The conservative case for reparations

California’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparations Proposals for African Americans has arrived at an estimate owed to the State’s Black residents: $569 billion.

The nine-person committee, led by State Attorney General Rob Bonta’s ’93 LAW ’98 Department of Justice, and created just one month before the Yale and Slavery Working Group in the fall of 2020, found that state discrimination practices in the mid-20th century have resulted in a debt of $223,000 to each Black Californian whose ancestors were in the United States in the 19th century.

Like most issues in our polarized political climate, the task force’s findings will preach to the choir of progressives already keen on the idea of reparations, while falling on the deaf ears of conservatives who will never hear about the task force’s work or, worse yet, form their opinions from what Tucker Carlson has to say. However, it should not be taken as given that progressives are for reparations and conservatives against. In fact, there are several arguments for reparations based on conservative principles.

The conservative identity of the modern Republican Party has its roots in the Reagan Era of the 1980s. At this time, family values, fiscal responsibility, private enterprise and limited government became the key tenets of conservatism and indispensable to conservatives. Each of these values is reflected in the task force’s report and forms the justification for reparations. The report describes how racist and discriminatory policies not only led to the degradation of Black familiesand hindered the growth of Black-owned businesses but created a massive wealth gap, which, rather than “trickling down,” has concentrated and compounded at the expense of African Americans.

Reparations are an attempt to correct the harm done by big and intrusive government destroying American families, crushing successful private businesses and restricting individual civil rights and liberties. The long and painful history of racism in this country has thrown a wrench in the social, political and economic progress of African Americans, and if reparations are the way to free African-Americans to reach their full potential, then even Reagan would agree that it is time to “turn the bull loose.”

Closing the racial wealth gap means money flows more easily through the economy, creating jobs, increasing productivity and expanding long-term growth. Reparations also repay massive government debt and will reduce government spending on welfare and assistance programs disproportionately used by African Americans because of past discrimination. If reparations cut government spending and prevent debt from being passed to future generations of Americans, then reparations are the epitome of fiscal responsibility.

Conservatives who value faith and the rule of law should celebrate California’s reparations efforts. They are the first in the nation to address this issue, attempting to repent from their original sin, and are guided by the Supreme Court’s 1883 interpretation of the 13th Amendment to abolish “all badges and incidents of slavery in the United States.”

The fact is, the racial disparities that still exist in the United States today represent a shameful badge of slavery that will stay with us only if we allow it. Conservative Republicans have made their opposition to reparations clear. But if Republicans wish to lay claim to the legacy of Lincoln — whose Republican Party is fundamentally different in ideology and base than the Republican Party of today — then they own America’s first attempts at reparations, and must embrace today’s efforts to do the same. So as California continues its efforts to examine its history and the legacy of slavery, the State Attorney General’s alma mater should continue its work with the Yale and Slavery Project and we all, regardless of political ideology, should see the merit in this bold undertaking. It will not only ensure, for the first time in our nation’s history, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to all citizens, but equality of opportunity for any hard-working, law-abiding individual who wants a chance at the American Dream.

Then it would still be no different from giving them tax funded reparations. All your doing is adding extra steps.
In my plan the loans would be made with some due diligence before granting credit, but as I said it's unworkable these days. Black people in this country went through a lot of legitimately terrible shit and I don't have a problem with helping the ones who want to improve their communities through hard work and entrepreneurship.

Give it to them. Then pull all welfare, EBT, ANY government programs whatsoever from the recipients and their descendants, in perpetuity. No more preferential treatment anywhere - university admissions, jobs, government contracts, etc. You are now ON YOUR OWN, and when you squander all that cash back into the white man's pockets, well suck it up buttercup you are now finally EQUAL.

You want to make people resent blacks? Cause that’s how you get people to resent blacks. Especially when everyone else is already being taxed to death thanks to retarded leftist causes

Didn't Lincoln wanted to ship them back to Africa?
Lincoln was pretty heckin racist, but this is untrue. Lincoln wanted them to go to Africa voluntarily, because he did not believe that blacks and whites could ever coexist in America. The Liberian colonisation movement was largely motivated by ideas of black empowerment, and was spearheaded by many black community leaders and abolitionists. Most white people who supported it did so because they just sort of assumed seventh-generation slaves would want to go 'home' after being freed, and I'm not aware of any serious attempts by anyone to make it a forcible relocation.

