Recently watched Chōjin Sentai Jetman and
thanks to the lolcows in fiction thread, I discovered Gridman and enjoyed it.

The original Gridman is a really cute show. The kids all feel like kids. The 90s internet stuff is really quaint. Takeshi is just the absolute best sperg ever. And I just really like the aesthetic of the fights. Great soundtrack too.

I do have the mecha in question, along with all the other Reiwa mecha to date. My true love in any given Sentai is the mecha. That said, I will probably be skipping Gozyuger since the mecha seems to be to encourage roll-play for little kids and the main mecha suffers in quality for it. I'm not opposed to picking it up later if newer toys end up making the whole thing much cooler.

I've only been buying stuff where I both enjoy the show and designs. While I like Gozyuger so far, not sold on their toys, especially since the mechs and changers are one in the same. Bandai has routinely been doing 'Memorial' editions for changers which are adult size anyway. And the glove changer is so obviously kid-size.

SMPs of mechs do those designs great justice and give them much needed pose ability. However, I've never been a big fun of gunpla or any model kits. Last mech toy I thought was really great was Onitaijin but Bandai made it too big and expensive. It's follow up in Kingohger was smaller but with all kinds of problems (namely standing up). So now we're stuck with bricks for the forseeable future.

With tokusatsu, you can really see the effort the crew puts into the effects. Yeah, CGI is still used frequently in modern shows, but filming and special effects techniques that have been used since at least the 70s like miniatures or filming most of the fight scenes at the quarry are still used to this day.

Thanks to being the brain child of Eiji Tsubaraya, Ultraman has always pushed when it comes to film making, far more than Toei ever has. Just compare how Tiga looks compared to Megaranger as both were airing simultaneously.



And now that Ultra shows have about half the episode length, it seems like production have more wiggle room than any Toei productions.

The agreement is that Hasbro (who inherited the agreement that Saban got back in 1994 when they renewed for Kakuranger footage) gets total control over all the areas that are green and red. Whereas Toei can only control the blue areas. Bandai also only retains the license as well for toys in the blue areas after selling the western toy rights. Hasbro can also pick and choose whatever Sentai they want which I believe happened when Saban took over in the 2010s. Saban used to only have rights to whatever Sentai they adapted and couldn't use pre-Zyu teams for example.

Not really. It was more about the Noto than the Donbrothers themselves. Also, they did most of the Donbrothers dirty (especially Kiji and Jiro).

I didn't bring up Entwistle because I thought his project was still happening, I brought him up because projects get announced all the time that ended up not materializing.

Entwistle has been busy since 2021 filming some Apple show no one watched, then some other TV show and last year he was filming Karate Kid. It didn't get canned last year, it got canned at least 4 yeara ago.

Until that ends up streaming on Disney+ it might as well not exist.

For real, the issues I had with the series are similar to what other people complained about. I'm surprised Reddit doesn't have that same love for King Ohger with Rita the Purple Pronoun Ranger.

As far as I know, it was just wishful pyschotic thinking on twitter and reddit since she is probably the least "girly", both in outfit and personality, of any female Sentai to date. There are official interviews and episode descriptions that all refer to her as a girl with female pronouns. Japanese article here.

r/kamenrider and r/supersentai subreddits (reddit too in general) are populated with immature adults chasing popularity points and will ban/massively downvote anyone with a different opinion. Literally in every sentai team with two female rangers you have one who is the girly one and one who is the athletic/tomboyish one. American fans are just retarded.
