But mostly Uwe Boll, the man's a beast... Not a director, mind you, but a beast.

I'ma rattle some cages with this comment, but: Uwe Boll, like Michael Bay, is a good director. He just makes bad movies.

You've rattled my cage.

Define a 'good' director.

He's technically skillful at making the movies he makes. He has a successful career, and people pay to see them.

I saw Rampage a few years ago, I think right out of high school. It actually wasn't a bad movie on its own, and the lead actor did a great job.

My big problems with the film was that it relied very heavily on shaky cam, especially when the lead was running and gunning through town, which could make lesser people queasy and made it downright annoying for me to watch.

So...your point is he takes advantage of tax loopholes to finance his films and that people download them illegally? And what does that have to do with him being a good director?

The only reason his films get made is because of tax loopholes, thus negating the idea of 'successful'. He sued, or tried to sue, p2p clients because people downloaded his films illegally. That negates the idea that people 'pay' to see them.

As for 'good', well your opinion is your opinion but the consensus is that he's an objectively terrible director. I would say he's the Ed Wood of our time, but even Ed Wood's films had camp value. Uwe Boll's films have no value.

Nope.

Ha ha, nope.

I don't think "negate" means what you think it means.

From the OED:

Negate, verb (with obj.) 1 Make ineffective; nullify.

Nullify, verb, make legally null and void; invalidate

Now, you said Uwe Boll was successful, but he's not. His films lose tons of money and the only reason he gets to make more is because German investors can write them off as a tax deduction (see, The Producers). I'd have to ask by what standard you measure success. You said that people pay to see his films, but they don't. He tried to sue p2p clients because people downloaded his films for free. His film premières are basically empty. You said he's a good director, but even Michael Bay, who has no conception of the visual field as far as film-making is concerned, takes shots at him.

Of course, what this boils down to is that you like Uwe Boll and I, along with most of the rest of the world, don't. You could be trolling, I won't discount that possibility. But in any case, I think we'll end the discussion there before Hitler gets invoked.

I don't like Uwe Boll, I said he's a good director. I can tell that he's technically competent, even though I don't care for his films. You seem to think he's unique in using tax schemes. You should read up on Hollywood accounting; The Hobbit is a good example. If anything, the fact that he stands to gain money by suing thousands of people for uploading his films speaks to the demand that they have. The only thing interesting about this is that he as an individual is suing people over a particular movie; other filmmakers have had the MPAA do that for them. You think he's the only one to have his films pirated?

Re: The Coleslaw Smithey Thread

Yeah if producers keep hiring you as a director, you're a good director.

Don't know if someone has found this or not...

But assuming this is the real Coleslaw's facebook page, we now know what he and Chris have been tweeting about for the past year.

https://www.facebook.com/joseph.c.smith ... wse_search
That's not Coleslaw. The real Coleslaw wants nothing to do with Chris.

Idk Alec.... He sounds pompous and contemptuous enough to be Cole... we know that Chris has been tweeting Cole trying to guilt trip him into taking care of him and Barb. Presumably Cole responded. I don't think Cole completly hates/ doesn't care about Chris. He does not want him in his life true, but in the past has been willing to communicate via internet.

Also at bottom of the page he says his facebook is for friends only and asks people to stop contacting him about his brother. Still... could be a fake account.

Yeah it's fake

Everyone.

How dare you besmirch the name of Michael Bay. He made Bad Boys II. Uwe Boll, at his best, made Rampage. An average "OMG Guy goes on a public shooting" movie that pales in comparison to other flicks of the sort. Bay wins by a landslide.

Oh no, that's very obviously not Cole.

Re: The Coleslaw Smithey Thread

Coleslaw knows people look him up to troll Chris and wouldn't post stuff like that. He has only 5 friends and 1 picture, the writing style isn't like him, and the only interaction with Chris is sharing his status and commenting on them, not direct messages. It's just a shitty ween.

Cole wouldn't use facebook anyways. It's too mainstream.