Lincoln did disavow the movement later, when he realised how inhumane and unrealistic it was.

Sure thing, comrade! To get your reparations I just need you get in the back of this helicopter, along with your friends and neighbors. We just need to take a quick ride over to where the money is.

LMAOing at all the people that say that actual reparations involve shipping them all back to Africa. To the descendants of those that sold them into slavery in the first place.

Actual reparations would involve going to the various sub-Saharan African nations from them and extorting money out of them to pay to the blacks living here in America. Good luck with THAT.

Imagine being so shitty that having to live amongst your own kind is considered inhumane.
The transatlantic slave trade had been shut down sixty years beforehand, these people had been slaves in America for at least four or five generations, with their cultural heritage, religions and languages forcibly stripped from them. Africans stopped being "their own kind" long before the civil war.

And the "inhumane" part of it was what the Americans were doing to the native Liberians to make room for them.

It's not reparations. It's the modern version of Indulgences - sums of money paid by people who feel guilty of a crime and want absolution. It's what prompted Martin Luther to break from the Catholic Church.
Thing about OG indulgences is that you only had to buy them once. Its [the current year] though, so all those superstitious prohibitions on usury have been removed- now salvation cannot be bought, but it can be rented.

Modernity is so ficked it makes the Borgias look reasonable and abstemious by comparison.

This is what people don't get, blacks are far from being the group of people who had it worse than everybody else in this country. Consider by the same logic the natives: black people still have africa, still have black countries where they can move to and leave any remaining "oppression" from being in a country allegedly run by whites (as if there werent many minorities including blacks in the elites that fuck over everybody else below them).

However where are the native's countries? there isn't any anymore, the entire american continent was colonized, the vast majority of the native population dying from diseases brought by newcomers. A lot of the known history of those cultures has been lost or destroyed, and except for a handful of countries in south america natives are a minority in all other countries across the continent.

So again, who deserves the reparations more? the handful of already slaves who were resold, brought here and liberated 150 years ago? or the natives who got near exterminated and their homeland destroyed and occupied forever?

BTW I'm not an advocate for reparations I'm just arguing that of all the people fucked over in our history blacks are far from being the ones that deserve compensation.

What cultural heritage? They're African. And they will always be African which was clear to Lincoln and should be perfectly clear to everyone else by now.

And the "inhumane" part of it was what the Americans were doing to the native Liberians to make room for them.
Forcing Americans to have to live around blacks forever as they destroy their country and twerk on the ashes is much more inhumane.

I wonder if there's a "neoliberal case for crushing nogs & heebs/sending Blackrock into the sun/eviscerating hedonists/etc" or if this is all a one way street.

If Amerifats were "inhumane" back then when literally nobody sane gave a fuck, America would be a far less polarized, far less BLM pozzed, far more cohesive, far higher IQ, far richer place today.
Imagine crying about racism centuries ago.
Now, the reparations. Christ this will get people mad lmao.
I am OK with reparations, from Amerifat taxes, paid by the state, to blaqqqs, on the condition that NAACP and all other bleqqq grievance crap gets disbanded and all their racial organizing is disbanded. Future attempts at racial grievance politics should be put down by the state. Riots should be put down triple the amount. Looting quadruple.
The American state should buy bleqqq silence, now, and forever, and quell any chimpouts attempts in the future if the offer is accepted.
You should get zero pennies if you want to keep seething against mayos.

Yeah if they had the balls to be "inhumane" they might have done something like enslaving an entire race of human beings for two hundred years and then they'd never have racial tension in their country ever again because everyone would love each other and get along.

Oh, stop crying lmao.
My people were under Ottoman rule, raped, kidnapped, forcefully converted and more for like 500 years.
Nobody gives a shit. Grow up and stop seething.

All I did was post a comment on an internet thread acknowledging that people were pretty racist back in the day, but I'm pretty sure your people have fought about six wars and conducted at least one ethnic cleansing because they're so mad about the Ottoman thing.

Probably not the example of 'stop seething' you should be pointing me to.
