Homelander makes like he's going to kill Starlight, then he backs off

I actually like that Homelander tries to control his anger. In the new episode he fantasized about killing all the protesters but didn't do it. He is able to kill everyone (besides perhaps Stormfront) and they only live because he is able to control his urges. I expect him to snap & go on a rampage in a future episode.

The second season has 0 momentum. 1st season could be slow but they kept revealing new plot points and having new characters come in. Second season nothing matters. Their CIA lady gets killed, that's fine, they have a spare. Homelander makes like he's going to kill Starlight, then he backs off. A-train makes like he's going to expose Starlight, then he backs off. Rinse, repeat. 5 episodes in and barely anything has happened.
Amazon found their walking dead, which means grinding plot events down to a halt. The seasons more than half finished and if we're being honest the past 5 episodes could be cut down to two very great ones. Especially once you take out the subplots that go nowhere and the unnecessary characterization. The worst part is knowing this series will keep going for the next decade, and with how much they're diverging from the comics it will end up a Walking Dead situation where it goes in the dumbest direction possible because people will keep watching way after the honeymoon period ended. It doesnt help that Supernatural went on for 14 years and that guys working on this.

Eric Kripke left Supernatural after season five, with that season's finale being an unofficial ending to the series for a lot of people (and it works well enough, if you ignore the very final scene).

Anyway, they went full race war in the latest episode, throwing any subtlety out the window with that final scene.

EDIT:
The Walking Dead comparison might even be more apt now. They're fast-tracking a spin-off.

Set at America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes (and run by Vought International), the Untitled Boys Spinoff is described as an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games — with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys.

Pass.

What the fuck are they even doing with Starlight's writing? I mean I get that's she's become cynical and increasingly ruthless but she went from blackmailing some sick fuck to outright killing a completely innocent guy and did not give even a single fuck about it.

Yeah not even the slightest bit of nuance there, I kept hoping Homelander would just roll his eyes and slap her head off.
At least they didn't go with the theory I'd seen going around that Stormfront was his real mother.

Did she actually kill him? When she checked his pulse she seemed relieved... but then there's the pool of blood coming out of his head, and the fact that she doesn't seem to react one way or the other. I had no clue what they were going for in regards to Starlight's character in that scene.

Frenchie's sob story about the gay friend dying from od'ing doesn't move me AT ALL. He comes back to help his gay friend get over his problem and they have the gall to nag him for NOT CARING ENOUGH. Like holy shit how fucking narcissistic do you have to be to react like that to somebody saving your life. Somebody this whiny and obnoxious dying from something totally avoidable and self-inflicted, I say good fucking riddance.

Yeah but then how would they let viewers know that DONALD DRUMPF IS RACIST NAZI
WE'RE SO DUMMMMMB

Has a show ever gone from 0 to 100 to jumping the shark so quickly? It's like a parody gone wrong.

The Walking dead tanked in it's second season as well.

Criminal Minds had a quality nosedive after agent Gideon departed which was in season 2.

Hannibal completely fell apart in the third season.

Yea it happens.

I liked season 3 of Hannibal.

You have to remember Stormfront in the comics was quite literally a Nazi made in Nazi Germany with a Swatsticka on his chest/cape. This is actually more subtle.

So glad I dropped the comic around issue 20.

Did Stormfront in the comics start fucking Homelander to control him and love him with all his heart so Homelander will he convinced to lead all white people not just supers in destroying all the other races?

I mean, he was fucking another female supe so he could create a race of ubermensch so uh, kinda? I mean, Stormfront wasn't really a major part of the comics. He was sort of there as a parody and then gets his shit pushed in by the boys (who have real super powers remember).

There's something funny about the guy not being immune to his own acid. It's almost like one of those monkey's paw type deals where sure you get a power but there's a downside.

their's quite clever inferred issue that a lot of superpowers would required a secondary power to work, like time travel requiring a sort of teleportation to ensure you arrive at earths current location or superspeed not setting you on fire. It's nice to see the issue referenced as a plot point.

I am very hopeful that Amazon is wise and doesn't allow The Boys to go on past 3 or 4 seasons as the original content wasn't that long and they are avoiding the infiltration of other Supe groups so if they go past this point, it will be utterly pointless.

I don't get Stormfront. Her origin story makes sense: Nazis experiment on a Jewish woman,* give her superpowers, some kind of Paperclip thing happens to rehabilitate Vought and she takes on a new identity. There's a lot of ways you could go with that, and ultra-paranoid supe-supremacist is one of them.

But her actions as Liberty, and the "yellow bastard" thing, and her conversation with Homelander make it seem like she's adheres to 1930s scientific racism. Which is absurd, since the experiment that created her, and the experiments that she's overseeing at the hospital, prove there is no racial or hereditary element to superhumanity. It's the drug, there's apparently one Supe-Human hybrid--and we don't know if he's fertile--and no Supe-Supe children at all. And the drug is completely egalitarian, it works on any race.

* She's supposed to be coded as Jewish, right? This show's usually pretty obvious with it's stereotypes, I'd hate to think I misread one.

She isn't supposed to be jewish. The creators thought they'd be really clever by casting an obvious Jew as a Nazi.

On everything else you are absolutely correct about how ridiculous it is but according to @Secret Asshole the show is more subtle than the comic book is where Stormfront is an actual Nazi.

Side note, it's really strange that Naxis hate blacks. Their problems were primarily with jews and then secondarily anyone who wasnt Aryan. But w/e.
