There are two likely explanations. Either you had a round chambered, pulled the mag, but forgot to rack the slide and clear the chamber. Or, you racked first to check for an empty chamber, then you took the mag out, not realizing that you had just chambered a round because of mixing the order up.

While these are really solid explanations and probably the correct answers, allow me to wildly speculate anyway.

Unless I'm misreading, since he didn't shoot anyone, it's a year max/$1,000 fine. Not sure about Rutland judges or prosecutor, but I think 3 months would be on the high end for a charge like this, unless of course there were other facts we don't know about. Probably 30 days if any time at all, and/or half of the max fine. Not exactly an off yourself kind of offense.

Has anyone in the thread bothered to look up any of the charges? I could see Sam exaggerating and trying to make a DV claim to escalate the charge. I mean she literally did that here, where she said it was him negligently discharging at her, or something.
