And my main takeaway is that Barracuda is one of the most unintentionally racist depictions of a nigga I have ever seen, violent, hypersexual, amoral murdering rapist with gaudy gold teeth who will do anything for a dollar. It's almost comedic. Funnily enough he's not transphobic

I mean seriously look at this bullshit
I'd say the start of that issue where he and Fifty are in the car together after Fifty gets picked up from the airport and they're just laughing and having fun would illustrate the point better.

Though it wouldn't surprise me, that miniseries also confirmed that 'Cuda was into prison bitches. He's a fan of cock.

'Cuda also prison-fucked a Trump pastiche.

And this is when Trump was just a famous rich guy and TV personality.

Over at Marvel, Christopher Priest is having some fun with BP

So I've been reading Sandman which is actually quite good. At least it was until what I believe was issue 32 to 37 or so when the plot starts revolving around Barbie, her gay friends and her transgender best friend. I thought this stuff wasn't allowed until like the 2010s so it came as a little bit of a shock to me. Regardless of that I found the whole thing to be kind of boring and disconnected from the rest of the series seeing that it has almost nothing to do with dream. For kiwis out there who've read is this the start of a drop in quality in the series or does it get better again?

I've decided I want to read some good Mystique books. I don't know much about the character aside from the cartoon and movies, what's the best jumping off point?

What are your thoughts on the new Ultimate Universe ending?
I've been reading the stuff from the two new universes since the beginning because I thought it could be a good way to get back into the hobby. Some of the books started out pretty strong, at least IMO (Ultimate Spidey and The Ultimates had really solid first arcs) while others were either kinda bad or just serviceable. It's been two years since it all started, and I’ve gotta say, it doesn’t really feel like the plot has progressed enough to justify this big “Endgame” event.

Public opinion has kinda soured on it too. It feels like the whole thing has lost all its momentum. People are giving Ultimate Spidey crap for sidelining Peter in his own comic for most of the run, Hickman just stopped giving a fuck about him after 9-10 issues. The Ultimates is alright, even though Camp just can’t help himself from inserting his liberal faggotry in every issue. Even then, it always feels like the most important stuff is happening offscreen and nothing gets developed. They met this universe's Shang Chi in issue 15, then they drop the whole thing for issue 16 and we're probably not gonna meet the guy again until the big crossover.

Ultimate X-Men never had a plan and 20+ issues in it feels like nothing has happened. Ultimate BP is just garbage with pretty looking art. Ultimate Wolverine is dogshit.

I don't think I've heard of a single person liking anything in it except for Ultimate Spider-Man.

Ultimate Wolverine started off interesting but it never really went anywhere and it just ended up feeling like a waste of time. I dropped it a while ago and never bothered with any of the others.

Ultimate Avengers feels both hilariously Warren Ellis in the mid-2000s edgy and current year wokescold at the same time. And it's doing both in such an inept way that I would almost believe you if you told me it was meant to be satire. Making nuHawkeye a DEI edgelord who also can't use the gear he's appropriating (the equipment does it for him) is so on the nose.

Every universe original character feels like this in some way, Black Panther gave us a new Ultimate Sorceror Supreme who's a woman and the bitch has done fuck all in 12+ issues. Ultimate Hawkeye is probably the worst example because if you remove the supertech he's just a faggot indian with no personality.

Admittedly I haven't read anything from it but this seems to have ended so quickly. I mean, it hasn't even been two years, right? That doesn't seem like enough time to build a readership and get people invested in the new world you're creating.

This is a big problem with comics these days, no one is willing to give books a chance to gain an audience and find their feet. Marvel used to have books come out every second month for a few years if sales were low so they'd have a chance to pick themselves back up, which gave us Frank Miller's Daredevil. These days, they'll cancel a book six issues in if the first issue didn't sell the numbers they wanted.

It just hit me. The new Ultimate saga--with its ruling class of supers opposed by a resistance movement put together by someone once connected to said rulers--is the Squadron Supreme miniseries except we're rooting for the resistance from the beginning and there aren't any DC-knockoffs this time.

Though I suppose a case could be made for the Maker being even more retarded than Shape was.

Squadron Supreme is still one of the best Justice League stories

You're not wrong, especially since the League can never really go that far without messing up the entire continuity. And the one time they tried we got Identity Crisis.

As an aside, one of my favorite moments in anything comes from JLA/Avengers, when Hawkeye first sees the League and decides they're another version of the Squadron and probably mind-controlled.

Scott Snyder has to be the worst creative force in Batman comics in decades. Nothing he does is remotely interesting with Batman mythos. It’s just a dumb what if for shock value. Absolute Batman and “The Batman Who Laughs” is fucking garbage.
