Honestly, looking back on the leaks it really didn't seem possible. There's no way Chorus Kids could be a thing, and Banjo, Isaac and Geno are from old, dead franchises. Shadow was a possibility to me, though.

The whining I've been seeing is mostly from Incineroar's design (some compare it to a fursuit) and due to Decidueye not getting in but AFAIK that part would've been iffy due to its inclusion in Pokken.

And on the part of of the characters from the Grinch hoax Geno and Banjo supposedly had some support in the Smash 4 Ballot from both Japanese and international users (with the latter even getting support from Phil Spencer and a supposed meeting between him and Sakurai occuring at E3), and Rhythm Heaven has an unused icon in Smash 4. The only one that's a mystery to me is Isaac.

I still have to preorder the game, but I might go with physical (hopefully the Pro Controller bundle, but I doubt I can find it now due to scalpers) due to Best Buy offering a coin as a preorder bonus. Heck, I might just do what I did for Super Mario Odyssey and preorder from both stores and return the second copy (or save it for a last-minute Christmas gift).
 
I love that the general reaction to Piranha Plant was stunned silence, followed by “WHAT”, followed by laughing their asses off.

If you want a good, wholesome, and very nice read after all the shit Smash Ultimate has been getting, check this twitter thread about how dedicated fans got K. Rool in the game and their extreme gratitude. I'm glad to have been a part of this.

I see you too have the weakness of "Put one dumb thing to get someone remotely interested" business strategy. Worked with me for so many games and I'm glad I got to experience them over a dumb mechanic/feature.

kind of. I'm a sucker for creatively interesting things when it comes to media i consume. I prefer experiences I decide to go through with to have some tang and spice, rather than be bland run of the mill boring shit. It's largely why I skip certain entries in certain franchises. Its also why I don't buy any racing or sports games.

We are almost certainly not getting Waluigi, Shadow, Skull Kid, Sable Prince, Isaac, etc. as playable fighters, unfortunately. The one thing that they have continued to remain consistent on is that they wouldn't remove an assist trophy to make them playable, and there is no indication whatsoever that they are reneging on that, so confirming them as assist trophies essentially means they won't be playable, and I doubt they will remove an assist trophy just to sell it as DLC. We might still get Geno though.

Not sure about Waluigi since he's an assist trophy, but I wouldn't mind him as DLC.

I don't get the obsession some people have with him, but in the end all they want is one of their favorite characters to become a fighter. I'm not seeing much difference between them and the guys who wanted Ridley or King K. Rool (then again, I haven't delved too deeply into the shitstorm surrounding him), so I don't see why they shouldn't get a bone thrown to them.

I'm pretty certain that assist trophies don't become playable characters.

Dark Samus was one as well. But to be fair they are they exception, not the norm. They actually have enough personality and attacks for a viable movepool. But Waluigi has only been in the spinoff titles, never in any of the major games. Wario probably would've still only been represented in one of Mario's alt colors and maybe as an assist trophy if he didn't have his own game series to build a movepool from. Daisy's just really lucky there's someone she can be an echo of, but Waluigi doesn't really have that option since all echos thus far are very close in size and shape to their counterparts
