Ed Greenwood is a creepy sex pervert who's done stuff like this since 60s. This is all charted territory in the RPG world. The only difference is today the weirdos get to hide behind social justice instead of being honest about their degeneracy.

It was the second RPG ever published after D&D, originally released in 1975, with a second edition in 1979 and a third one in 1990.

The setting was the Wild West, but few bought into the game and those who did usually just used it to put guns in their D&D games. Hell, even the Dungeon Master's Guide for AD&D 1E even has a guideline for converting Boot Hill's firearms rules to AD&D. That's how common of a house rule this was.

I'd like to buy Boot Hill 2E (or a retro-clone thereof) if the price is reasonable.

I played it 20 or so years ago. It's fun but there is no leveling system and your characters can be killed in one shot.
 
I got some interesting news for everyone on this thread. I'll be having a meeting with the scout master for my game design merit badge this friday and I'll be discussing my lesson plan for the scouts, developing a 2nd draft of the adventures for the scouts to run through to add more detail and what content to add to show the scouts the history of gaming. The third and final draft will be set up so it takes the make up of the party and the scout's wishes into consideration
 
Question from other DMs: How to get rid of this toxic players?

I explain: In my game, there's this players who doesn't stop thinking in power gaming for his character. Even other people gets annoyed. I also have a house rule where you get a 1 in a skill and it's a critical failure.

So, they encountered a group of skeleton and a champion squeleton. At the beginning, said player told me they couldn't do anything to them , whining. He is a goblin rogue that specialize in stealth but have weapon will only slashing. My husband said, sneering, that he shouldn't be whining. He is based poison and only has a sarbacan. Said toxic player shut the fuck up.

Later, he has a 1 in climbing the roof of the church. Since it's raining, he slips and roll an acrobating to minimize the damage he gets from falling which he succeced. He had only twelve damage so it's okay.

But for him no. He waits for his turn, double def while the oracle is fighting to say '' HEAL ME '' . But the oracle is much more hurt then him and ignore him, prefering to shot the squeleton instead. When he realised this, he snarl : Why don't you heal me? and runs the fuck out, leaving the party to fend for itself.

I'm like okay then. I continue the encounter. Toxic player keeps muterring that now, he can't do anything but sleeping because of his damage. At the end, everyone retreats, unable de defeat the champion. I calculate the number of exp they gains and when I say it, toxic player whines that this not enough. He will never come back to the churche because of this. I heard a '' What the fuck is wrong with you? '' and the game is then over.

I just don't know what to do. I would have kick him out before.Problem is, if I kick him, there is a chance another player can't come to the game because of this. And he likes the game. Tonight, we meet up again. I'm not someone who likes conflict. I just want everyone to have fun. There already is a player that left because of him.

Any solution?

Talk to him like an adult. Tell him his behavior is annoying and obnoxious. If he keeps it up, kick him and recruit back the guy who left because of him.

I was actually discussing this not too long ago. The main thing would be to punish the player for his behavior in ways that make sense (as dumb and common sense as that sounds). For instance when he runs out, have him set off a trap or encounter something else that will fuck him up whilst the party is occupied. I dunno but I hope this helps.

This. You are God. If he angers you, punish him biblically
 
I always give some exp in the end game for role playing. Maybe I should penalize him for his behavior? I'm changing his alignment [ which I should anyway since he plays as chaotic good but act like a neutral evil ]. About traps, I fear he likes this because in Pathfinder, traps gives exp. Maybe an encounters is better in a sense that if you don't defeat your opponents, you don't have anything.

I'll talk to the other player that takes the car with the toxic player to see if he will stay anyway at the game without said problematic player. I don't want to lose him because I kick the other.

Unfortunately, I don’t think an ax to bonus experience will deter a player who is like that. You have to make them realize that their actions have sometimes dire consequences, and if they don’t realize, they die.
 
He's not a puppy you can rub his nose in in reguards to his mistakes, Discuss it with the group (Minus Asshole) to see if they would prefer if they found someone to replace him, and if they want to ride it out a bit longer, let them know that option is always on the table
 
So, I feel bad but sastified:

I made him cry. I stated the facts, talked to him like an adult but he still was very toxic in my game by wanting to play with his rules and being an ass to everyone. Result are: Another player taunted some creature to attack them, he woke up everyone except toxic players and they all fled in the woods. They were sleeping in a cavern so when toxic player woke up, he was alone with a hord of skeleton.

He died. He wanted to do another character sheet but I stop him there and told him to wait at the end of the game. When I annonced that he is kicked out because of the many reasons I did discuss with him and he didn't even try to chance, he left crying. Didn't even bother to wait for the other player to lift him back home. I hope he'll grow up soon.
 
@Magique The only thing that seems off is calling him a power gamer when he plays a goblin rogue. Rogues are pretty shit in PF(They got nerfed pretty heavily from 3.5, and they weren't even amazing in that). That's why they made the Unchained version later on, and even then it's not going to win any contests.

I don't know, I've seen some Munchkin rogues in Pathfinder and they are far from shit when compared to 3.5. At least in Pathfinder they don't have sit out a lot of fights (Undead for instance which get heavily used).

Paizo themselves basically admitted the rogue was severely under powered when it one of the few classes where the Unchained version was a direct upgrade in every way, rather than simply trying to be somewhat different with some give and take.

Yes, when compared to newer classes that came out, such as with the Advanced Players Guide.

Also, I can see why the guy wanted to play as a goblin rogue since at level one before you add your first rank to Stealth you start off with +8 (+4 Sneaky Rider, +4 Size), then you also get that +4 Dexterity. It's better than a Halfling rogue.
 
Any class can seem powerful with the right feats, skills, and spells(where applicable), the actually good classes can usually take those options and do it even better than the supposed specialists(since PF still has the same problem 3.X had of Linear Fighters, Quadratic Wizards, they just gave the non-casters more choice-based class features to give the illusion that is is any more balanced between the two groups, when it pretty much has the same type of balance problems, just being better in some areas but in return worse in others)

I like the d20 system overall, but I'm not going to pretend that it's balanced in any way between the different classes.

Lol good. If that was their reaction then that lends credibility to them acting like a shithead.
