I've been writing some of my thoughts on this in the Furry Fandom/Drama General thread here on the farms as they've come up, but now that there's a dedicated thread for Star Fox on here I'm going to take a moment to vent my feelings on this. It feels like I've been on the verge of a Spoony-tier emotional collapse ever since Fox McCloud was revealed in the Mario Galaxy movie, and since the anouncement of this new game it's gotten even worse. Fortunately, it feels like I'm beginning to reach the acceptance stage at this point, but all the same I wish Nintendo would've just let Star Fox stay dead because what they're doing with it now is so much worse than anything I could've ever imagined. I fucking love Star Fox (and this will sound extremely autistic) but I've spent years of my life coming up with headcanons and fleshing out the world of this franchise in my spare time for a potential fanfiction I'll probably never write, and it's very disheartening to know that I've put more thought and effort into Star Fox than Nintendo themselves have ever desired to in the 30+ years the franchise has existed for. If there's any silver lining to this however, it's that I've become more motivated to finally start working on that fanfiction I was talking about. If anyone here is interested in my Star Fox AU, I'd be more than happy to share some of my ideas either here or maybe on some other site where it may be more appropriate.

distinction without a difference
There's a pretty clear divide between the two. Sonic's original design was the result of wanting to make the character more realistic to the point where he has human teeth. That goes way beyond making characters that are already animals more animalistic.

I understand why some people aren't vibing with the redesigns, but the reaction to ugly Sonic was negative across the board, not merely divisive.

Personally I don't really care, the only redesign that outright bothers me is Kat because yeah they made her look like a wasteland meth whore, but she's also from Pollution Planet so it makes some level of sense. I just hope that the gameplay is good, the voice acting doesn't detract, and the cutscenes aren't wasted effort.

But then again I'm also never buying it unless they port it to the PC because I refuse to buy a Nintendo console.

they all look like they follow that creepy, unappealing "semi-realistic" style that corpo fatcats tend to like for some reason, splitting hairs be damned

unless they port it to the PC
come on dude, this is nintendo we're talking about

I know, but hope springs eternal. And this attitude of mine isn't unique to Nintendo, before anyone here thinks that it is. I hate exclusive licenses for any form of media because it's essentially Tying and Bundling fraud. There are a good number of Nintendo titles that I would pay some amount of money for, but they typically overcharge for the game and expect me to pay an extra few hundred dollars for the console.

I’m excited for this. Honestly I wish the characters looked different, but ultimately whatever they’re space animals. I don’t mind it being a remake of 64, but I do hope they take advantage of the format it’s in and have more alt paths. If it is just a 1:1 remake so be it I’m excited still. It would be nice if they have new paths if not new planets added in.

The online play has potential to be great esp with the mouse controls. I’m sure many starfox fans would like to see this do well and we end up with a real sequel. Now I have looked a bit more at the switch2 because this is the first game that has made me want one and oh boy the switch2 isn’t offering much. Maybe I can rent a switch2 and just play the game that way.

How many rail shooters are out there right now? I don't think it's that many, but then, I buy maybe one new video game a year.
Unit Down Charge
Wild Blue Skies (Upcoming)
Fur Squadron Phoenix
Ex-Zodiac (Early access development hell. One of the first "big" Godot games. I vaguely remember the characters originally being anime girls instead of animals but I may be mistaken.)
Whisker Squadron: Survivor (Made by the guy who made "Race the Sun" (Now trooned out))

Are any of these not furbait?

Why do people feel the need to make cartoon characters realistic? It comes off creepy as all hell.
Because there's an entire subset of people who believe that anything animated is solely for children.
I mean Star Fox 64 got recently completely decompiled and ported onto the pc by fans, so people can just play that instead.
Even after more than two decades of working at it, N64 emulation is still in such a terrible place that it's easier to bypass it all together and make them native applications.

Keep in mind, Sonic fans don't have the same slavish, sycophantic behaviour towards Sega that fans of any Nintendo IP have towards the company.

In addition to what Coolio listed, there's also Star Fox: Event Horizon.

Still have both NTSC and JP StarFox 64 and til this date are very enjoyable that any of the newest Starfox gen games.

Perhaps i don't find appealing next gen games based on the same franchise but yeee, Better than whatever this is.

I don't think it's directly comparable. It's kind of the opposite problem. Original movie Sonic looked terrible because he was uncannily human-looking. These new Star Fox designs look goofy because their anatomy is overly close to the real animal they're based on, leading to weird postures and inexpressive faces.
Still falls under "ugly 3d for a character that already has good 3d representation".

but she's also from Pollution Planet so it makes some level of sense.
Seen this before, and it sounds like cope to me. As far as we know, all the mammal races in Star Fox seem to be originally from Corneria, and Zoness is a vacation planet that was probably colonized. Obviously people could live full time on Zoness and have families, but we don't actually have further information to go off of as to where Katt is from. All we know is she hung out with Falco in a gang years ago. As far as we know, she could have only showed up on Zoness to fight Falco, not because she's from around there. And probably most importantly, the pollution on Zoness only started very recently as Andross set up a base on the planet and started polluting the area. The idea that Katt looks fucked up because she lived in the polluted area makes no sense timescale-wise, and Falco would say something if she suddently looked diseased due to pollution from the past few months that wouldn't have affected her previously.
