Everyone’s talking about Pirahna Plant and how the leak was fake, and here I am dreaming of Vivi from FFIX somehow coming to the game.

This Update was great, not for the characters, fluff or whatever else it revealed, but just because a plant got into smash before anyone's underage waifu or edgy sonic character
No it isn't. To be honest I've have never seen a developer so utterly throw his middle finger up at his own fanbase like this:

Outright deconfim wanted characters as assist trophies (Shadow, Isaac, Black Knight)
Show others as "spirits" (Shantae)
Show another as a freaking Mii costum (Ray Mk. III)
Show Spirits mode as not being Sub-space emissary and spend almost 20 MINUTES talking about it, while showing the most boring gameplay ever.
Show a GODDAMN PIRANHA plant as a playable character as a bitch slap to EVERY PERSON who wanted a character in the game.

I leave you to answer the question of whether or not Sakurai went too far with his trolling this time. As for me, I ain't buying a Switch for this.
Lol, anyone who says "I won't buy this now" was never a customer to begin with, take your guilt tripping salty shit home and water your plants, before they take over and kick your ass

I'm honestly surprised by how viable the Piranha Plant seems. Like, it's clearly had thought put into it, and it's been balanced to be this long-ranged glass cannon-type character. I'm excited to main it!

If I could share an autistic observation with you guys for a minute, it would be this:

Okay, here's plain ol' Piranha Plant.

And here are all of Piranha Plant's alternate costumes in the game...except for the fact that four out of seven of them are actually slightly different models from the default. You see, the default palette is the red plant in the brown pot, which, if you notice, is slightly slanted and has a small crevice on the bottom. Half of the other color schemes, meanwhile, are actually carried in what look like miniature pipes as opposed to pots, which lack both the slant and crevice.

It's tiny details like this that make me really appreciate the fuckton of love poured into this game.

Nope, Ridley and Dark Samus got in, and that's all I wanted.

Do you even pay attention?
He's a bit of a sped so no, he generally doesn't. I don't know if he's even watched any of the videos or been to the Smash site.

im pretty disappointed that springman became an assist trophy, i was hoping he would become playable :(
Probably because ARMS is too new. The Inklings weren't in the first game either for the same reason. Nintendo is mainly interested in using characters from franchises that have been consistently big or ones they hope to revive. The third option being classic characters Nintendo views as important.

Also worth nothing that Pink seems to have a different head shape, yellow's leaves are shorter, and only green and blue have the dry yellow on their leaves.

Well, the pic comes from

this video at around the 0:55 mark, and aside from the vessels they're in the plants all look identical. Sure, some of them have differently colored leaves, but that's all they differ in—color.

Sorry, am retarded. Didn't think the parts of a cartoon character would squash and stretch (one of the fundamental principles of animation) for some reason.

The people behind the Grinch Leak have stepped forth about how they went about everything. Best use of your job ever!

On the topic of Piranha Plant being odd due to it being a stationary enemy in its original series, this isn't the first time they've been mobile while in a pot or pipe. The Mario and Luigi series did that first as seen here.

The extension attack it uses also might be a subtle nod to the sprite, but it's a stretch.

That's actually pretty interesting, now I'm wondering if MTP was in on it from the beginning...

EDIT: Wait a minute... M... T... P.... Fuck, he WAS responsible for the hoax. I tip my hat to that Ontarian chucklefuck.

Not to burst your bubble but.. Look at the model. The character appears in brown dirt, like a plant, or out of a pipe. They had to really drain their brains to figure a way out of making reasonable alternate costumes. That 'act of love' took someone half a day.

I'm saying I dig the change because it's subtle, not in spite of being subtle.

Is it the most mind-blowing alternate costume out there? Obviously not. But that won't stop me from thinking it's a neat little touch I spotted while watching footage of the game that I probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

I don't care about Smash Brothers

The salt with people believing the fake leak is better entertainment than playing a video game.
