All the worst political points of today are starting to make this show shit apparently. Its too bad thos wasnt made by say, HBO back in 2008 when people legitimately knew and cared about dc over marvel. It would have played way closer to the original comics which are dated as fuck with its annoying liberal politics to the point where even the creator says the comics take place in 2006 because even he felt it was hilariously outdated. But at the very least the nazi would be as racist as possible.

As for the nazi having the same opinions as Joshua Moon, you had to have known this would happen. If the boys came out in 2014 she would be talking about "ethics in journalism" too. They have to have normies realize shes a nazi without doing anything blatantly racist. And according to the jews null loves so much, this place is even worse than stormfront.

Regardless of when this show came out she would have been used as a krugel aganist moderates like us, if the show was made in 2009
she would have been a fan of glen beck too.

This is going to be like stranger things, a first season everyone loved and than slowing getting more shit for the next 3+ seasons before they pull the plug. Just be lucky Karl has a steady income for once in his life

Compound V being used by civilians introduces all kinds of problems with the logic of the comic. If the Boys can get Compound V, why not the CIA or some other merc group to fight the superheroes? If it's so common that whores HAVE to use it in order to sustain the marathon fuck parties, why is it not more common in society if fucking prostitutes are using it? It introduces a lot of things that could of have been explored like vigilantes using it, kids using it like roids to be like their heroes, etc. But the comic just neglects such plot holes.

'The Boys' was really Ennis' decline as a writer for me. It had some interesting concepts, but Ennis got too overindulgent. Then he came out with the awful series crossed at the same time. Its not one of his better works, but the problem is the show is showing that in a really big way

In the comics (MASSIVE SPOILERS) The Boys are all dosed with compound V to fight the supes. I know the show won't have them having powers except the female. But it turns out that compound V was getting out into the wild and mass altering the human gene pool. In the comics, Butcher's wife was raped by a clone of Homelander and killed by her child. Butcher then has to beat it to death with a lamp. Its pretty graphic and makes him pretty unstable and isn't really played for laughs. She wasn't actually raped by Homelander himself, but by Black Noir who is a psychotic clone of Homelander. But this isn't the case in the show.

You do get the feeling he's always going to do something horrible and that's eventually what happens. Butcher himself cannot stand compound V and basically makes a super-weapon that will kill anything with a bit of compound V in it, including a ton of innocent people that just happen to be exposed to it by accident.

The Boys find this out and Butcher basically betrays them, killing all of them. Hughie is the one to eventually take down Butcher, because as bad as supes are, it isn't people's fault they're exposed to this compound. This is significant because it basically is Hughie's arc to go from this coward to this stomper who makes his own decisions. Without super-powers, he really kind of can't stand on his own two feet against Butcher.

It seems like they still want to go down this route, but there's a lot missing for it to really make sense. Which is why episodes 1-3 really fall flat.

Whoa whoa whoa.. not only did they make the Nazi that was cucked by Maeve a woman.. they also destroyed Butcher's primary hatred towards Homelander too? Without the rape of his wife by that guy, it kinda kills the man's desire to be where he is isn't it? He was pretty apathetic towards the supes before that shit happened. If they also got rid of the rape angle, did they still keep the photos of Homelander going apeshit eating a baby that the Boys were using to blackmail Homelander in to behaving?

Bullshit. She was raped by Homelander in the Amazon series. You invented your own facts & then complain about the series.

I've not read a lot of Ennis's work, maybe a fair representation, and "overindulgent" described all of it. But at least Crossed gave us Alan Moore's Crossed +100 and Beau Salt.

Also remember, the picture of Homelander eating a baby was 'Black Noir', who was driving Homelander insane because he was his clone. Part of the reason Black Noir raped Butcher's wife was to drive Homelander insane, because he had no idea he had an insane clone running around. So he started to believe he had this alternate psycho personality and was mentally breaking down because of it. Which made him more and more violent.

No, Homelander did rape his wife and they did have a son together (Homelander and Butcher's wife). However Butcher's wife is still alive, along with Homelander's son. And she is raising Homelander's son who she loves. So she's not dead in the series. Neither is their child.

So its kind of more complicated, but Butcher is more 'right' in this version and Hughie is more 'wrong', but the story tries to keep it the way it originally was, which doesn't really fit the current scenario as it makes Hughie look like a cunt. Nor does it really justify Butcher's scheme and the development of a bioweapon to kill anyone exposed to Compound V, including civilians. It also really breaks the dynamic that Hughie is Butcher's foil and his conscious and kind of stifles his growth.

Ennis Punisher run was basically extremely subdued compared to his later works. But its the point he started writing 'Crossed' and 'The Boys' that shit just got out of hand. You saw some hints of this with 'Preacher' and his hatred for religion. But 'The Boys' combined his hatred of Super Heroes with his hatred of religion and he just went off on a fucking tear. It got extreme and the art suffered a lot in places. Another reason why I switched to Manga is consistent art style. With a Mangaka, there's one style for the entire work. But for American comics, you can have multiple artists of varying quality. For example, the miniseries 'Herogasm' is fucking AWFULLY drawn. It looks like absolute dogshit. Like holy fuck is it UGLY. A lot of comics are like this and it makes them very difficult to read anymore. Having one artist and one voice, even if they aren't fully colored is perfectly fine. As long as there is consistency.

I tried reading Crossed 100+ and holy fuck was it annoying as shit. Please don't invent bullshit language that I have to decipher.

