Things I would personally want:
- No bullet spread
- Some custom maps (for example: koth_touhvest)
- RTV and map nominating (!rtv/!nominate) functionality

Things I am very against:
- removing random crits
- sounds, trails and custom skins

Let's just keep it cool and keep it close to the original tf2's casual mode. Fuck the bullet spread tho.

A TF2 server related to the farms needs a way to stop the trannies from fucking with the server from the networking side at the top of that list. Valve's SDR solves it partially, as it's a kind of VPN. Clients don't know the server's actual IP address, they also shouldn't have any way to determine other clients' IP addresses this way. Servers launched with the -enablefakeip flag will get a fake IP to advertise. You can even host a server from your own computer this way, no fuckery with ports blocked by the ISP and a degree of anonymity.

I'm not sure if starting a server this way means clients can only join via SDR. If they can join via your raw IP, you'd need additionally paranoid firewall settings to mitigate this.

past this i mostly agree with what jerry has written up here, but also have an sv_pure that allows client-side reskins and maybe add a simple anti-cheat plugin, and it should be more than enough in terms of gameplay, don't think it needs to be mentioned that another priority of the kiwi server is the freedom of speech part of it.

for the players there's two questions instead:

1. which part of the world will the servers be based on and how do you plan server activity?
2. how do you intend to advertise the server to kiwis and non-kiwis?

the main issue is that community-centric servers akin to castaway or konata is that they both have an inconsistent playerbase (konata is unable to go above the 10 players sadly), add that the players in these servers won't play in this one because we kiwis are a bit unpopular in tf2g, ends up to randoms that *might* stumble on this server, and optimistically speaking the type of randoms that want to play the game and not shit it up by behaving like the usual suspects.

I will kindly ask null to feature it on the 'farms or MATI since he is a TF2 fan. He could also shill it on fridays so it has one night of peak activity (maybe call it tf2 night or something)

Also habbo hotel, mario_kart, highertower and 2fort are 100% getting in the map rotation

edit: hitler's jewfort was an australian server running a modified 24/7 2fort map. if i have my lore right it was owned by Eric Vaughn aka sigvatr who used donation money for meth

at one point one regular user Mad Sweaty faked leukemia and was suicide baiting. a surprise care package was sent, hundreds of dollars worth of donated funcopops and lootbox type garbage turned up at his parents house and they wanted to know why.

Peach then sold all the stuff and used the returned funds to travel overseas and fuck one of the admins/a crackhead and got addicted to meth.

anyways, a tc_hydro remake would be great but nobody but me likes tc_hydro and i ran a 24/7 tc_hydro server for 3 months and 5 people joined the whole time it was up

A kiwi server would need a good map rotation. I personnaly think mixing popular gamemodes with niche ones would be a good thing. Also, rd_asteroids is a must have.

It's not to protect the users, it's to protect your server box. If somebody will get an urge to DDoS it, what they'll be hitting first is Valve's infrastructure. There are TF2-specific ways of downing a server, but this at least protects from the dumbest ones. Cloudflare's actually affordable options only protect HTTP traffic, so SDR is your best bet.

The server keeps rejecting my connection it says "port 22: Connection refused" Can anyone help me out with this?
I'm using contabo as a VPS provider btw

more time to think then, you could try and make a strawpoll for the settings that people in here want, or could try to make a draft of the map rotation/list you're going to use in the server, so you can gauge out some more opinions/requests about the picks in the while.

I would probably try to copy what Kogasatopia has done, minus the drama and inside management faggotry.
Some of the Touhou themed maps they have are based on an existing one, but they usually have pretty interesting changes (+sovl). I would add some of them, but if you would prefer to avoid the 2hu shit, then finding someone that can do hammer to reskin them could be an option.
There is also an added point of making faggots illegal for the most part. It is truly way more digestible to see a guy spam nigger 100 times in chat than non-stop tranny posting. The only problem is a lot of the people who seem to consistently fill community servers fit that category, so it's a very fine balance with banishing them past a certain low threshold.
In short, look at what the Kogasatopia server has done and subtract the mistakes they've done over time.

The classic unofficial maps have no reason to be so dead. Last summer they added Venice to official rotation and it had shit cubemaps and areas that lowered the framerate to 30. It's not like gaben approved maps are special anymore.
