Dark Sun was the coolest AD&D setting.
What are you talking about? Spelljammer Campaign Setting is the best official D&D setting ever. It's so stupid, but in a good way. Auto-gnomes, giant space hamsters, griffs, ect.
Dark Sun was the coolest AD&D setting.
I liked some of the genera settings for 2e, like Al-Quadem, which was basically Arabian Nights D&D edition. I think you could make a really great campaign based around an approaching horde of fantasy mongols that the PCs need to stop before they overrun and sack everything.I don't know much about Dark Sun, but I might check it out.
I did like the Historical Reference setting books that TSR released for AD&D 2E back in the mid-90's. The books were presented as pure historical primarily, with options for Low Fantasy historical games.
They were all green hardcovers and you had settings for Vikings, Celts, the Roman Empire, Classical Greece, the Crusades, Charlemagne, and I think there was even a book for Elizabethan England. My dad owned the books for the Celts and Vikings and gave them to me, and I later purchased the Roman one off of Amazon.
The only setting I truly dislike is Forgotten Realms, simply because of how over-exposed it is.
I'm still looking for four players. Fridays or Saturday is best for me.
I know :late:, but were you still looking for players?
Anybody here a fan of Big Eyes Small Mouth? It's an old RPG (sadly it's out of print, but PDF's and old copies can easily be found online) that is anime-themed, but also multi-genre, as it focuses on multiple anime genres, making for a great rules-light generic system. Sort of like GURPS Lite for weebs, only better.
I own the First Edition of Big Eyes Small Mouth on hard copy (it's my favorite edition) and I even own a hard copy of the Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book by the same company, a licensed game which uses the exact same system as BESM 1E.
During the run of BESM 1E, there were a lot of licensed RPG's for the system that were based on 90's anime, most notably Sailor Moon. Tenchi Muyo and New Dominion Tank Police also got adaptations and I think there was even one for Demon City Shinjuku, if I remember correctly.
2E was also good and had a lot of material as well, mostly genre guides instead of licensed RPG's and even a superhero-themed version of BESM called Silver Age Sentinels.
3E was decent, although extremely short-lived (it didn't even get any supplementary material), released just as Guardians of Order was falling apart. White Wolf had to finish the distribution of the 3E corebook, though afterwards they ceased support for BESM for reasons that are still unclear to this day.
I highly recommend that folks join in our funtime antics.I've been running an experimental Pathfinder game with @Randall Fragg , @Adamska , @Dunsparce , and others.
It literally is everything lolrandom. Everything is randomly generated: races, classes, dungeon and all encounters, and even the treasure, all using various generators on the internet. As one who normally values deep world building and interesting settings, this method is somehow... working. I give credit to the players in hammering through it.
It's been great seeing one set of random treasure consisting of several bottles of vinegar, a bag of iron nails, a pavilion tent, a wand of mount, and an 80 lb wheel of cheese, the latter of which the party half-orc ate, forcing a roll for extreme constipation.
I'm thinking of expanding this experiment, getting more players. If anyone's interested in a game for Thursday or Saturday evenings, let me know. Must be willing to forgo deep character concepts until after the generation.
I would, but my time's not exactly flexible when it comes to games, I'm in two already and I need to keep one slot free because that's when a different game will happen ''eventually''.
I'm hoping some more people will be interested in the CoC game again and just do it on Discord.
It'd need to be, PbP's on KF seem to die like starved Eritrean children.
I'll still be up for it when it happens though, I still have my sheet around somewhere.
