It was exactly the kind of dumb schlock it wanted to be and was meant to be.
Dumb and entertaining still doesn't = good. There's dumb stupid movies that I love but I would never say as a movie they're good. Most games won't ever translate well into movies because most games have big dumb stories and the ones that aren't are too big to fit into a movie to do it justice. The blocks and bricks in the original Super Mario Bros. story were mushroom people. How would that fit well into a movie other than a dumb one? An entertainingly dumb one sure but I don't see how you could make a genuinely good movie out of that.

I wonder why they don't use a model for Peach similar to her Smash model in the rest of the games, i mean, like you said, look at this

The difference is night and day

SSB Peach looks way better than any other version of Peach
I've thought about this for the longest time, and think there's a number of factors that could explain this:

1) The Mario platforming games and sport spin offs are geared towards all ages so they use more cartoonishy and innocent models. The Smash games are rated T so they can get away with a more "mature" looking Peach.

2) Making Peach more womanly would make Mario look even more like a dwarf. This is a non-issue in Smash because its a big mishmash of different styles and body types ranging from cartoonishy to semi-realistic to extremely animu.

3) Sakurai wants you to look inside Peach's dress (even though he denies it), Miyamoto doesn't.

Mortal Kombat 1 and Castlevania are the only decent video game adaptations. We must crack this formula.
Part of the reason Castlevania is so good is because Warren Ellis sat on the idea for years. Ellis was supposed to write the script for a Castlevania adaptation a decade ago. Also because Adi Shankar (same producer from the gritty Power Rangers YT video what was actually good) is a bona fide rabid fanboy who wanted to do the franchise justice.

Most studios/producers/directors/writers would only see a videogame franchise as a cash grab and put only the absolute minimum effort on it.

Yeah it's not the greatest of kung fu movies but it was a decent enough kung fu movie to be an acceptable movie of Mortal Kombat
with Toru Furuya as Mario

I’m so glad Pauline is being brought back as a cast member. She’s an important part of the Mario Legacy. Part of me wonders if she was brought back as a mayor to combat feminist criticism towards the series? Probably not but it sure is something.

I'd say it's a bit of 1 and 3, probably Nintendo wouldn't like a more "anime-looking" Peach in the main games, too sexy for an E rating, that's probably what they say

Man i loved that OVA, i downloaded years ago from a thread on /vr/, i know it looks weird even by Mario standards nowadays, since it was made just after the first game, so it has a lot of made up stuff, but hey, having Luigi with the same personality as Wario? i can't say no to that

WHO IS THE GREATEST MARIO CHARACTER AND WHY IS IT WARIO

Wario has the best spinoffs as well as being a better character all round than Mario, this fat ugly jew is the fucking man.

This movie is mystifyingly bad. Do we know why Daisy is in the film but not Peach?
My guess would be because Peach was not called Peach in the west before the movie was released, and then it wasn't widely known or used again until Super Mario 64. She was still officially known as Princess Toadstool, which wouldn't work well in the movie. But Super Mario Land did provide the name of a princess that did have a suitable name, and was theorized by some to be the same character as Princess Toadstool (until Mario Tennis revealed them to be two separate characters in the west.

Super Mario 64 is the greatest video game of all time.

Which 3D Mario game did you grow up playing the most? For me it was Sunshine but I've never beaten the game. I get so far and then get sick of all the BS missions and stop playing after about three hours.

I feel like the watergun was more a detriment than anything else, to sunshine's gameplay.
The small missions where you dont have it, used to give me this impression.
