Marvel realized nobody else would ever be interested in using T-Ray again
I think Joe Kelly was trying to give Deadpool his own Sabertooth, complete with the whole "our pasts are mysteriously linked" crap, but Deadpool really didn't need it and it really didn't work. I really liked Kelly's DP run (although it seems to have become strangely divisive over the years, probably due to Kelly becoming kind of an asshole) but, yeah, T-Ray fucking sucked and deserved to be forgotten.

I like parts of it, but what bothers me is that Deadpool is still clearly a villain when I got into him as an anti-hero character. Cable and Deadpool is what got me into the character, and I was a big fan of Daniel Way's run, so that's what I have in my head when I think of Deadpool. Kelly's Deadpool is harder for me to root for because he's sticking Al in a torture chamber and when she tries to leave, he's there waiting, having murdered the guy who was going to help her.

Now don't get me wrong, I can absolutely enjoy a story about a villain protagonist. Love me some Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Deathnote and Natural Born Killers. But that's not who Deadpool is to me. Also the reveal that at the end, he stole T-Ray's identity and murdered his wife just for kicks as his backstory? Wasn't a fan. One of the few times I'm actually okay with a retcon.

Isn't IDW in financial dire straits? They can't afford their writers sperging out and scaring the investors, so they'll shut up or face the door.

At this point, shut down IDW to prove Ken’s right.
They made their bed when they hired sonic oc artists and trannies from Twitter, so now they have to sleep in it.

(Felt like this should be moved to the comics general thread)

I haven't read much Deadpool but I like the character when he comes off as a surpisingly good person at the end of the day.

I should go back and reread, but what I remember was that Wade was trying to better than he was--trying to only take non-lethal jobs at Hellhouse and not making too many changes when he and Al landed in the past. But getting sucked into Typhoid Mary's madness sent him back down a dark path (pretty sure this was when he locked both Al and Weasel in the Box) and finding out Landau, Luckman, and Lake's paradise they needed him to help usher in would end things like independent though and free will didn't help things either.

Managed to go through all that and come out the other side in at least a little better state than before. He did let Dr. Killebrew live, after all.

And now I want to see what Sluggo and the other Hellhouse mercs have been up to.

Agreed. You make a good point.

I'm enjoying some of their material but when you know the kinds of people they hire and how they're one of the most open open door publishers in the industry (disclaimer about not accepting unsolicited material printed their books my ass) suddenly a lot of their more woke material they've put out lately makes a lot more sense.

Just finished reading the Tanabe Go adaptation of The Shadow Over Innsmouth by Lovecraft and holy shit, this was such a tense story.

I did read other Tanabe Go Lovecraft manga and even other comics, but this one was the first that gripped me this hard and the comic format actually helped increasing the tension of it.

Completely recommended it

One relationship I wish we got to see more of these days is DP’s deep and intensely genuine friendship with Rogue. She really brings out the best in him, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see her pop in that DP game years back.
There was a lot more done with it in Uncanny Avengers and Uncanny Avengers.
Uh.
By that I mean the 2015 and 2023 versions, both by Duggan, who's dogshit, but handled that part well in my opinion.

Innsmouth is just a great story in the first place. Probably Lovecraft's best story

I read Batman/Deadpool and it was dreadful. I liked the GOTG and Green Lantern story, but everything else was coal. Frank Miller's dementia clearly kicked in a long time ago and Jeff the Shark is one of the worst characters in comics history and I hate him and think less of you if you like him. I was really excited for more Kevin Smith Daredevil and Green Arrow since I like his work on both characters, but god this was awful. The worst thing that ever happened to him was surviving that heart attack. If he'd died then and there, I'd fondly remember him and his work, now I can't.

The first official crossover between the two companies since Avengers/JLA. Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo are not fit to be spoken of in the same sentence as Kurt Busiek and George Perez. Except for a sentence like that. It was rushed and cramped and neither character really had a good chance to demonstrate why you should be reading their books. Even the weakest of the old 90s crossovers looks good next to this. Maybe not JLA/Predators.

Let's talk "Logo", shall we? It was almost amusing to read Wolverine's Canadianisms mashed into standard Lobo dialogue, but ... Thanoseid cameo and the mention of Super-Soldier makes this vignette Amalgam, and Lobo the Duck was much more inventive.

This made me think and frankly, I don't know if there are any good writers left these days. Scott Snyder's beloved, but incredibly overrated, Tom King is woke and obsessed with feeling sorry for himself, Grant Morrison's woke and narcissistic (and always has been, he didn't suddenly get bad, he's always sucked), Neil Gaiman's woke and a rapist (surprising how that's always the case), Deniz Camp is getting raved about rn but Absolute Martian Manhunter is pretentious slop that thinks it's smart and artistic by being nonsensical, Robert Kirkman's never written anything good outside of TWD, and Daniel Warren Johnson is woke.