In the comic, Compound V was basically the equivalent of a chemical pollutant like Dioxin. It got released into the environment, which is why random superheroes 'spawned' into the world. It was developed in the 1940s and got completely out of control, and released into the wild. So millions of people were exposed to it in varying amounts. This lead to the propagation of super heroes both born of the contamination and made by Vought. The supes made by Vought were much more powerful (Homelander) than those randomly generated.

Basically in the comics, Compound V is equivalent to an environmental disaster. Its like those towns where people are getting cancer for no reason. But instead people are becoming superheroes. Just like those townspeople don't know what that chemical is, neither do the people in the world of 'The Boys'. But it is known by the CIA and Vought. And I think the CIA in the comics basically jacked it from Vaught themselves, they didn't develop it. I can't remember, but it was NOT easily accessible.

Being exposed to Compound V doesn't give you superpowers. Millions of people in the comics have been exposed to it but they don't have super powers. When they have kids, its possible that they do have super powers. This is why superheroes are a much bigger issue in the comics than in the series, because Vought has completely lost control of what and who they can produce as heroes. That's why there needed to be a unit dosed with Compound V putting them in their place. Because there were thousands upon thousands of untrained crazies running around with powers and Vaught had completely lost control. It would be WAY worse in the comics for Vought to get supes into the military, because they claim all superheroes as their product. Including the 'naturally' occurring ones.

The government is written as having been in bed with Vought since WWII and the only way they can keep the supes in check is a covert group who have been dosed with V (equivalent to Homelander and the stronger super heroes).

Its actually VERY different from the comics. The basic beats are there, but a lot of the nuance is really missing. Vaught in the comics is basically the incarnation of corporate maleficence and government corruption. Also Compound V was nowhere near as secret in the start as it was.

The 'Boys' not having super powers does add a layer of tension to the proceedings. But its still very different to how the comic works.

EDIT:
Also Ennis is doing a six book mini-series as a follow-up. Currently its on issue 4 of 6. I'll let you know, I'm actually re-reading the boys and I stand by my word it suffers too much from his edgy shit in certain places and would have been better played straight with a bit less comic relief.

Best season 2 episode so far? I think so.

At this point, I don't think Black Noir is Homelander's clone. The bullet Hughie shot went through his hand. That doesn't happen to Homelander

I think Black Noir might be Butcher's brother Lenny, or maybe a clone of Butcher himself.

Also, that sex scene lol.

I just finished season 1 and I'm starting season two. I should probably read this entire thread before I post this but the show is really disappointing. Somehow it feels so dated already. It touches on so many interesting topics but only goes deep on "edgy" topics from the early 2000's. Everytime it could be original in what the show explores it backs down to make some commentary that boils down to "religion bad" or "corporations bad". Maybe this was compelling originality whenever the comic was made but in 2019/2020 it feels old and tired. Nobody believes corporations are good now(idk if they ever did) and the "God's not real people" sperging is just annoyingly boring at this point in time.

The start of the second season has confirmed my fears that the first season was as good as it was(B- , B) due to the people developing it having so much time to work on it and the second season was going to be worse due to the drop in writing due to the shorter amount of time they would have to work on it. The first episode is full of manufactured drama between The Boys to create "conflict". I absolutely hate when writers have to write characters to be stupid to generate conflict and all of the boys and Starlight so far are being totally stupid and more importantly ignoring the first seasons character development to have bullshit drama that doesnt do anything else.

Anyway, does it get better? Am I missing something?

It's alright. I haven't read the comics, Homelander is really well acted.

Also, that sex scene lol

Sex scenes are always meh in my opinion but this was funny & I really liked it. Also I think both actors do a great job in general.

But I think Frenchie is fucking annoying. What is he even doing besides trying to get into Kimiko's pants? Also his voice sounds so whiny all the damn time. I'm interested where this whole Church Of The Collective thing with the Deep goes. I guess it's going to play a bigger role later since more & more people are getting indoctrinated. Still, every scene that lead to him becoming a member was boring as shit. I guess it's because it had nothing to do with anything besides the attack of the sea creatures later. I wanted to see more of the main story so every time The Deep appeared I was like "omg more of this annoying shit, not interested!"

The second season has 0 momentum. 1st season could be slow but they kept revealing new plot points and having new characters come in. Second season nothing matters. Their CIA lady gets killed, that's fine, they have a spare. Homelander makes like he's going to kill Starlight, then he backs off. A-train makes like he's going to expose Starlight, then he backs off. Rinse, repeat. 5 episodes in and barely anything has happened.

The character development stuff sucks the energy out of everything. The only parts I reliably enjoy are those involving Homelander and Stormfront - largely because I think the two actors are giving by far the most memorable performances. Some of the Butcher stuff can be alright, but it's much more hit and miss.

In the last episode we got two almost back-to-back character development and drama scenes between Annie and Mother's Milk in the first, and Annie and Hughie in the second. It was fucking agonisingly slow - I just didn't care.

Hughie and Annie are a particular kiss of death. Hearing their painful dialogue makes me wonder 'Is this what dates between two upper-middle class white normies in coastal US cities sound like?' Followed briefly by a flash of certainty that 'These characters would have watched every episode of Scrubs'.

World of Tanks is cashing in on the Boys by promoting some tank and crew.

It's alright. I haven't read the comics, Homelander is really well acted.

Anthony Star is the series' highlight, and when he's not on screen everyone should be asking where he is.

I said it earlier but he really gets physical acting - smiles without warmth, small gestures to make people uncomfortable without making it look deliberate, little twitches in his facial expressions, etc. I love Karl Urban but by god he feels misused in this by comparison.
