sad that this liberal thinks any conservative would accept a report by the California Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans (CATFSDRPAA) as the basis for making policy.

I'd honestly be fine with "reparations" in the form of zero-interest, forgivable loans to black-owned businesses. However, I also know in the Current Year everything is so fucked up and corrupt it'd end up another useless morass of fraud and waste like the CARES Act.

Surprisingly (not really) no mention about Lyndon Johnson and his War on Poverty™, expansion of the welfare state, and civil reforms that brought about No-Fault Divorce.

"Something something, we'll have those niggers voting Democrat for the next 200 years." - (stooge of Israel and) President of the United States, Lyndon Johnson

Reagan would only turn the bull loose, because he'd erroneously think he was getting an equal deal; like how his amnesty in the 1980's was supposed to be a one-time thing and solidify the border and immigration policy. Big shock, Congress told him to pound sand the moment it went through. This would be a repeat of Reagan handing out billions of dollars to mush-mouthed darkies and expecting them to "become white" for lack of a better term, but get nothing more but suddenly rich people doing crime.

You only create jobs if you create a business; street hustlin' and dope dealin' isn't exactly a job that requires a staff of people, let alone be a long-term growth. As for the welfare state; it'd stave off the cost for a year or two, but not long enough for it to eventually be a net positive. Give it a year or two, then all the suddenly rich people would be back on assistance because they don't understand money management or budgeting; especially with all the Jordan's and Diamond Grills out there.

Did you just cite Original Sin? Try that shit with the descendants of the warlords who sold the slave's ancestors into bondage. Try that with the descendants of the West India Trading Company. Just because they wound up here, doesn't mean it's only the American ancestors and their descendants that get to be blamed. You propagandist fucking hack.

If you're gonna cite Lincoln, he tried to make things right. He gave slaves an option, stay or be returned to Africa, complete with a country where the laws mirror the US Constitution. The ones who went back carried on for a while, then started enslaving each other and the country (Liberia) went to shit. That was Lincoln, so if you're suggesting we repatriate all non-whites/non-natives, I'm fucking for it.

You do know what "forgivable" loans are, right? Its literally just tax payer funded reparations by another name because the banks will collect the "forgiveness" from the government since no nigger would ever pay it back.

The writer of the article can invoke the name of dead politicians all they want. Now with that line of logic bringing up the deceased established, let me invoke the image of dead soldiers.

Guess a few hundred thousand dead to "free" the black man didn't matter. Oh well, deo vindice.

This is a good point. The price has already been paid in blood, it doesn't need to be paid again in gold.

The money would be directly from the government, not a bank. That was the dumbass mistake the PPP program made.

I would like reparations for dealing with niggers and mandatory skill and intelligence tests just to make sure we don’t send the worthwhile ones back.

You're severely underestimating just how fucking gay the average conservative is.
