I've been meh on Gozyuger but Daizyujin with a cloak was really really fucking dank so it's got a lot of goodwill to burn through

the mech fights in gozyuger aren't cgi so thats a win in my books but so far im enjoying it. I'll see if I watch it through to the end or drop it half way like with boomboonger

I have a new fav Sentai in King-Ohger! The characters, setting & story have been amazing in the first 15 episodes.

Kamen Rider Kuuga also has been a good introduction for the first 12 episodes.

I've been on a big Ultra series kick lately. I've worked my way through Ultraman Tiga, Dyna, Gaia, and Nexus, and I just finished Neo Ultra Q.

Fun stuff. I've told Mebius is one I should definitely check out.

Of all the anniversary Tokusatsu shows in 2006 that was released (Kamen Rider's 35th/Super Sentai's 30th/Ultraman's 40th), Ultraman Mebius is the only one that I liked overall. The veteran Ultramen and their human host cameos are treated with respect and Mebius as a rookie learns what an Ultraman is all about.

I especially liked the tribute episode of Ultraman 80 where he gets to reunite with his students after 25 years. Given the fact that 80's tenure in teaching in an elementary school was ditched only after 13 episodes, there was no closure to that story arc and his students wondered why he suddenly left them.

the Showa monster being into Zubat was cute

Just finished Stronger's second cours or story arc if you will. Black Satan's second executive General Shadow is an interesting fellow. Only joined BS in order to fight someone like Stronger and constantly sabotages his fellow executive Titan's plans since Shadow can't stand the arrogant nature of the latter. After Titan's death, Shadow quits the organization and stages a coup d'etat due to realizing he's just hired help when another BS executive named Dead Lion replaces Titan. Stronger beats up Dead Lion a few times and is not seen ever again even after the former kills the Great Leader of Black Satan. The second cours overall was better than the first one.

The last cours will have the hero deal with a new faction made up of remodeled demons, the Delza Army.

I don't think I ever bothered to rewatch Stronger with subs but even with my mong nihongos I dug the fuck out of Shadow and Titan's hijinks.
iirc extended lore makes them even cooler like Titan is contained magma, ten thousand times hotter than the sun and Shadow is some rando who would have died in war like, in 1800 or so but he really loved war and killing so he just kept going or The Great Leader powered him or something I forget

I think without General Shadow, I might have given up on Stronger after 13 episodes. He has some of Titan's smug attitude too but I'd root for that guy instead since he doesn't like using underhanded tactics and has some sense of honor. I remember reading Igadevil's page years ago regarding some of Shadow's origins about being a citizen of the Demon World where the Delza Army resides and that his head and his entire body had to be covered up due to the exposed nerves from all the remodeling that's done to him through the years of fighting. I even read a copy of Stronger's manga at one point in Japan and if my memory serves me right, Shadow instantly died the moment his transparent dome that covered his head was shattered.

I'd like to give props to Hidekatsu Shibata for providing Shadow's voice, especially the way he laughs.

Sadly, Dead Lion's origins aren't that interesting compared to Titan and Shadow other than being a direct subordinate of Black Satan who was given the Satan Pendant to signify his status as Black Satan's second-in-command.

I just finished episode 26 of King-Ohger and I absolutely loved every minute of it! I especially loved Jeramie's speech at the end. I hope the new arc/second half will be just as good if not better.

One of the reasons why I love this series is that it gives me Final Fantasy 4 vibes.

I've enjoyed all of the team unlike Boonboomger series.

I liked the second-half better with our heroes trying to outsmart cosmic-level threats that make the Bugnarok look like chumps.

I'm at the halfway point of Den-O and it's really, really good. The writing is very strong and has very little filler (if they were willing to splurge on special effects this could have had the variety of Doctor Who), the suits and trains look cool, and there's lots of flashy action and pretty colours -- in other words, perfection. I don't know if I like Gun Form or Sword Form better. The ZeroLiner's flight form could have been better; it should have had wings rather than a propeller. Battling trains are very cool regardless, so I have little to complain about.
Ultraman Omega looks really cool. He's probably the best Ultra design, and the show looks interesting. It looks like a very happy show like Cosmos, so I look forward to that.

Been getting into the Ultraman card game. The material quality is STELLAR for a card game. The cardstock is nice and thick, they're the same size as Pokémon, and the back of the cards has a texture printed onto them in a swirly pattern, that you only really see when it reflects light. Whenever you get holographic ones, those are also textured. Japanese and English versions have different art for the rarer cards, with the Japanese ones being released as alternate art for the English version fairly regularly. Both have some nice art. There are 10 rarities, the lowest 2 are often pretty weak photos of the suits, but there are occasionally some really nice ones even for low rarity.

Far as gameplay goes, the game is fast paced, but built to make OTKs impossible. The goal is to have 3 of your characters win a fight in 1 round. You only add one character per round (mandatory), and you may upgrade everyone you have, including the one you just placed once each. My only complaint for the gameplay is that there doesn't seem to be all that much variety in the possible strategies yet, since its only on booster 3.

Two nitpicks I can think from Den-O right now is that the main villain was introduced so late in the series and that Den-O's final form is a let-down in terms of power despite Ryotaro doing most of the fighting by himself (to be fair, Ryotaro isn't a fighter in the first place) compared to Climax Form.

Overall, I liked Den-O and Ryotaro's growth from someone who runs away at the first sight of danger to
walking towards and talking back at the main villain who's threatening Ryutaros for failing to accomplish the latter's mission of dealing with the main hero.

Sp a 22-page comic is coming out on August 27th, the day before "National Power Rangers Day" (sigh), and it's about Haim Saban's life and how he was "The Visionary Behind Power Rangers".

I hope people go around forcibly removing copies of this comic from peoples' hands and like, replace them with copies of the Gorenger manga or something like that instead.

"The Visionary Behind Power Rangers" is too much of a stretch, isn't it? If Super Sentai never existed, can Haim actually make a Super Sentai-like show in the first place?

Also, I don't think that Power Rangers as a whole is still strong right now with the lack of new shows and merch unlike the early 90's when boys can't get enough of it.

I wonder if this is related to Blue Water productions, they did a bunch of bios of people and would get weird licenses like the Logans Run book
but tbh he really did bust his ass for a long time to get sentai over in the USA after seeing Bioman over af in France

not-quite-related but it would have been cool if that Silver Surfer toku had worked out

Reminds me of the Power Rangers episode of The Toys That Made Us which only skimmed over Kamen Rider and Super Sentai and was so lazy, they used fansubs for their footage.
